Dying was always so peaceful.

A pair of mismatched eyes stared listfully upwards towards the sky, a haze making the view seem dulled and unfortune - his glasses had fallen off in the fall, and had skittered off to god knows where on the snow around him. A small grace from the usually perminent location on his nose. It was probably broken.

His back was probably broken. But, he felt nothing, he heard little and his mind thought little to nothing. This was an ultimate peace, a lull that only came once to many.. and had come about 9 times to him. Cursed to die. No, wait that's wrong. He was 'blessed' to continue dying, wasn't it? Whatever it was, it was an inconvenience. If he had a breath, he would have quickly snorted it, but instead, the silence held, and he stared at that blasted cliff. Blast you, blasted piece of elevated ground that happened to be there longer than he had been on this planet that just slid from under his feet.

Thinking tired him.

"..."

Ears twitched like a broken clock to the subtle sound, some thud off in the muffled distance. Perhaps it was just another weight of snow deciding to crash from tree branches. Snow. Chilled fur shuddered to the temperature, a meager attempt to keep the individual aware of her surroundings and bound in her body. But with the blandness of surrounding peace, the kitsu was loosing terribly. And now? Curiousity brought her back into focus.

Moving without sound or breath, Setsu left her postion of rest under the dry tree, peering at the winter wonderland around her. Paws stepped slowly, despite the cold biting into her front paws bitterly. It was too bright out, and it was too cold. And she was too stubborn to head indoors, in the obvious dwellings of social individuals. A gleam flashed the corner of her eyes, and she tilted her head with a glance.

...Spectacles?

Approaching the human object, Setsu picked up the object for inspection. One lense was crisp, and the other split in two with a fine crack. But where had they come from? A few moments more spent of wandering led her to an answer. Just there passed the shallow hill laid another kitsusagi, body bent limply and freely. But there was no blood. Drawing near, Setsu stood on her hinds like a meerkat, peering down at the male with her own two-toned eyes. Indigo and Garnet, both saturated dull. "Conscious, are we?"

As the winds played with his long hair, the aged kitsusagi kept his mind from reeling again. It was a very rare occurance, but something that always happened when he died, clairvoyance was not too far back. It made his head hurt from thinking too much, so in his state of .. not being, he usually tried to not be as much as possible.

During this stage of not being, and through the fog of his dulled senses, it took a few moments for him to register the sound, the vibration of the ground that his crooked and beaten body laid so carelessly on. Someone else was in this clearing. A part of his mind revelled on how short it was before he was found - usually he died without another realizing, just a meaningless lost of life... again. But when the other form came closer, the familiar scent of stale life overpowered his normally foggy sense of smell. Guess his nose really wasn't broken.

Furrowing his brow sloggishly, he tried to lean his head ever so slightly around to catch sight of whoever may be in the same vicinity as he was - and during this tedious task, she appeared. Indigo and Garnet met Black and White, and for a short moment, the words that escaped her maw didn't register in his brain. As he slowly dawned on the statement, he curled back up in his fallen position, giving a rumbling like sound in his throat - a sound that replaced a huff when he could draw no breath.

"Painlessly, and yet, unfortunately. It would appear I am still of this world." He answered, death taking over all motor senses and making him sound slow and drawn out, but his voice still sounded well aged, it carried on the wind. Calm, collected, as if he had done this hundreds of times. "You will have to forgive my lack of chivalry, I appear to be temporarily immobile." A tint of anguish raided his normally calmed voice. Death he could take, immobility was another story.

This moment of silent curiousity was taken as a time to note the others details. An attire made of bright hues, as if never once thinking of camouflage. Skin of alabaster to mock the snow, though was speckled with tangerine and charcoal. And long, fair hair trailing messily in a braid. Enough so to make the individual mistaken for a male. The hair accesory didn't help in that matter. If anything, this male could pass as an exact opposite to Setsu's traits. At least in choice of appearance.

Tail ends shuddered in protest to being used as balance weights, and Setsu pulled down onto all fours. The space between her and the body in question was no more than five feet away. She had spotted no weapons, thus had allowed such close proximities without much pause as normal. The male finally inched movement, and Setsu stared on in detachment. That is, until soul orbs opened, and the femme narrowed her own brow. Seperate eye colors as well? But his wasn't red, and thus any hopes that he was from her reality were thwarted. Still, it was an odd trait to be admired.

The rumble went hardly noticed, and Setsu flicked heavy tails about her ankles. Painlessly? Unfortunately? Those to went unnoticed, taken as normal words of an individual depressed. A blabbering of self-pains. But..

"Collapsing won't free you of this world. Of that much I am certain." Else she would already have taken leave of this furry world. Were it that simple. Her ears pinned back in thought, one ear slapping the horn attached to her scalp. A curt and monotone-cursed voice gave him a response. "Temporarily? Then in the question of assitance, I take it you need none?" Even if he did, the thought made her wary. What if the other was mortally injured, despite his placid face.

It pleased the great old soul to hear the curiousity, and possibly, a small tint of worriment in the other's voice - it had been such a long time since he had another question his safety and offer assistance, it felt kind of nice. Well, he assumed as such, feeling was only slowly starting to return. Very slowly.

Rolling his eyes upwards again, he looked at the company that would share his death today, and found her to be of sound look - a bit dark for his tastes. then again, he was one against death, and bright colours had always been his thing. Why worry about camoflague when you can't die? As his dull dead eyes watched her, he gave her a smile, before lifting a paw, and pointing in a general direction, almost effortlessly. The dead always felt lighter than the living, he blamed breathing.

"I do appreciate the offer, but position wise, I would worry about my back returning to it's natural.. curve, awkwardly. Again." He started, his eyebrow flincing lightly at the mention of curve, an accident in his youth he would not want to do twice. "Although, I have slowly degraded, vision wise during the many years I have lived, and have become rather dependant on a pair of glasses to keep me on the straight and narrow," he started, before giving off another sloggish, and hollow laugh. "Guess they didn't help much with missing that cliff, such a ghastly fall, but rather fun, now that the loss of life is behind me - I would sigh of I could draw breath. But anyways, I ramble. Could you assist me in finding them, young one?" He queried lightly, raising his eyebrows, trying to pull of some kind of helpless old man look, despite looking only in his late prime. Curse the gods.

Setsu heard nothing in her tone, and didn't dare pause to ever think there were such messages in her sentences. A reason she left talking to a minimal, if anything at all. But with an individual laying upon the ground battered and broken, it was either walk or talk. And frankly, she wasn't cruel enough to just walk away. Damn feeling emotions of the living.

The femme frowned down at the male, eyes only clear in her investigating of the other. Her animal nose may be weak, but what she saw before her was the same in any world she could tread. Dull and glazed eyes. The first pair in this world she'd ever seen. And it made her form tense, indecisive on how to react. Attention followed his pointed direction, before a brow rose at him in questioning. Again? So if her guess was correct...he'd been in this state of being for a long time. Enough so for familiarity, at least.

"If that's your choice." But had it been her, to lay in the snow for too long would have been enough incentive to urge her to move. Then again, what will did she have to live anyways? Ears flicked to his hollow laugh, and as the kitsu made to sit, she could only wonder what her dry throat sounded like in humor. A front paw drew up her sleeve as she eyed said cliff with half a smirk. Then it faded to a thoughtful frown. "So, then you are in that ranking of title. May I ask of how long?" When was his deathdate?

Her paw emerged from her sleeve, dragging along the missing glasses and holding them up in the other's line of sight. "Aye, then these must be yours." Eyes blinked to his assumption of her age. Any guesstimation of her lifespan would be incorrect, as even she couldn't give a specific number. None the less, with the male's collective demeanor and formal manners, it was obvious that he was her senior.

"Ah! Mine faithful glasses, thank you kindly my dear." He started with such lifted spirits, even if his voice barely wavered the feeling, "I suppose I will have to get them repaired once again, a thousand years of needing glasses and not one creature on this planet can come up with safe and yet unbreakable glasses. Shame." he rambled on, as he lowered them to his shirt to rub quickly before returning them to their rightful spot.

It felt weird, with the hairline cracks ripping through his sight, but he could see everything as clear as possible in his state of death. Which still was not very much, but gave him such a nice perspective of his temporary friend. She may not have seen it as such, but he considered most creatures friends. Even the dead ones. At a much clearer glance, she looked much more different then the fogged stranger that appeared next to him, almost discontent. The frown on her muzzle made the old creature wonder if she took her comatose state too serious.

"If it t'were my choice, my dear, I would have chosen to stay at the top of the cliff, in theory." he answered lightly, not a tinge of anger or any tainted marrs in his voice. "But, theory is such a wonderful place, I'm sure one only gets to revel in its glory for slices of time. Such a waste of goodness in life." Infact, it was even close to say that the old creature was remarkably content with everything - amused even. Falling off high places was one thing. Being able to walk away from it after a while was another - a grand adventure.

It appeared though, that the lass had grabbed hold of how he kept alive after such a fall, her voice never wavering as she asked how long he had been .. dead - he assumed. Was there an easy way for him to explain? Lowering his head once again to peer upwards to the sky, his head reeled in its fog for the easiest answer. It felt like 10 minutes to him, but honestly his thoughts only took him a mere moment. "It honestly depends on which time you are querying about. In theory, I've been within the title of the lost for nearly one and a half millenia. A long time of being this way, I would suppose." he began, his voice suddenly taking a stern and elder-like approach, almost fatherly too. "Although, this time around, I have only been deceased for about an hour, it never lasts longer than a few days, though I have been dead for a week. In a nut shell my dear," a sweep of his head to look at her again, "I have been constantly wavering in an out of death for many, many years. You'd think I'd have gotten bored of it, but I like to believe I'm just in my prime of lif-er death. Well both. Even though, most of those I knew are long gone and in the ground."

"I think the most sound thing to do now would formally introduce myself." he answered, before turning over and digging his forepaws in the ground. His back, although possibly broken, felt like it could now take the weight of the old Kitsusagi, and with a grunt and slow movements, he found himself sitting once again - the fall now just another fresh scar on his soul. As he sat, one would notice that his midsection bent a little awkwardly, more so than a normal kitsusagi, it was as if he was leaning.

The whole process, only to give her a slow and low bow, a smile playing on his face. "A great pleasure to meet you, mine original name was lost in the sands of time, but you, and many others, can call me Romulus Invictus Pias." the smile broadened as he raised himself again, slowly, so that he may not upset the healing process of his body. "But, everyone just calls me R.I.P."

"No thanks required." Her paw hung the spectacles by one leg, letting the male recieve them by the other. Maw tweeked to his little statement, never once before stopping to think of the advances in the world of lense craft. She was appreciative then not to have the item of glass perched on her nose for the use of sight. "Hm. Will you get by just as well with that pierced crack then?" She wouldn't know, never having worn such equipment before.

His smooth and placid voice was surprising to her. She was too used to having a biting tone to her words, and having the expected bruised retorts as replies. So, it was an odd change of pace, and the femme looked to the cliff idly. It was so far up, the male had been lucky there was snow to break his fall. Else his injuries would be more severe than just his bent torso. Ears fell to a slouch with his regards to theories and their pleasures in life. Almost like the scientist, yet less...demanding? She couldn't describe it, but it seemed less intrusive. "I suppose theory does have some perks to it." She'd much rather run on theory than on nothing but curiousity. "Still, is it not like a book, missing its sequel? It's glory can only run so far until action is called forth." And that's where hesitance could run in.

Eyes turned back to the cryptic male, brow raising to him in intrigue. How did he manage to lay there, calm and almost glamorously content, despite his crumpled and rotting reality? Had time and age tamed him to be so? Surprise echoed in her hollow being though eyes remained unamused, staring and absorbing his replies. "In theory, huh?" That was a long time, in the perspective of mortal beings as bland as humans or kitsus. Brows knit in slight stumbling over his next words. "You are both...dead and deceasing?.."

The dark clothed kitsu flinched back as the other began to move, herself clenching her jaw. It must have been the knowledge that they were alike, though not purely, but certainly bound by the same conditionings, that made her body tense. As if the other would crumple before her and expell his soul and knowledge from his form in a breath. It'd be a lose to her sanity, seeing a fate of death on an undead. Something she thought she may never face, as if it was a myth. "Then do so with care." She didn't want pain for show.

"Romulus Invictus Pias." Her tongue formed the words together, accepting and acknowledging the name now associated with the sight. Her tails thudded the snow behind her as she turned her head with a crack that was to be a laughing replica. "Such grim humor you have, I must admit that was unexpected. RIP. I apologize, but I much prefer Romulus." Front paws withdrew from the snow to settle against her torso, like a squirrel sitting upright in pause. Already the tips of her flesh were decreasing in precious warmth, despite the sun. "Trust me when I say the pleasure is all mine." Imagine, another unliving right before her, with intellect. No zombies among these two. "I go by Setsu. Simple enough, yes?"

"I should be all right with these spectacles for now; when I've returned to breathing, I should find they who formed these glasses for me to replace them - I'm sure." he stated. He had already started to feel used to the hairline crack that parted his sight in one eye - it was a subtle issue, and he figured more things more pressing at the time - such as healing his wounds and finding his way back to the living. Whenever that may be; for all he knew it could have been a few hours to a few days. But, he was much more curious about the other that stood in front of him - he didn't meet very many without the spark of life as he, and when he did, a grand conversation was to be had. He was the kind who embraced those that were akin to him.

"I suppose you could call me both dead and deceasing; I don't intend to take the big, final dive for awhile now - and the gods above me seem to be content with keeping me in this world." he started, with a dull glance up at the skies above him. His voice starting to crisp ever so slightly from the sloggish sound that it was only a few moments ago on the snow. "I suppose you can call me a paradox, able to withstand death, but never staying dead for too long. It shocked me when I was originally so young and naive - but now I've come to live with it. Most of the time."

A pause. He had decided to take a moment to regard the other once again in front of him, black and white darting at her once or twice in a non-threatening fashion, (well, not too much fashion at all.) before nodding softly. It was kind of nice being able to talk to someone as dead as yet not dead as you are. A sense of knowledge came with hearing those life-drained words tumbling out from another's maw. "A deep magic lies within my blood and soul, I should revive soon; I can always tell. The flowers on my brooch and hair are what are known as a flower of grievance in my home - they smell beautifully and are laid to rest on the grave of one's deceased family member on their death-days." He mentioned, figuring a little history could be told to such a good companion. "When I'm in this state, I can't smell it. Well, I can't smell too much, it seems to dull incredibly for me, so when I'm close to re-living, it's the first thing I smell, that sweet aroma, that is told to calm the souls of the lost from where they lay." he finished, chuckling softly - the hollow sound rolling through his body like an old dream. "Forgive me for rambling."

Hearing Setsu's own dry laughing, he raised his eyebrows ever so lightly, before hearing her mention his humour in his name. He enjoyed making others chortle softly, even if his name was dear to his heart. "Setsu, it's a very wonderful name. Strong and yet delicate at the same time. I shall commit it to memory," he mentioned, smiling, "I am quite fine with being called Romulus, I can understand the reasoning behind it."

The dual curiousities could be equally balanced. It was so estatic that it could nearly be read in the dull depths of Setsu's eyes. "Perhaps, if there are any glass former's in these lands." Her pale ears slid down to his mention of breathing, and it took al her will not to reach out and feel his empty chest cavity as well. Brows pinched together to the statement, utterly confused by how differently undeads could function. "Return to breathing. Well, you lucky dog.....kitsusagi..whatever." She shook her head while shrugging off that topic. They were furry with paws, that's all she knew.

Setting her gaze up at the sky too, Setsu cocked her ears and folded her forearms tightly while listening to the other. So many words shouted out from his sentences, like shiny keys to the mystery of life demanding to be seen. Only she couldn't find the door to unlock with them. Dead. Deceasing. Final and gods. Just a bunch of words. "A paradox, hm? Well let's just hope your ability never abandons you. Though I doubt you're blood will run dry or your soul will disperse anytime soon. In the very least, it no longer surprises you..."

Her train of speech was slowed, and she sealed her lips while downcasting eyes back upon the other. Silver on crimson and onyx on indigo. If she didn't know any better, she'd assume that to be a symptom of unliving as well. Then they drifted to mentioned flora. "Ah, then you were well appreciated in life. How kind of them to decorate you with their adorance; no doubt they would smell lovely. I on the other hand, well, let's just say I'm lucky enough to have been set with my dagger." She shook her head, while closing her eyes from the nippy air. "It's of no concern, rest assured. I take great interest in such detailed histories. It's...educational."

Allowing a small smirk, the kitsu made to stand with snow crunching under her adjusting weight. Then she pawed off some powder clinging desperately to her fur-lined clothes. "Another paradox, yes? But what lies in a name besides a jumble of letters? Heh, even so and I still find myself compelled to call you Romulus." She tread on over to the other, quirking a brow at his vulnerable form from her stance. Shaking out a paw, she extended it slowly to the male. "Can you stand now? If not that, then grasp my paw?" Just to see another flopped in the snow made her own bones ache. Then again, their situations did hold their differences.
