Pride of the Lynxians

PostPosted: Thu Mar 13, 2008 7:24 pm

The sun had set, the world submits to darkness. The emerald hues of the day's forest flora subsides to the sapphire and amethyst of the night's. Orange eyes pierced the darkness.
"Tonight Mørk. Tonight is the night we have been waiting for."
The jet chirop edged up close to Agrowind.
"We find? Could be danger."
Agro turned back to her tree and flew up to the next branch several meters above her own. She was followed quickly by the young chirop. Agro looked around cautiously before moving aside the branches that blocked a small hole, just large enough for her to squeeze her body through. In the hollow of the tree, she was able to stretch out and stand fully erect. She eyed her special collection as Mørk kept watch outside.
"Tonight, tonight we find it..."
She looked out to the moon rising in the sky
"Tonight it will be mine."

Agro finished the obsessive nightly polishing of her collection and squeezed back through the hole. She pushed the branches back in place to conceal it and turned back to Mørk.
"We go now?"
"Not yet. It would not be wise to go out alone. Not for this one. We need company."
Mørk fluttered up to a small twig and stretched out from it.
"Who we get?"
Agro hesitate.
"I have an idea."

A sleek shadow winged silently through the early evening darkness. Long since now her relationship with the bard Jester had been established and she was in high spirits.

This very evening, Twilla was going gathering and her little mus companion rode with her. Auze was still sore at her and Jester, but was beginning to come around. There was a new companion involved, although she had not come on this particular trip. Ash was a sweet skurri and Auze was quite taken with her. Both he, she, and their owner had gotten spiffy blue paint jobs, too, and that made him feel extremely special.

"Fin' shrooms t'nigh?" The mus asked from his spot in Twilla's gathering pack.

"We'll try... There has been a shortage of food, so we will take what we can find..." She sighed heavily and her stomach rumbled. She was quite hungry, but filling the beaks of the clan came first.

Agro looked to Mørk.
"Twilla, you remember her right? She is a gatherer. Now, listen closely and repeat after me. Find Twilla, tell her to meet me at the large oak. I have a big favor to ask her."
Mørk concentrated hard.
"Fin' Twilla. Meet big tree. large favour."
"Meet at the big tree." Agro encouraged.
"At tree." Mørk confirmed.
"Good, now hurry. Off with you."
Mørk nodded and flittered off from the branch.
"Fin' Twill. Big tree; meet. Favour big" he repeated to himself over and again.

She was unused to going without food, let alone going two days. Her stomach gave another protest as she flew along.

"Twil need food." The mus pointed out, sounding worried.

"Yes... But after a few trips. Take what we can to the drop point before we feed ourselves..." Still, she had second doubts when this came to mind. Food never sounded better and she knew the mus must of been hungry, too.

"Maybe if we find something else between now and then... Just a little bitty nibble..."

Mørk was flying high and heading towards the center of the woods. He kept what eye he could out for the blue-lined shadow. He didn't know her too well but he had heard stories from Agro's fledgling years. He also knew that she was a gatherer, but other than that he was not too sure.

Twilla was about to say something or another to her mus when she caught sight of something in the darkness.

Food.

The chirop was not marked and no sentinel was near it, so it was fair game. Besides, she was a gatherer. She braved the floor to bring berries and mushrooms. Hunters would take care of kills and none were around. This would be a hasty little snack that would keep her going.

After a moment of watching, the shadow swooped down on silent wings and snatched the chirop up with her Will. She perched on a wide limb and held the little dark chirop still, then aimed her beak towards it's neck.

"No kill! No kill!! Food getter has message! Message for Twill!"
Mørk squirmed around trying to get loose.
"Big tree! Favour!"

While the chirop wore no mark, his speech was enough to let Twilla know that he was, indeed, a companion.

She was rather dissapointed and released the little creature from the grip of her Will. Had he not known her name, she might of opted to finish him then and there.

He had, however, addressed her, which meant that his owner knew her from some way or another.

"What do you speak of, hnn?" She leaned nearer to the creature and her stomach rumbled. It would of been so easy to satisfy it, but she practiced self control and would not splurge. Besides, if something happened to her mus or skurri, she would of been devastated. She would not bring a similar pain to a fellow sentinel.

"Fin' Twil, Big tree. Has favour Agro does."
Mørk blurted out.
"Favour for Twilla."

The shadow gatherer sighed.

"Alright... Lead the way, chirop." She instructed quietly. Her gathering would be on hold until after she found out what Agrowind wanted. The mus in her pack shook quietly. The skull collection that Agrowind had frightened him.

"Yes, yes. I take you now!"
He said hurried.
He glanced at Twilla and cocked his head.
"We go now." he blurted out as he darted off towards where he had left Agrowind.

Twilla gave another exasperated sigh and lifted off, following the dark chirop.

Whatever Agrowind wanted, she was sure it was not going to be the most enjoyable experience. No doubt it would have to do with her eerie collection.

Mørk arrived at last to Agro's central tree. He looked behind him to assure himself that Twilla was following, as well as keeping a respectable distance from him. After all, being eaten was not his idea of a particularly fun time.
He landed next to Agrowind and tucked up next to her slightly shaken.
Agro tucked him under her wing and looked out to Twilla.

Twilla perched further down the branch that Agrowind was on.

"You requested my presence?" She inquired with a friendly hoot. It had been ages since she had seen teh hunter. It seemed she was only contacted when something was amiss or the other shadow was hunting for a new skull.
