tips and tricks when you are... Angry Running, sports, punching a pillow, soft couch, etc Slash open empty cans, old clothes Crush ice with hammer or fist, throw it against the wall Listen to angry/loud music of your choice Play an instrument, draw, write, paint...self expression that expresses your angry Write a letter to who made you mad, but don't send it As you do any of this, rant about your anger out loud to yourself or someone willing to listen. Yell with the car windows closed Stomp on the floor Hammering nails in a board Martial arts (Judo&karate usually *nods*) Screaming in a vacant park/field Using a hammer to smash glass in a bag (double bag, immediately throw away bag)
You tried this, and are STILL angry? Take deep breathes and don't do anything to yourself, or others, until you have calmed down; focus on your breathing and get anything you could hurt yourself with . out of the way. After you have calmed through breathing, look back on what made you angry, recognize whether or not this is a real person or thing, and if it is, what did they do to you? Can you confront them about it? Is it something you need to take to the attention of legal forces, that puts you in danger? Is it imagined? If so, try to work these thoughts out through constructive ways, such as the things listed here.
After you have addressed these questions, use a rational approach to "rethink,'' "reframe',' and reason in your mind what is going on and why you are angry. Is what made you angry bringing up old resentment in you? What was this anger triggered by? Maybe the person, if they have normally treated you well, is having a hard time or bad day and just needs your understanding instead; try to question them on what has made them how they acted, though try to be subtle ("hey, I noticed you were having a day, is there anything I can help with? is everything alright?" ) What needs to be changed, and how could you handle this differently next time?Upset/sad/depressed Try relaxing in water - a bath, the shower, pools, the ocean, jacuzzi, etc Listen to soothing music to calm you down as you write, read, draw, etc Sleep (: Light a sweet smelling incense Make a cup of coffee, coco, tea - warm drinks are soothing; if you are crying or hysterical, cold water usually helps Call friends, family and talk about light conversations, weather, sports, video gamesCraving Self Injury Squeeze ice in your clenched fist Bite into peppers, ginger root, etc Take an extremely cold bath Snap your wrist with a rubber band Focus on your breathing, how it feels, breathe slowly as you do thisWanting to see blood Write on yourself with a red felt pin (anything you want, washable is good. ;D ) Take a small bottle of red liquid and put a top on it (you can find bottles like this at almost any arts and craft store) Warm it slightly by putting it in hot water for a few minutes, undo the bottle and put it on your body where you wish to see blood Paint yourself with red paint
