The Unified Empire of the Mirai

Colloquially called the Unified Empire, or simply the Mirai, its formal name is the Unified Empire of the Mirai in reference to a time when the Mirai Star System was home to several dozen warring nations. Now, the Mirai are all part of a single militant government. There are basically three divisions within the Mirai, which can be distinguished by the manner they touch the Force. They are the Budoka, the Moriath, and the Mirai. Every citizen of the Unified Empire belongs to one of these divisions. The Mirai possess both picocytes and midichlorians, but only enough to give them very limited Force Sensitivity and to have Force Sight. If they have enough midichlorians to wield the Force, then they are Moriath. The Budoka are also capable of using the Force, but have undergone a process which burns away the midichlorians in their bodies.

Imperial Law designates three classes of citizen, though currently there live only the highest class of citizen as the Empire has not engaged in military campaigns for several generations. Citizens Imperial are full citizens of the Empire and thus possess all the rights, privileges, and freedoms that entails, as well as the duty to the Empire that requires some form of service. Citizens Auxiliary are those citizens who were not born into the Empire and who at one time were Citizens Subject. They have pretty much the same status as Citizens Imperial, but are considered to be slightly lower class citizens and have to go through different procedural offices than Citizens Imperial. The lowest class is Citizens Subject and denotes citizens whose loyalty has not yet been proven, such as the members of a newly conquered world. Citizens Subject are considered to have no rights, privileges, or freedoms, but those granted by the grace of the Lord Mirai. Until such time as they complete the process to become Citizens Auxiliary, they are generally treated with suspicion, but so long as they obey the laws imposed upon them, lead a fairly un-interfered life not very different from before they became Citizens Subject.

Rank Hierarchy

Mirai and Moriath: The Mirai and the Moriath share a rank heirarchy, though typically lone Moriath are attached to other units or a group of Moriath combine to form an elite unit.

Budoka: The Budoka are divided into sixteen clans of equal standing whose members are ranked by combat prowess.

The Mirai
The Mirai are the oldest and largest division of the Empire, distinguished primarily by their low midichlorian count and lack of blood-borne picocytes.

The Moriath
The Moriath are the traditional Force Users of the Empire, possessing high midichlorian counts as a result ancient Miraluka blood, selective breeding, and technological enhancements to ensure midichlorians transfer to offspring.

The Budoka
Within the Empire there exists an elite society whose members are known as Budoka. Imperial Law contains exceptions that allow one Budoka to kill another of equal or greater rank without answering to the government, though he may have to face the punishment of his peers. It is considered a great honor among Mirai and Moriath alike to be given the opportunity to become Budoka even though only one in twenty will survive training to see combat.

Budoka devote themselves wholly to the ways of War. Their weapon is the Andamacil, and while trained in the use of others, they wield only this or nothing. Budoka serve the citizens of the Empire, but do not serve the Lord Mirai. As such, they participate in every military action and, should it prove necessary, they will be the ones to kill the Lord Mirai when he should fail the Empire.

Budoka are distinguished by the coloration of their armor, a unique digital pattern of reds, blues, and greens and by their blood, which contains high quantities of picocytes. These picocytes are infused in an initiation ceremony that burns away any midichlorians once present, removing any previous distinction between Moriath and Mirai.

Force Weaving

Force Weaving is the traditional manner in which the Moriath use the Force and has several advantages over the ways of the Jedi and Sith (and also some disadvantages).

Weaving is done by channeling threads, also called weaves or flows, of one of five basic forms of Force energy. Each band corresponds most closely to a specific form of matter-energy, solid, liquid, gas, plasma, or pure energy labeled Earth, Water, Air, Fire, or Spirit, respectively.

Weavers draw on one or several of these bands (more potent Force Weavers can control greater numbers of flows at once) and shape and combine them to use the Force. At its simplest level, this is identical to the ways in which traditional Force-Users wield the Force. The true strength of Weaving, however, is in combining multiple threads to create more complex, even spell-like, effects.

Weaving requires that the Force-User have Force Sight. But weavers can also 'invert' their weaves so that only the weaver who cast the weave can see it. Weavers can even cast and invert a weave that hides their ability to touch the Force.

Weavers can also 'tie-off' their weaves, fixing them semi-permanently until the knots come loose on their own (again, more powerful Weavers can make more complex weaves last longer) or are untied by a Weaver. Though, powerful Force-users may also be able to break through some weaves.

Tying off weaves makes it possible for Weavers to create wards and traps. Weaves which react to certain events in preset ways. Wards differ from traps in that weaves are less powerful and can be made not to dissipate after the first time they are triggered, but wards are also non-destructive. Traps may be destructive, but also can never be triggered more than once. Although it is possible to set traps in such a way that only one will trigger at a time.

Related to traps and wards are Incantations. Incantations, however, are physical formations which have predetermined Force effects. Typically, these formations are at the microscopic or quantum scale, but they can also take other forms, especially the more complex Incantations. Another strength of Incantations is the ability to create Force Artifacts, particularly one's which allow a Force-User to wield more of the Force.

Force Weaves
Offensive:
Bind - Flows of Air are used wrap around and constrict a target to prevent it from moving.

Fireball - A single flow of fire is formed into a sphere and cast. A simple variation is to channel a constant flow as a tongue or torch of fire.

Fire Arrow - Fire and a small amount of Air are woven to create a beam of plasma. Typically, this is laser straight, but it can also be curved.

Lightning Bolt - Mostly self-explanatory, but can come from one of two sources, the Weaver himself or drawing on the natural energy of the surrounding atmosphere. The latter is exponentially more powerful, but not always a viable option.

Imperial Armor

Exosuit: The Exosuit is a full body glove that serves as a vacuum-rated light armor and the base layer for Imperial Armor. The top layer is Poly-Armor and a plate armor helmet. Poly-Armor is a picocytic polymer armor that has the specific property of being very flexible and form fitting ordinarily, but hardening to ceramic strength in direct proportion to any nonplanar compressive force. This makes the polymer ideally suited to various pressure and combat environments. Beneath the Poly-Armor is a picocytic nanotube-based supermuscalature that reacts to nerve impulses detected through skin and has a cotton weave texture. The Exosuit will also act as the primary biointerface for Imperial Armor and compatible systems and has complete life support systems. Exosuits also have built-in EM Cloaks.

Armor: Atop the Exosuit, there are four distinct layers of armor. The lowest layer is the Hide layer, composed of picocytic cellular musculature and nervous system that is named for its leathery texture. Above this is the Scale layer composed of multiple layers of small (~1 square cm), interlocking picocytic ceramic scales with an appearance similar to snake scales. Next is the Fabric layer, which varies by personal preference, but may include webbing for weapons and equipment, a textured ghillie suit, or other forms of camouflage. The final layer is the Plate layer of various pieces of Reactive Armor Plating. Weapons are worn over top all the armor. Moriath armor also has two exclusive features: the Hide layer is capable of extending outwards in two pairs of wings from the wearer's back and the Fabric layer includes a Hakama.

Since both the Hide layer and the Scale layer cover the entire body, it is possible for the wearer to be mistaken for some form of reptilian species, particularly due to the enclosed helmet, plate armor, and loose fabric layer. The Mirai take no steps to dissuade this misconception.
