Okay, so Mercedes Lackey is my number one favorite author. I've read just about every one of her books, and I've never found one I didn't like. There are some, i.e. some in the Bedlam Bards series, that I didn't love, but all were well written.
Her Heralds of Valdemar series is amazing,;Vanyel's series is a life long love that I re-read all the time.
Have you read her stuff? Did you like? Did you hate it? If so, why!?

I haven't read them either, although I've heard that it's good...

I've read a couple, but it was a while ago so I'm not really sure which ones they were... When I have time (aka, the summer), those are some I'd like to try again. What should I start with?

I think I may have read one of the Joust ones... I don't know, I'll ask my friend (who told me about them) to see if she remembers what I've read.

It depends on the book for me... If it was really good, I'll usually come back to it again and again but not in an obsessed way. Otherwise, reading a book once is enough for me.

I read the Black Gryphon, the white Gryphon, and the Joust series. I LOVED Joust, but everything else (including Alta, etc.) was just mediocre. Joust is one of my favorite books though. I love how Kashet and later little Avatre are described, and I think I really like the desert aspect of it all.

I've read the first two books of the Pheonix (and I'm pretty sure that's not the actual name of the seriers) which I thought were pretty good. I like a good fantasy book that follows all the rules (which they did) and I have to admit that her character insight and growth is really good as well as really funny dialogue. The first book though to me seemed kind of slow with a very small story to it. I understand it's part of a series, but it still just seemed short. Still I liked the next book and I hope I'll be able to find the next one. I also read her version of the Firebird. That story to me has special meaning because I'm a dancer and we almost did it as our show of the year, and I also saw the Bullshoi (and I'm pretty sure I didn't spell that right) company dance it. I absolutly loved the book. I've read some retellings that have failed miserably, but I loved her portrayel of the main character and his journey. The ending to me was also really good and all in all I think it was a really good book.

I love Mercedes Lackey, especially her Valdemar books! I read the first Joust one and liked it, but I couldn't really get into the second one... I think that of the Valdemar books, the Vanyel ones are my favorite. I've read Magic's Pawn at least five times. Tylendel's my favorite character in the entire series, which is kind of ironic, for those of you who've read the books... I also liked Skif (sp?), in the ones set after Vanyel's time.
I highly recommend the books to anyone who hasn't read them--I'd also recommend starting with the first book in which Talia is the main character. I think it was called... erm, Arrows of the Queen ? Yep, I'm pretty sure that was it. And if Wikipedia's to be believed, the Talia ones were actually the first ones written, so I suppose that supports my advice to read them first...
