Has anybody read The Thief or any of its sequels by Megan Whalen Turner? I've only read The Thief, but it was really good. The end was really surprising. It's about a young thief named Gen who is taken from his captivity in prison to go on a quest for the king and retrieve a mysterious stone that will help the king achieve stable power over his and surrounding countries. The sequels are called The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia. I have The King of Attolia, but I don't have the second book, which makes me sad... I want that book. cry

Whoa, unexpected. O_o I read The Thief yeeeeeears ago, when I was in 7th grade I think. The vocabulary is pretty standard for the level of reading, but the storyline was great. I never knew there were sequels. o_o Are they that good? (I don't mind spoilers... They only give me more material to base my ideas on, haha)

They're good, although it certainly is a case where the first book could stand alone. I read them over a year ago, so I don't remember them particularly vividly. They're more sophisticated in terms of politics and such than the first book, although I still think the plot of the first book was better. I also remember the third book being extremely different from the other two, and Gen's really a different person starting half way through the second book. They're worth a read though, if you've got some extra time.
