For those who don't know, a bibliophile is a fancy-pants name for someone who absolutely LOVES books. Not to be confused with bibliomania, which is the love of simply owning books.
I'm proud to be a bibliophile. And so, I begin the list of:
You know you're a bibliophile WHEN...
-When even your Gaia avatar has a book. (Guilty)
-When your bookshelf is the most tidy thing in your room. (Guilty)
-When you go into a bookstore, saying you'll only get one book, and you come out with three or more. (Guilty)
-When the librarians know you by name. (Guilty, but I volunteer at a library)
-When you absolutely have to read while eating/drinking/going out/in the bathroom/etc. (Yes, I carry one everywhere)
-When you throw a fit at your classmates when they say a 200-page book is too long for them, especially when it's a great piece of literature. (I HATED this in high school. Thank God I'm in college now.)
-When you plan your career around books. (I want to be an English teacher or a librarian.)
-When you crack open a book just to smell that new book smell...(I love that smell. I want to market it. Eau de Bibliophilia!)
-When you want to name your kids or future kids after literary characters. (Yep! I have a list.)
Well, I want your additions to this list! Go on, post yours! Don't be shy.

-When you have stacks of books around your room because there's no room left on the shelf...
-When you try to talk like your favorite book characters (I just so happen to spout nineteenth century dialogue from time to time.)
-When you can spend hours in the library or bookstore just looking at books.

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to...
-When your comfort zone is a bookstore. Especially my favorite, though, is one where I have to walk through the bookstore to get to the mall.. so I always get distracted going to the mall and end up buying books. Even when I tell myself no. : (
-When most of the furniture in your home is held up with books, because you can't fit any more bookshelves into your home and they need someplace to be. ^^;
-When you read until the wee hours of the morning, only to find that you're falling asleep face-first into your book -- and you wake up in the morning that way.
...strawberry fields.

-When you're on a first name basis with the librarian?
I can say I'm guilty of that one...Both with the librarian at my former-high school and most of the librarians at the public library.

-when the librarian and you fight over the new books -when librarians hold books for you knowing that you will like them -going to every free book fair -getting books or gift cards for books for every holiday -reading every book in the reading room of your school -passing notes in class about books you have read with a friend
I am guilty of every single one. I am a book nerd to the end.

-when your parents can only threaten to take away your books, because you hardly do anything else -when you read a book over cavorting with your friends -when your friend has to forcefully drag you from your book -when you have already read all the books on the high school reading list plus some - when you use words nobody else seems to have heard -when you take on personalities of your favorite characters because you are bored. -when you have to convince yourself what you are reading isn't true
GUILTY... That last one got me in quite a bit of trouble recently...

when you were young being grounded wasn't a big deal you would just read in your room any way
when all you want in the whole world is a book case
when you cry over the fact that family members put their water glasses on your books and leave cup rings on them (had a full out screaming match at my dad for this )
when you feel like you understand how addicts can become dealers/ pushers because that's what you do to your friends.
when your best gift is a book holder (some people use bible carriers but there are regular ones at the Barns and Noble I work at !!!) so you don't damage your books when you take them places.
When working at a book store is the perfect job for you and everyone you know knows this too.
When you grow up you just want a job where you read books

-when you can out-read your English teacher -when you can guess the plot line of a book based on how many other books you read that are similar -when you get in trouble at school for reading under the desk...even in English class -when you have a fight over a book with your best friend because they have the book you want and you took it from them.
