The steady drum beat was my heart, and the lilting notes of the flute were the only thing I heard. Her arms move, I catch her. We breathe in sync, she twirls and falls, my hands catch her wrist in a gentle grip. Her arms move slowly into a delicate arc over her head, and I pull her up and towards me, so close our torsos touch. For a moment I am drawn out of the haze of the dance with a thought: a month ago she would not have allowed me this close. But then her hand is in mine and she darts away, drawing me with her. She lets go, dancing solo, ribbon of silk trailing after her like a flowing river. For a moment, my breath caught, my thinking tangled, but repeating one phrase. The goddess in mortal form. Her bare feet dance their way back to me, her movements smooth and with a touch of elegance. She stands, regal and beautiful goddess, as I kneel, a humble and entranced worshiper at a shrine. We end together, still as statues, until the music fades. My garnet eyes sweep over her, taking in everything with wonder and amazement. A month ago, she wouldn’t have let me so close to her. A year ago, this never would have even been dreamed of, the avian Tuuli Thea and the serpentine Diente dancing together. We would have met on a bloody battlefield, like my brother had, shedding blood, and in turn dying for a reason unknown. Garnet and emerald, obsidian and gold, serpentine and avian, Zane and Danica. The impossible made possible only by the outrageous suggestions of the Mistari, the one thing that made this love possible.

You're not a bad writer. I think it's short, but very sweet and cute! I think it's neat how you portrayed how completely surreal the situation must have seemed to him.

I can almost see Danica and Zane dancing from the way you described it. And I'm bad at imagining things. So you did an excellent job! biggrin
