Nadine lay in the hot sun. It had been a week now since they'd found the dens. People were settling into a nice routine, and hers right now was laying out on the rock that overlooked the woods, basking in all the sun that she could get. It had been more common lately however, that a nap accompanied these bathing episodes. Her energy was drained, and regardless of all the happiness going around, she couldn't help but feel more and more drained and sick.
While dwelling on this, quite suddenly her abdomen gave a lurch. Scrambling to quickly make it to the edge of the rock, mornings lunch of fish decided that it was to escape from her. After a while, she walked down to the stream to wash the bile taste out of her mouth. She still felt sick, but the cool water seemed to help ease the troubles. It was then that she felt the pull.
Her mother had explained the pull. Every expectant mother experienced it. She herself had been born in the Temple. Not all lions listened to it, but many did. To be born under Zahina's roof was to be born lucky, or so they say. Her heart lept however, and everything came flooding at her at once. Pregnant?! A mother? Ashoka and Nadine's own little liter just to themselves? Thinking back, she knew it was the day they'd found the caves. Her eyes glazed as she recalled it, but she shook away the daydreams and ran back to the den.
Seeing Ash there, taking his afternoon nap, Nadine couldn't help but pounce on him, yelling for him to wake up.
"Get up you lout! I've got news for you!"

The sun warmed Ash's fur as he napped. He snored happily. Everything was perfect. They hadn't run into any trouble on the way back to the caves and they'd settled down quickly. Food was plentiful and problems were scarce. A smile spread across his face as he rolled over onto his side.
Suddenly, he was jerked from the dream that he'd been having. He opened his eyes slowly and growled playfully as Nadine's face came into focus. He sat up, yawning while doing so. "What's going on?" He asked as he looked around for something...anything that had gotten her so excited.

Without really knowing how to tell him, Nadine decided to come right out and say it.
"I feel the pull.... You're going to be a father!!!" She sat there, having ceased her attempts to wake him up, waiting for his reaction. She was sure it would be positive, but some lions... you just never knew with some. Smiling, she sat proudly on her back legs.

Ash blinked and just sat there. As if the news he'd just heard hadn't really been said. Him? A father? There was no way. As he sat there and looked at Nadine his eyes widened and a big grin crossed his face. He jumped up into a playful pose. "You're pregnant?!" He asked as he started to circle Nadine. "Me? A father?" He smiled at the word as he settled in front of her. "I..can't believe it. A family...of my own blood!" He licked Nadine's muzzle and rubbed against her, purring happily.
Suddenly he pulled back and had a nervous look on his face. "What if I'm not a good father? I've never been around cubs before. What if I do something wrong?" The questions wouldn't stop. His nerves were taking over and they weren't very good in this situation. "What do we do?" He shook his head, as if trying to clear the thoughts from his head.

After the initial silence, Nadine couldn't help but laugh at Ash's sudden happiness then doubts. Of all the lions in the Pride, so far he seemed the best father like one out there. Not that she'd have chosen differently were he not.
"Oh hush you!" She nuzzled back, trying to calm him a bit. "You're going to be a great father and you know it. You may not have been around cubs before, but you're capable enough to learn. It's not as if I've ever had cubs before either." Nibbling his ear a bit, Nadine stopped. Pulling back, her face was a bit stern.
"I want to have the cubs here." She said. She'd decided on the way up to tell him. It was untraditional, but Zahina had shown her the way to this place, and she wanted to have the first liter born there. Besides, its two leaders couldn't possible trek off to the great temple and leave their pride alone. That wouldn't do at all.

Ash's heart still thudded in his chest. On the outside, however, he calmed down a bit. He nipped back at her playfully. "Here? Are you sure?" He asked as he wondered what all was involved with birthing cubs. "If you want to, that's fine." He said as he nodded.

"I know it's not... traditional. I really feel the pull quite keenly now that i'm sure... but i just can't leave the pride, and i wouldn't want to go to the temple without you. We'd have to uproot the whole Pride, and this after just finding a new home. No... i think i will give birth to our cubs in our den, in warmth and a loving atmosphere, without the journeying home with little ones."
Nadine had set it with her 'this is final' tone, and she was sure that Ashoka wouldn't complain. Many lions were traditionalists, but she was lucky to have found one just as free spirited as she was.
Padding toward the den, motioning for him to follow, she began wondering aloud. "I wonder how many i'll have. My mother had 6 cubs in her last liter... that would certainly be a handful don't you think!" Nadine said excitedly, glancing sideways to see Ash's reaction.

Ash nodded at Nadine. She was the one actually having the cubs. If she wanted to stay here and have them. Zahina knows he wouldn't try arguing with her. It was fine with him anyhow. He'd try to make her as comfortable as possible. "They would be a handful on the way back, wouldn't they?" He remarked as he smirked.
Ash followed along beside Nadine as she headed back to the den. His heart stopped and his eyes widened. "S-six?" That was a lot to handle. Not that he didn't want that many, it just made him even more nervous than before. "That WOULD be quiet a handful." He said as he managed a smile.

Laughing at Ash's audible gulp, Nadine plod into their Den. They had brought in some brush to lay on, and it was quite comfortable. Plopping down on some, the lioness sighed.
"So tired... I was so excited just a second ago.. but now i'm just so.... tired..." she yawned at Ash. Curling up into a comfortable position, Nadine was asleep before she could even think of saying anything else. Dreams of cubs came to her, and she smiled in her sleep.
(( i got two cubs coloured, but i didn't get the third done, so it'll have to wait till i get settled into a house in nebraska. i'm thinking around... the 13-14th? possibly. So for now, this is a 'and then so many months later' thread. The next post will be much closer to my due date, or on it. k? =P Unless there is something you want to rp in this thread during such time. In which case, i'll reply as i can ^^ ))

Ash smiled as Nadine yawned sleeply. She was just so cute like this. He quietly moved to lay down beside her. He laid his tail over her body and leaned his head gently against her stomach. He couldn't wait for the cubs to arrive. He'd be the best father that he could be.
(( Uhmm...I can't think of anything I'd want to RP. Next posting being close to Nadine's due-date or right on it is fine. -nodnod- ))

The sun shone through the cave entrance, making Nadine long for its warmth. It's not as if their dwelling were cold, quite the opposite, but her belly had gotten so swollen, she couldn't go very far without dropping from exhaustion. She'd been basically cave confined for the last three or four days, and the cabin fever was starting to kick in.
As she thought of kicks, she suddenly got two very strong ones in her side. Growling low, Nadine turned to see the protrusion of her belly, able to actually see the kicking on her skin. It was unsettling, and the longer she dwelled on the matter the more she thought that perhaps she was more scared of the responsibility than she'd imagined. Inside her were at the very least two cubs. She sensed that well enough, plus her size alone meant more than one. It was indeed happy news, but news that four days of sitting in a cave will make you fret about.
Just as she was about to get up however, sharp pains came from her insides. Pain she had never felt before. Bellowing in pain, she lay back down on her side, pulse quickening as she did so. Fluids began to run out of her, and Nadine gave another yell, this time for Ashoka.

Ash's ears twitched at the distant sound. Unable to wake from the deep sleep he was in he rolled over onto his side, paws immediately and instinctively covering his ears. His tail twitched back and forth as he basked in the warm sunlight. He had come out here to just get some fresh air but the warmth of the light filtering down on him was enough to put him to sleep.
As another, much louder roar entered his ears he shot up. It was Nadine and she sounded like she was in pain. He quickly rose and bound across the smooth stone, his claws extended for extra traction. He burst into the cave just as Nadine's cry for him ended. He quickly went to her side and sat down, nuzzling her muzzle, trying to comfort her.

So much pain. She wanted to claw at her stomach. Feeling Ash there made it a little easier, but she knew this was all her. Everything depended on her. For what felt like an eternity she sat there pushing, Until finally, a bleating could be heard.
Startled, Nadine turned toward the sound. There he was. Their first. Licking his face absently it had seemed the pain might almost go away until there came more.

Two hours later, Nadine finally figured she was finished. Before Ashoka and herself sat three beautiful cubs. The most beautiful ones she'd ever seen to be exact. Licking both them and her mate, she lay back, exhausted from the ordeal. Slowly, each one went to her for suckling. Twitching her ears at the odd sensation, she turned to Ashoka and grinned groggily.
"Whatever shall we name them?" She said, putting her head down, staring up into his large eyes.
((Rping actual child birth, kinda gross =P ))

Ash purred deep in his throat as the last cub appeared. He licked Nadine's damp face as she started to nurse the little ones. The proud lion was now even more proud. He had a family of his own. Three little ones that would one day grow up to be just as strong as their parents. Smiling he laid himself down, able to relax just a bit once more. "How about Theia for the girl?" He asked as the little one stumbled it's way over to him. He laughed at her and how much she seemed to be like him. Licking the little cubs face he leaned against Nadine's side and closed his eyes. Enjoying the sound of little throats purring.

"Theia..." Nadine rumbled, rolling it across her tongue. "I think that'll do just right." Thinking of names, several came to mind for the boys, but with all that had happened, the purring soon put Nadine into a restful sleep. Still purring as she drifted off, the lioness dreamed of her cubs, grown to adults, and each with names.
One lion however, did not seem to want to share his. No matter how much she coaxed, he wouldn't tell. Something about it not being time yet.
Her other son however, the lighter coloured one that didn't particularly take after either of them, came forward and told her his. Blinking, she turned pleadingly back toward the other son, but he had disappeared, along with the others.
Startled awake, Nadine spoke the name 'Honovi' out loud. Staring down at the little ones that now slept at her side, full and content, she purred it once more to the lighter male. "Honovi it will be...."
