Well I really don't think it was ever a witches had. In fact when I see Kuronue cosplayers wear a witches hat for their Kuronue cosplay I get a little pissy. For one, a witches had would be WAY too inconvenient for a thief and second of all it really does not seem to be his style. I actually think it was just a visor that wound up getting a little beatten up over time. Kuronue just liked it so much he didn't have the heart tio get rid of it so he just kept wearing it. That's just my opinion and theory anyway.

I am not saying you're bad for using a witches hat by any means. I mean if you made it work for you that's totally awesome. However I think you can make a perfectly descent cosplay with out using one too. I've cosplayed Kuronue a couple of times and both times I never used a witches hat.

I used a visor, glued some cardboard on it, shaped it, then covered it with leather. The buckle was gold painted femo and the strip was grey cloth. I've been told by many people told me as well that my hat looked just like Kuronue's and they were very impressed.
If you ever get around to taking a picture of just your hat and posting it, I would love to see it ^_^. I'd love to see what you did to make it work so well. With so many other cosplayers I have seen that use a witches hat for their Kuronue cosplay it looks just terrible, they just don't know how to cut it, or don't bother cutting it at all gonk They completely insult the wonderfulness that is Kuronue's hat.

Well, I suppose if you wanted to do a kind of Glam Rock/Gothic Japanese Kuronue cosplay wearing a top hat with a fancy ruffled outfit could work. However, I know for a fact that Kuronue's hat in the movie was not a top hat, I will find some images at 3/4 and profile angles to show my theory, and hopefully prove that it is a kind of visor. There was talk a few posts up of witches hat, and I just want to go back to that for a second... Let me ask this, how could it be a witches hat, if he had a high ponytail on his head? You have to also keep in mind that half of the time we could see the ponytail clearly and there seemed to be no sides or top to the hat. Also, a witches hat would sit a little differently on the head and the brim would be more cemetrical than Kuronue's was... Just a little bit to ponder.
