Anyone do much cooking and turning that into an artform? I came across this site for a bakery today, and was amazed at their cakes - the things that they do with chocolate, fondant and sugar is incredible. It's to a point where it's not so much a cake as an edible sculpture eek It looks quite hard and of course, made to be destroyed and eaten, but that makes it all the cooler in a way. Easter is also coming up, so is anyone thinking of doing anything fancy with chocolate? Any tutorials to share? There also seems to be a big trend of people making food miniatures from clay, felt etc. Anyone attempted it?

I was thinking of baking some cookies cut in bunny shapes (like gingerbread men, but with bunnies) and covering them with dark or white chocolate and piping some icing or contrasting chocolate over the top. Just as an alternative to chocolate eggs!
I'm not much of a cook though, so no idea if I'll get around to it or if the recipe will turn out sweatdrop

The site is very neat. The cakes are amazing. I love how it seems cooking is becoming an art. I guess it always was but now it seems like things are getting way more intricate. It's neat seeing what people can do with cakes and chocolate.
I've always wanted to be able to make intricate cakes and such. Though I know it must take a lot of time to do and I don't know how I would feel spending all this time on something and then having it eaten. I guess I would take lots of pictures of it.
For Eater I'm making egg shaped sugar cookies that will be decorated with icing patterns on them. They're going to look like Easter eggs. I started doing this when my mom told me I was to old to decorate Easter eggs.

Never too old to decorate stuff wink I've recruited my boyfriend to help me make my cookies and have been looking up recipes and tutorials for tempering chocolate for coating them with. Looks quite fiddly, we'll see how this goes.

Chocolate can be quite fiddly. I never have luck with it.
Chocolate covered cookies sounds yummy. Good luck with making them.

I don't use Chocolate anymore....too much trouble.
I now use Chocolate Almond Bark. It's super easy to use and you really can't tell much difference heart

Currently, my mom and I are getting into cake decorating classes. And when we first went I was like "These cakes aren't even pretty" so now we are going to start our own cake business. Maybe one day we will be as famous as those guys. n.n I hope. I want to out beat Ace of Cakes! scream

cooking as an art form, isn't much to me, then again my huge go all out thing is apple pie. and that's from scratch.. then again if I could find some cute pie dishes that are really small I could make a mock apple pie as if it was a real one, that would be cute, right? *totally hops over easter, not because it's not an important holiday, just that she didn't do much that day*

Yeah I didn't end up cooking anything for Easter, forgot to buy ingredients before all the public holidays and was generally lazy sweatdrop
@Mechante Lune: cake decorating sounds fun! Good luck with the business. Have you got any photos of any you've done?
@kiersin: Shall we make this open to any food related arts and crafts, even if they're inedible? whee I made a super cute felt cake last night, will have to take some photos.

ah, inedible, that seems quite fair, that way we get to keep things for longer then it would last otherwise, as pie doesn't last long when it's homemade.

Mmmm pie. Here is the felt cake I mentioned! The cool thing about craft food items is that it's really easy to find relevant props to photograph it with.

Chisa your felt cake is so cute.
I never even thought about how easy it would be to find props for craft food items. That's a very neat idea.
Did you embroider the seeds on the strawberry or are those beads?
