The sun would set soon. That searing-hot eye hovered just above the horizon, brushing the tantalizing peaks of the mountains with gold. But although in the west midnight blue was beginning to encroach upon the sky, the usual night-sounds of the plains had not yet begun.
Hibana lifted her head and took a deep breath to fill her lungs with the last scents of the day. A happy smile split her muzzle, and her green eyes were bright with anticipation. Most days she would have had to get back home by now, before the sun went down, but she was Growing Up Fast, and her parents had decided she was finally responsible enough to take care of herself after dark. Bai Shan had looked awfully sad for some reason when he said this, though the adolescent had been so excited she hadn't paid him much mind. And now... Hibana's paws began to move of their own accord until she was running just for the joy of it, feeling the wind pick up to match her speed and rush through her fur in exhilaration.[[Changed to ORP on 5.2.08]]

Musica's paws hit the ground lightly. Her small wings fluttered behind her as she walked. The night time was her best time, she was always out, traveling, she didn't like the day much.
The goddess let out a small chuff as she picked up her pace to a trot, she closed her eyes as the wind blew lightly into it. "What a nice night." She purred, as she slowed down. Something caught her nose, a scent. Her blue orbs traveled for a moment trying to track down what ever it was.

Rand found the young Hibana farther away from her family than she normally was. Normally she stayed with the others, playing around and enjoying youth, so he was surprised to find her out at night alone. Her enjoyment though was apparent, as she sprinted around.
Deciding to take her by surprise, Rand slinked into an area she would soon run and stood there, grinning.

The small adolescent's legs bunched for a leap, carrying her over a the yellowed bones of a gazelle's skeleton. They seemed to glow in the falling dusk, sending a thrilling shiver up her spine, and Hibana plunged onward.
There was something totally exhilarating about racing pell-mell through the grass and pushing her muscles to the limit. She imagined herself chasing the sun across the sky into the mountainous haze beyond, as if her feet were barely skimming the ground. But all too soon reality dragged her back down again in the hoarseness of her breathing and paws that felt like rocks. She slowed, sides heaving and sweat-streaked but still with a wide grin across her face. This was great!
It was then that Hibana caught an unfamiliar scent in the air. Not just unfamiliar like a strange lion... but almost as if it were something not quite lion altogether. Her paws came to a stop and she breathed in the scent, her green eyes looking around in puzzlement. Come to think of it, it seemed almost like she should recognize it somehow. But either the other, more familiar lion was downwind from her, or in her single-minded intensity at this new lion-not-lion mystery the adolescent simply didn't notice, because she was as yet unaware of the presence of any other in this part of the plains.

Noticing the young one stop, Rand rolled his eyes and began to stalk up to her. He moved slowly enough to seem not in a hurry, but directly toward her, so that she knew he meant to talk. It was really too bad she'd stopped running, as it would have been exhilarating to run beside her.
With his mind on these things, his nose was suddenly aware of the reason she stopped. Something was different. Off. He'd never smelled anything like it, which unnerved him. He thought he was aware of most things on these plains, having been his home the past year or two. This new smell though... it was enticing. It made his mind wander as he continued toward Hibana.

Musica noticed the other two lions and smiled. She was probally hard to see. Un like them she blended into the land scape, on top of that she could see better in the night then most. She troted over to the others and grinned, she was not very close to them about 10 feet away.
She smiled and sparkled the star like markings on her coat trying to make herself stick out more. She fluttered her wings a bit and smiled. "Hello." She said in a purr like voice.

Before he could even speak to Hibana, he noticed a shimmer off to his left. Watching it, it seemed as if a Lion formed right out of the night sky itself... it was hard to even imagine. Blinking several times before coming out of his stupor, and before he could think, the words blurted out of his mouth. "What ARE you?"
He instantly felt ashamed. He had meant to ask who they were, not what, but it seemed his mind didn't want to work with his mouth at the moment. Bowing his head a bit, he lowered his eyes and apologized. "I mean, who are you?"

Still trying to figure out that odd scent, it took Hibana a moment to realize she was hearing voices too. And that one of them, the louder one, sounded kind of familiar.
"...Rand?" She padded up a slope, in the direction she thought the voices were coming from, only to see... nothing. Her eyes hadn't yet adjusted to the growing darkness, and the adolescent turned her head this way and that, trying to catch the scent or the voices again. There! Or was it? Something shimmered oddly against the sky, and it seemed vaguely lion-shaped - but that couldn't be right. "...Are you sparkling?"
If every night out was this interesting, Growing Up Fast was going to be even more fun than she'd thought.

Musica couldn't help but to chuckle at the two lions. The must had never seen a goddess before. She smiled and flicked her tail behind her, her wings stopped fluttering her wings and smiled.
"My name is Musica. I am the goddess of the night sky." She smiled, watching the surprised faces of the two with a grin on her maw. "Yes young one, I guess you could say I am sparkling. But I am really talking to the stars." She looked up with a smile and shimmered again.

Rand plopped down on his hind quarters trying to take it all in. He'd heard of goddesses before, but the mere thought that one was standing in front of him left him without words, and very few things could do such. Sniffing the air, it was hard not to believe it. The scent she gave off was that of the night sky, the crisp cool air of the evening, and she shimmered in and out of existance it seemed.
Padding over to hibana and sitting next to her, Rand sat, waiting for someone else to make the next move. he wasn't sure what his would be.

...Oh. That definitely wasn't Rand's voice, was it? And now she could see that the speaker was female. The goddess of the night sky, the lioness had introduced herself as, and she had wings. If this wasn't turning into an adventure, she didn't know what was. "Talking to the stars?" That sounded fun, like a properly godess-like sort of thing to do. "What do they say?"
Then suddenly she realized why the goddess had seemed sort of familiar. "You smell kind of like the pretty lady!" she blurted out. Then she frowned, the tuft on her tail twitching distractedly. "But not... I dunno. Musica's a pretty name, though."
Out of the corner of her eye - she was watching Musica hard, in case she decided to sparkle back out of existence again before Hibana could meet her properly - she saw another dark shape disengage itself from the night around them to settle at her side, and this time recognized his familiar scent. Oh, so she hadn't been imagining his voice after all. "Hi Rand," she whispered, feeling suddenly and uncharacteristically shy as the reality of this shimmering immortality in front of them slowly sunk in.

Purring a hello back to Hibana, Rand turned back to face the shimmering wonder before him. His skin goose pimpled just being thise close to her. He hadn't believe the legends... but he was always one that needed to see things with his own eyes, touch them with his own paws, smell them for what they really were, before acknowledging they existed. The simple fact that he believe in Zahina at all was a miracle, since he'd had no prior encounters with any of her kind.
Clearing his throat, he felt he should be the next one to speak. "So... what brings you to our part of the plains?"

Musica flicked her tail behind her and looked between the two lions. She hadn't seen that many around, maybe it was because she spend so much of her time traveling, at night none the less. Her small wings fluttered a bit and she smiled. "Zahina sent me down..." Her voice trailed a bit. "I need to spend some time down here, I felt like I was needed for what ever reason, so here I am." She smiled softly and looked between the two. she pushed her self up slightly. "Why are you two out, late?" She questioned back.

Rand blushed a bit, glad that his dark fur and it being night prevented the actual colour from showing. He was always out at night, it was his time, but when he'd seen Hibana running like the wind, he had wanted to get to know her a little more. Sure, she was still young, but young ones grew up eventually.
"I am always out this late. And when Hibana took off running, i followed. After all, she is a part of what may be my future pride." Hoping the reply was enough for the goddess, Rand looked a little toward the ground. Could they read minds? Could she tell without reading minds? Sighing internally, he would have to hope if she could, she would keep it to herself.

"Down here... Do you live in the sky? And how do you talk to the stars? What do they say?" Though she'd momentarily hung back, shyly letting Rand begin the conversation, Hibana's awe was quickly wearing off. Her youthful exuberance could hardly be kept in check for long however important the occasion, it seemed. But then she ducked her head again, remembering that she wasn't supposed to ask so many questions anymore, and looked back to Rand again. Some things about growing up weren't so much fun.
"It's my first night allowed on my own after dark," she said, tail twitching energetically at the tip as she remembered how much more beautiful and intense everything had seemed when she had the whole world to herself. Or so she had thought - but Hibana could hardly complain at this turn of fortune. A real live goddess, just come down from her sky-home or wherever it was she lived, and she and Rand were the first mortals to meet her. Ever.
Her ears caught the mention of pride, and she brightened more. "Uh-huh, me and Rand and Bai Shan and Luna and everyone else are starting one. Do gods have prides too? Because I'll bet you could join ours, if you wanted."
