It had been a few days after she had talked to her cousin Morgan and realized the truth. True, Axis was glad she still could study potions and alchemy, but knew her cousin was just trying to comfort her.

Over the period of these days, she had remained tight lipped about the matter, not telling anyone...except Viree. Somehow, Axis felt that she could confide in her brother, and so, told him her secret. And he had suggested that they go somewhere else, so that momma would know about this and be mad at her. At first, the red haired kit was rather hesitant, but as her mother told them to study diligently, she knew she couldn't upset her momma. If Ayako knew...she would be so very disappointed in her!

So they decided to go ahead with the plan.

The two of them went up to Xanul and asked him to open a portal to grandfather's library. The dark haired half Nobody agreed cheerfully, and brought them both to their destination, leaving them with a ruffle of their hair and a nuzzle, reminding them to study hard.

"Grandpapa?" Axis voiced softly, eyes darting around the room.

With so many grandkits anymore, Remus John Lupin had taken to spending more & more time in the library again so he would be available to them. It was hard, being away from his beloved mate for those times but they agreed it was worth it. Hearing a young voice call he looked up with a smile from the book he was reading, banded tails wagging as he glanced over the chairback which had hidden him to see two of his latest grandkits and the closing portal behind them. Ah... probably Xanul brought them, seeing as he rarely saw the others. Now why hadn't he stayed too?

"Here, dear ones. To what do I owe the honor?" Dark eyes sparkled bright with grandfatherly love and pride. A gesture made to welcome them into the folds of his robes and embrace and perhaps to share his book as well.

Xerviree had been very pleased that his sister trusted him enough to let him in on her secret. He had done his best to comfort her on the matter, until it got to the point where he had come up with running away to their Grandfather's.

Not quite the best place to run away to, but it had lights, it was safe, and they'd still be with family. And perhaps their grandfather would be more understanding, then what Axis believed their mother would think if she found out.

The male smiled, as their older brother droped them off, ruffling their hair before leaving. His attention then returned to his sister. As usual in his tiny paws he clutched his flashlight, which was as it always was; on. Ears flicked as Remus' voice rang out in response to his sister's.

"Granbpoop!" he said, in a rather serious, though loud tone. Gently he nudged Axis, before scammpering up to their Grandfather. "We ran away." he nodded, trying to keep that serious look and tone.

A small smile of delight flickered over her face as Remus responded, and catching sight of her grandfather, she bounded up to him, trailing behind Xerviree...and staying out of the way of where his flashlight pointed.

Ran away. The little kit shifted slightly, looking rather uncomfortable and nervous. "Well.." She stammered softly. "It's because...because..." Just thinking about it made her want to cry, and tears welled up at the side. Squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, she opened them and looked at Xerviree pleadingly. Perhaps her brother could help her explain?

The light in their grandfather's eyes flicked to worry and he pushed his book aside without even pausing to place a bookmark across the page he was reading. Gently he pulled the two kits into his embrace and nuzzled them lovingly. "What's all this about running away?" Remus asked his grandkits softly. His worry and concern evident not only in his voice but by his slipping into contractions. "You'll worry your mother greatly, you know."

They could not have been gone from Ayako too overly long, so Remus was not quite worried yet. But his daughter had been worried enough over Xanul's disappearance when he was already a full adult -how much more would she be once she discovered two kits missing? And God only knew how their father Saix would take it. Remus liked to believe his son-in-law was actually attempting to care with this batch. A thought that warmed his heart enough for both him and the heartless Nobody.

His brows lowered, a rather distressed look spead across his face as Axis stammered. Droping his flashlight Xerviree clinged to his sister, giving her a nuzzle to let her know it was ok. he was glad their grandfather was there, as he could help comfort her.

"But we had to." the little male frowned, still clinging to his sister. "Mommy would be mad if she founds out." Eyes shifted from Remus to Axis, the tips of his tails flicking slowly as he tried to figure out how to explain their problem. "Magic..." he paused, his ears drooping. "Magic, doesn't like Axis. It brobe and so now she can't use it." Yes, that sounded about right. "So we had to run away. And I had to come with Axis, 'cause she doesn't have a flashlight and then the monysters would get her." And monysters were no laughing matter.

As she was pulled into Remus's hug, the red haired kit buried her face into his comforting fur. Yes, momma would be very worried...but she would be that and much more upset if she knew! If she knew what happened to Axis...

Leaning on Xerviree slightly as he hugged her, Axis gave him a small smile. She was glad her brother was here with her. It would be very tough for her if she came here alone...she couldn't even explain what happened! "I can't use magic, grandpapa." The kit whispered softly after her brother had explained. Monsters. A tiny smile flickered on her face again, but she didn't want to argue that there weren't any monsters. After all, what mattered was that Viree cared for her.

His maw might have quipped in a smile at the notion of monysters that his grandson had if the seriousness of what was being told him had not hit Remus so fully. How he remembered the first day he met this batch of grandkits and little Axis was already saying her wand did not work. Remus had not let it bother him, had told her not to worry. After all, kits developed differently.

Now? Now his mouth felt dry. "I... I can test you for magic talent if you would like, Axis..." However it was not impossible for his sweet grandkit to be a squib. Lovingly Remus cuddled and nuzzled the two, closing his eyes against the moisture that threatened to well. "but let's be honest... your mother will not love you any less if you can't do magic. Anymore than I could."

Xerviree smiled back as Axis gave him a tiny smile. He nuzzled her once more before snuggling into their grandfather's robe.

His mouth formed a tiny 'o' as Remus spoke of being able to test Axis for magic talent. He could do that? Maybe the magic could be fixed and then his sister could use it. He wasn't aware of what being a squib was, nor was he even aware of the term. "You should do it Axis." he spoke, his voice filled with hope. Looking up at Remus, Xerviree blinked. "Are you sure, Granbpoop? Mommy really likes us using magic." He really didn't want for his sister to be loved any less.

"Butbut. Lon and Xanny tested my wand. And I tried, I tried very hard! But I just couldn't do it." Brown tails drooped unhappily. "Cousin Morgan said her brother also can't use magic...so I guess I can't either." Moreover, she had left her wand at home. What use was it if she couldn't do any spells?

She nodded as Xerviree spoke. "Wouldn't momma be mad? I'm the only one who can't..." She trailed off, looking as though she was about to cry again. "Andand, she would be very disappointed. I don't want momma to be unhappy."

"it doesn't hurt." The oldest Lupin said softly with a smile. A smile difficult to keep as he listened to the kits and factored their kit speech and processed it into things he understood. Xanny...? Was that Xanul? Would Lon then be Xelon? hm... if they both tested the wand and it worked for them then the liklihood did seem possible that Axel simply could not perform magic. "Hm, Morgan's brother? William you mean. Yes Liliana was saying something to me about that, expressing a wish that he would show some interest in magic but to no avail." A sheepish smile for running off at the mouth like that.

"I think you will see that your mother likes you more than any magic." His eyes shimmered with emotion. "Disappointed, yes. She likely will be. But I am certain she will be more unhappy at your absences than learning you are not a witch, Axel dear." Again Remus nuzzled them. "You aren't loved for magic."

One of their cousin's couldn't use magic either? Maybe this kind of thing happened every now and then? Maybe the magic sometimes decided to be mean, and break, not working for certain people. He didn't really think such a thing was fair, and especially not for his sister. She was so good at pronouncing the spells, and she practiced really hard, his own magic wouldn't be as good if it weren't for Axis.

Xerviree flicked his ears, a thought bubbling up in his head. "Granbpoop?" he uttered softly. It took him a few moments to figure out what exactly he wanted to ask, as he tapped his little toes against the floor. "Since my magic didn't broked for me, could you give it to Axis?"

Even if their mother wouldn't love her less because of it, Xerviree wanted his sister to be able to preform magic like the rest of them. Even if such things ment giving her, his. He had trouble pronouncing the spells so often that they didn't often work, so then Axis would have been able to use the magic better. Right?

A small trickle of tears ran down her cheek. "I'm very scared, grandada." She had often imagined what it would be like if Ayako knew, how Ayako would react. And it hadn't turned out well in her imagination.

Her head jerked up and she slowly turned her head to look at her brother. "Viree..." He voice broke with emotion and she nuzzled him softly. "Your magic is yours." Besides, he couldn't give her that! She wouldn't allow it. It was his.

"There there, Axis dear. There's no harm in being afraid but there really is no reason for it. Your mother loves you." Gently he groomed her auburn head. Poor little kit...

The wizard nearly choked up, full of pride in his grandson's selflessness as he turned to nuzzle the little blonde kit gently at his offer. "How kind of you Xerviree. But even were that possible it is not our place to play God. We shall simply have to look into what your sister can do, instead of worrying about what she cannot." Remus pulled his grandkits lovingly closer so he could nuzzle and comfort both at once. "My dears... did you ever stop to think it is amazing that so many of you do have magic? None of my children have chosen other wizards for their mates. I did not. But there is more to who we are than magic or powers. There is ourselves, which is who we are no matter what. For that alone you are special. Yet still we love you no matter what, because you are you and our beloved family." Dark eyes sought those of his grandkits, looking from one to the other. "Do not forget that, how we love you. There is no reason to be afraid."

Xerviree smiled softly, though it vanished as quickly as it had come. "Axis....Are you sure?" he uttered, nuzzling his sister back. He just wanted his sister to be happy. As happy as she could ever possibly be. It didn't matter much to him that it was his magic he had offered.

At Remus' words the little kit frowned. "Oh.." They couldn't do it even if they wanted to then. It was disappointing that he could not give away his magic to Axis, and the sad look reamined upon his face as he was nuzzled. The little male nodded, listening as their grandfather spoke. He had never really thought of it that way, that it was amazing that he and his other siblings could do magic. It never really occured to him to think of it from that point of view.
