It's not very good but it's only the beginning of a 86,500 word story sweatdrop Its a bit of a text wall but it looks better on my document. It's not as good as quality as the other ones on here. sweatdrop
I do prefer the rest of my story, the first chapter isn't that strong...

“Can’t you just make an exception and use your powers on her. She is really starting to piss me off.” Keisha muttered to me, keeping her voice low so no one else could hear it.
I just shot her a dark look, “No, you know I won’t do that.”
I hated it when my friends brought up my powers when they knew that Ryan and me were so touchy about them. It had been a big step actually letting them in on our secret but Ryan had said it would be safe and much easier to make friends and we did need to make some friends.
“I was just joking.” Her brown eyes turned towards me but I kept my distance as usual. “Shaye, are you okay? You don’t seem yourself today.”
The English teacher shot us a silencing look and I welcomed that. I had never liked talking about myself or how I felt, to anyone apart from Ryan. We were the closest twins you could ever come across and I guess some people saw that as strange but people did not know us. They did not know that we needed to stick together.
The bell rang out so I grabbed my jacket and followed Keisha out of the room. It was so much better being in Sixth Form than a bustling high school student rushing around in compulsory education. At least when things went wrong I could go home without being asked questions.
Home… It had never felt like home, more like a horrible prison, which we could not really leave…yet. Grandma Julie was just strange. She was the most peculiar person and most scary person I had met. Ryan agreed with me. We just could not read her and we could read anyone with a touch. It is why we kept our distance from everyone else.
Keisha said her goodbye before walking out the doors to the playground to meet with Darren and Gabrielle to walk home. Ryan and I lived the opposite way so there was no point really walking with them.
“Hey.” Ryan’s voice cut through my thoughts thankfully and I turned to him with a small smile. He was frowning down at me, his green eyes sparking with worry. “What’s up?”
“Uh,” I watched a group of giggling girls turn silent as they walked past us, casting nervous and flirtatious looks at my brother. “I just have a weird feeling. But I’m sure it’s nothing.” We started walking but I could tell Ryan was waiting until we were in safe distance from everyone else until he started asking questions.
As usual, we got the looks from the girls and boys. Ryan was a hit with the girls although he was blind to the fact until I had to point it out to him. He also said the same about me with guys. We were different from everyone else so I guess that got some attraction but Gabrielle, Keisha and Darren had soon told us exactly why everyone looked.
Apparently, we were beautiful, absolutely beautiful in an unearthly way as well. No one human should be that gorgeous, in Gabrielle’s words. To be truthful to ourselves, Ryan and me really did not know who or what we were but…we had a suspicion that we weren’t human. Exiting the building, they took the long route so they could have more time and privacy to talk.
“Shaye, you know that our weird feelings usually mean something.” He said seriously, running a lean hand through his already ruffled brown hair with coppery hints. “So, what do you think that it means? You must have some inkling.”
I bit my lip, crossing my arms over my chest. “I feel…something is going to change soon and I don’t know if I like it or not.”
My brother sighed. “To be perfectly honest with you Shaye, it has seemed weird lately. We have never seen ourselves in a normal job in the future.”
“The future is so close and what have we done? Nothing.” I looked up at the sky sadly. “It really makes me wonder where our lives are heading. There has to be other people like us, there really has.”
“There are and I do believe that.” Ryan’s words made me lapse into silence. I had kind of given up on hope. If there was something out there like us, surely they would have made themselves known? Strangely, even though I knew Ryan and me had powers that no human should have, I did not believe in what he believed, vampires, werewolves, wizards etc.
Ryan and I were special…or cursed; we just could not decide which one. We could touch a person and flashes of their life would appear in front of our eyes. It was horrible some of the things we had witnessed but thankfully not too brutal. Some things we had seen had been pointless happy or sad moments in their lives. When this happened, we had to take a few minutes to calm down from the shaking experience.
It was a reason we never let ourselves get to close to anyone or even touch them. It was hard, especially during group activities when we had been in high school.
But Ryan had an ability I did not have and that was making gaps in the air, like vortexes but we had never trusted to go in them in case we went somewhere we did not want to go. Well, I had wanted to but he did not trust his powers yet.
I also had an ability he did not have, which was summoning items. Not large ones but small ones like lamps, pencils, pens etc. It was very useful.
“Back to the house of hell.” Ryan muttered beside me as we walked towards the yellow door that was supposed to symbolize home. But anywhere with Grandma Julie was not home at all. Every day I wished that our parents had never been in that car accident that killed them. There were so many questions I wanted to ask them.
Had they known about the powers that Ryan and me had gotten at about twelve years old, six years after their death? Had they been like us? I hardly remembered them…and that hurt.
I slipped my key in the door and walked in, knowing Ryan would get them out of the door and place them on the table, ready for tomorrow morning whilst he closed the door behind him. It was the same routine, like clockwork.
There were sounds in the kitchen so I peered inside. Julie was resting against a counter, waiting for the kettle to boil. Smoke curled into the air from her cigarette, travelling towards the light like some sort of snake tamer. I always thought that smoke was pretty to watch, the patterns it created. But I hated the smell and the taste of it in my mouth.
Ryan walked into the kitchen as I slunk back. He poured two drinks, ready to take up stairs for some studying. “Hi Grandma.”
She just grunted in reply, making me just want to hit her. I had no idea why my brother even tried to communicate with her. We had to cook for ourselves, clean the house and do all the chores whilst she went to Bingo or other places. Ever since coming to her house at the age of six she had never uttered a kind word to us. Our parents had just died, her own daughter had died and she never once offered us comfort. I hated her.
Ryan came out again, rolling his eyes and we quickly went upstairs to our room. We shared a bedroom. It was a nice size but a little cramped with both our beds stuffed in, it was a little hard to move around. I exhaled noisily, fed up with everything as usual until I noticed something lying on my pillow.
A letter.
Curiously, I strode over to it, sitting on my bed as a picked up the magnolia envelope. A fancy scrawl was etched onto the front, ‘To Shaye and Ryan.’ My eyes looked up to see Ryan studying the letter warily. He then looked at the window, which was partly open when we had left it closed. Both of us were now worried but kind of excited. I could feel his emotions sometimes as he could feel mine, a good thing about being a twin. Yet, it could be a bad thing when you just did not want to talk.
I slipped the envelope open as Ryan shut the door, sitting by my side, the bed creaking in protest as he placed the drinks on the bedside table. A small piece of paper with the same fancy scrawl laid inside so I fished it out and read it out aloud.
“You are in grave danger, that is all that you need to know now. You do not know me but I know you Shaye and Ryan. You have no need to fear me but you do need to trust me. Soon, men will come to your door, asking for you. I need you two to run. I will find you and bring you to safety.” A pit of dread seemed to open up in my stomach as I finished it off and turned to Ryan.
He was frowning at the paper in my hands and took it, scanning it once more. “I don’t really know what to make of it.” His eyes glanced over at the slightly open window. “Someone has obviously been in here and I truly doubt it is Julie.”
“What do we do?” I asked him, tapping my fingers on my revision books. There were many emotions bubbling inside of me: fear, nervousness and a little bit of excitement. Was this the start of something new…something big? Our lives had not been boring but we were dying to see if there were people like us.
“I have no idea.” He ran his hand through his hair again, unsure of what to make of it.
“What it is true though? We could finally be leaving this place!” I couldn’t help the smile that made its way onto my face. Freedom sounded that little bit closer.
“Lets not get our hopes up too much Shaye. We ought to carry on as usual, or at least try to.” His dark eyebrow cocked up at me, causing me to pout.
I sighed, “Fine, stupid maths revision it is.” Grumbling, I playfully pushed him off my bed and lay across it. I wish something did happen…I hated this place.

Blearily opening my eyes, it took me a while before I realized Ryan was out of bed and peering out of the window. Confusion set in as I sat up, squinting against the darkness. It must have only been about two in the morning perhaps later.
“Ryan?” I whispered, slipping carefully out of the covers.
His eyes were wide as he turned towards me, the moonlight lighting up his bare chest. He liked athletics in school and the girls just loved his smooth muscles. “Shaye, we need to go!” He whispered loudly, quickly padding over to his drawers.
“What? Why?” When I saw him pulling on some clothes, I heard the voices downstairs. Panic set in swiftly, my instinct set me running to my drawers. The night air was cool through our window so I decided to fling on a pair of cut off jeans and a vest top. Ryan was soon dressed in tracksuit bottoms and a vest top.
That’s when I heard the footsteps coming into the hallway, men’s voices rising up. I know I had wished for something to happen but I would have never guessed it would have been this scary.
“Through the window!” My brother started to push me forward but I was nervous.
“I can’t jump down there!”
He shot me a dark look. “Shaye, use your powers!” His eyes darted to the doorway.
I looked out of the window and I was only allowed a few brief moments to think. A couple large mattresses appeared on the garden lawn, ruining Julie’s perfect flowerbeds. I smiled wickedly but that dropped as I heard footsteps start up the stairs.
“Quick!” Ryan’s voice was the trigger I needed to get my act together and jump out of the window.
“Ouch!” I winced as my butt made contact with the mattress and the ground. Ryan soon came sailing down next to me but was on his feet in no time. He helped me up and I looked up at the window.
A man’s furious face was looking down at us, lank hair framing his pasty face. I gasped, my brother pulling my arm sharply. We ran to the garden gate and opening it, we ran out to the front of the house. Another man was waiting for us at the doorway. My heart thudded and I think I almost passed out in fear.
“Shaye!” Ryan shouted before yanking my arm and we disappeared into the fence.
It felt like hands were tearing me in every direction. I could feel myself screaming but I could not hear anything above the screeching of the wind. Everything was black. What was happening?!
There was a loud popping noise and we were thrust forward. The smell hit me first. It smelt like rubbish. Looking down, I saw that we were standing near a large pile of bin bags all open. Grimacing, I turned to Ryan who was looking quite shocked and amazed.
“What did you do? Where are we?” I let go of his hand to look around the dark alleyway, hearing the sound of distant music.
“I…created one of those vortexes. It was our only way out so I had to but I have no idea where we are.” He was biting on his lip.
“Ryan, we didn’t know where they would go to!” I faced him in shock, hands on hips, not believing what he had done.
“Shaye, it was either this or going with those creeps the letter warned us about.”
I shot him a dark look, crossing my arms over my chest. “Well we better find out where we are.” I spun around and walked towards the source of the sound, trying to ignore the dripping of water. On the outside I knew I looked like I knew what I was doing but inside I was a bunch of nerves.
Ryan jogged up to my side and we eventually stood at the metal doorway that was moving slightly with the pulsing music. I opened the door, walking in to the dark corridor, my twin following me. Walking up the corridor, I found myself at a door tilted open with light shining inside. The music was very faint now.
Taking in a deep breath, I pushed open the door and walked in, Ryan close behind, his body very tense and cautious. Beady eyes looked up at us both and it made me feel so small. But they softened slightly, his eyes joining with mine and holding.
“Are ya here for the jobs?” He asked smoothly, running eyes down my body. His voice was an American drawl. I hated him immediately. The chair was straining to hold the man’s weight, a cigar between his podgy fingers.
“Actually…” I started but Ryan interrupted me.
“We were but we were wondering about the details.” Ryan answered quickly, ignoring my frown.
The man looked at both of us. “Well the gorgeous lady will serve at the bar and ya will bring the meals to guests.” His eyes went back to examining me, briefly looking at my brother as well. “You two are definitely something special to come across, perfect for my place.” He clicked his fingers, causing me to cringe. “Do not upset any of the customers, some of ‘em could have ya life at the click of their fingers.”
“When do we start?” Ryan’s words made my body go stiff. This job, whatever it was, was dangerous. We didn’t even know where we were!
“You’re from England aren’t ya?”
“Yes.”
I kept quiet, not wanting to say anything to ruin Ryan’s plan, whatever that was.
“Ya got a place to stay?” His eyes were intent as they joined with mine once more. This man made my skin crawl.
“No, we haven’t.”
“Well ya can have the spare room upstairs. Brother and sister right?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll get ya uniforms sent up so ya can start work straight away. The pay will decide on how well you work.” He held out a chubby hand, waiting for one of us to take it. Ryan stepped up and shook his hand. The man was still holding out his hand, ready for me to shake on the deal as well. Licking my lips nervously, I composed myself and walked over there. As soon as our skin touched, light flashed before my eyelids.

There was a deep rumble of a laugh; the large man smirked down at the helpless girl strapped to the bed. Tears ran down her tanned cheeks, naked body writhing, trying to get away from this man. Her wrists and ankles were bloodied from trying to get free of the leather bindings that were strapping her to the bed. She pleaded with him as he got closer, her throat weak from drugs that had been injected into her only hours before. His own naked body was a grotesque pale shape in the dim lighting of the shabby room. The bed screamed in protest as he climbed on and covered this woman’s body with his own. She sobbed and cried out for help…

I opened my eyes quickly, a sob escaping my lips as I snatched my hand away. Never before had I seen something to horrific. This man was a rapist, possible drug dealer…and who knew what else he had done. His eyes snapped together.
Ryan’s hands took my arms. “Sorry, my sister has had a hard time recently. She needs a small moment of rest.”
“Your work shift starts as soon as you are ready but don't make it too long. I have a business to run. Suzy and Dean will come and get ya. They will show ya what to do.” His eyes looked at me curiously but I looked away. “Go up the stairs down the hallway and its room six. What are ya names?”
“This is Shaye and I’m Ryan.”
“Call me Big D, everyone else does.” I felt sick as he caught my eyes and winked suggestively. If he wasn’t as dangerous as he was, I would be tempted to do something with my powers.
“Thank you.” Ryan and I exited the room, following his directions, neither of us wishing to speak in case we were heard. Room six was soon in front of us, a chipped door with a dirty nameplate. What had we gotten ourselves into?
As soon as the door closed behind us, I faced Ryan angrily. “What have you done? We are now working in a place that we have no idea where it is or what it is! And to make things worse, we are working for a rapist!”
His face dropped, paling. “Shaye did you see that?” His voice was quiet.
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. The images came flooding back, her unheard cries for help echoing in my head. Ryan’s arms wrapped around me, giving me comfort.
“Thanks.” My voice was not as shaky as I thought it would be.
Drawing out of the embrace, I allowed my eyes to roam across the tacky bedroom. There was a large double bed, horribly similar to the one I saw in my vision. The wallpaper, a lighter shade once was darkened by probably cigarette smoke, the paper peeling away from the wall. A closest stood by the wall, looking like it was going to fall apart. I walked over to it and opened it, seeing a long row of woman’s clothing. Who was the owner of these? I did not dare touch them in case my question was answered with another horrific vision.
“Well it is somewhere to stay and hide from those men.” My brother’s voice followed me into the bathroom. There was a shower, toilet, sink and a mirror.
“Yeah, well whoever sent that letter wasn’t there to ‘save’ us. What a good help they were.” I replied sarcastically, looking into the mirror. My loose curls flowed down onto my mid-back, the red light shining through the window coloured my hair. Frowning, my delicate features moved down.
Out the window there was another building opposite but it was in darkness and had no signs on it. I could not see the street below because a long row of dead plants blocked my view. The window would not budge so I turned back to the door.
“I wonder who they were and why they were after us.” Ryan pondered.
Walking back into the bedroom, I tried not to look at the bed. I could not help but yawn. We had gone to bed about nine, exhausted from the constant studying. Had all that been for nothing? “Well they didn’t feel like the police…I felt they had some sort of power.” I paused to think back. “It was a dark power… So there are people like us.”
“Yeah, but we must be dealing with the bad guys with powers. You should get some rest Shaye.” He patted the bed.
I cringed back, not wanting to tell him that this looked like the bedroom I had witnessed a poor woman being raped. “No thanks, I want some answers.”
There was an abrupt knocking on the door. Ryan was on his feet and answering the door in a space of a second. Jesus, he had some speed.
A woman dressed in a skimpy top walked in, a mini skirt that could have been a belt rested on her hips.
A man followed her, wearing a ripped vest top, bare skin showing all over the place along with a very ripped pair of jeans. They were carrying clothes in their hands.
“Hiya, ma name’s Suzy.” The woman had a definite American accent. So, were we in America? Her dyed blonde hair swished around her waist. She must have been about thirty but looking good for her age. “Gawd, you two are gorgeous, what the hell are you doing in this hell hole?”
“Suzy, that is their business.” The man smiled but it was tinted with sadness. “I’m Dean.”
“I’m Shaye and this is my twin brother Ryan.” I introduced us this time, eager to have some friends in this type of place. But what was it?
“Nice to meet ya.” Suzy handed me the clothes on her arm. I took them, careful not to make contact with her skin. I did not want to see what skeletons she had in her closet. There was a skimpy black top and a miniskirt that looked very similar to Suzy’s. I had to wear this?! But Ryan shot me a look, warning me not to say anything. He was holding a pair of ripped jeans and a ripped shirt, exactly like what Dean was wearing.
“We will wait outside for you.” Dean pushed Suzy out of the door, closing it behind him.
“Oh jesus.” I groaned, not liking the way things were going. “So, we are probably in America somewhere, working in some sort of kinky club by the look of these clothes.” I was serving drinks at the bar and Ryan was serving customers their food… It sounded wrong to me.
“As I said before Shaye, we will be safe here for a while. We need to keep our heads low, I know it.” He placed a hand on my shoulder. “I won’t let anyone touch you.”

Um okay...here is the next chapter 3nodding

I looked like a major tart and Ryan kind of looked the same. Yet he wore the outfit like he was made to wear a tight fitting ripped shirt and tight jeans. He had said the clothes had suited me but I had silenced him with a glare.
Now we were standing in the ‘bar/club’ and I was in complete shock. Women strutted themselves on a catwalk or poles wearing only a skimpy pair of panties. But it shocked me even more when I saw some of the women leading men to rooms coming off near the bar area.
Suzy had taken me behind the bar and was demonstrating how to use the pumps and hints on how to impress the customers. Flirting…was not my idea of being safe. I was going to kill Ryan. He was already bringing food to people sitting on tables. Women and men were trying to get his attention, touching his arm.
“So, ready to start darlin’?” Suzy smiled at me. “If ya have any questions feel free ta ask.”
“Okay.” I breathed, my hands shaky. I was tired and wary. Men waiting to be served were already giving me the eye up. I was so tempted to use my powers but before we had left, Ryan had told me not to use them, in case anything happened that could make the men track us.
We were definitely in America; everyone was speaking with the accent. I also knew we were in Jacksonville, Florida because of a sign up behind me stating that, along with an award for something. Great, we had been taken from the South of England all the way to Florida! We had no money, no friends and we were working for a vile man.
“What do you want?” I asked a man who was leaning on the bar. His eyes travelled down to my exposed breasts and I had to fight the urge to slap him around the head. He ordered a shot of vodka and walked off. There were less nice people after him. I got offers to go back to their place but I had to politely decline through clenched teeth. I hated this place so much. The men were queuing up for me to serve them, not brothering with Suzie or the other girl. It was flattering but it made me more angry and stressed.
A tall man sat down in front of me, the club starting to die down now it was getting near time to close up. He shot a flirtatious smile at me but looked quite shocked when I asked abruptly, “What do you want?” His face turned into a leer as he leaned forward grabbing my wrist harshly. I cried out in pain but no one rushed to help me or to fend him away.
“You better be nice to me doll otherwise your dead body will be delivered to me tomorrow.” His grip tightened, tears springing up in my eyes, wanting so desperately to use my powers. Slight images of dead bodies sunk into my mind coming from the man, making me cringe.
“Jacob, don’t be so hard on the girl.” Big D’s rumble of a voice broke through the pain and images, fear taking over. The man released me and stood up, facing the large club owner. “She is new and I don’t want ya damaging the merchandise. She belongs to me so unless ya want to pay for the damage I would leave her alone.”
I would have been a bit thankful if he had not have ruined the moment with the whole ‘owning’ me thing. Jacob snarled and left quickly, leaving Big D to take his place. I was surprised the stool did not collapse with his weight on it.
“So, do I get a thank ya?” His beady eyes joined with mine until they travelled down the entire length of my body, making me shiver.
I forced myself to say the words. “Thank you.” Never before had I been so scared of one person, knowing I couldn’t use any of my powers to save myself.
“Maybe ya can visit me after your shift is over.” His pink tongue slobbered over his thin lips. He made me feel sick.
“Do you fancy a drink?” I asked, trying to get the subject back onto business. God help me, I had a feeling this job will cost me more than I wanted to give.

It was the end of the shift and I had to take out the ‘garbage’ as Suzie had put it. I had always wanted to go to America, and now I was here I just wanted to go back to England. Even if I had to put up with Grandma Julie, I would go back. She was about as scary as Big D come to think about it. I could never get any visions from her and that very fact scared me.
The air was musty and smelly. Dumping the bags, I turned and gasped as I saw four men standing in a circle around me. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I backed away, soon coming into contact with a brick wall. Oh no… One of them stepped forward, an insane grin on his familiar face. It was the man who threatened me earlier on. Something shiny glinted in his hand and I realized it was a knife.
“Hello gorgeous.” He strode up to me, the other men tightening the circle around me. Fear rooted me to the spot, a whimper escaping my throat. “Seems like someone needs to teach you a lesson.” Jacob shoved me up against the wall by the throat.
I cried to cry for help but no sound came out but a wheeze. Trying to squirm free, I realized it was no use.
He let me go but covered me body with his own. I felt weak from exhaustion and pain. My throat felt on fire and I could hardly talk. The knife was at my throat in no time, tears sliding down my face in helplessness.
“Time for you to earn yourself some points gorgeous.” Jacob’s hand ventured up my micromini as Suzy had called it. That caused an instant reaction in my mind. Something cold appeared in my hand and knowing what it was, my hand shot forward.
He screamed out in pain, staggering backwards. My hands were shaking in shock at what had happened and what my own hands had done. The dagger was sticking out of his side, embedded deeply. The men were rushing to his side bar one, who was coming towards me. The door of the club swung open. Relief flooded into me.
Ryan moved too quickly for the man another the other men who had turned to face him. His arms were around me in no time and he dragged me away. We were running down the alleyway, stumbling over bags and bricks.
Suddenly, three men appeared in front of us. They just appeared! I recognized the man with long lanky hair as the man who had been at my bedroom window. We stopped quickly and began to back away. All of a sudden, with incredible speed, the lanky haired man was behind us. There was an excruciating pain in my side as I felt a blade slip into my body and being wrenched back out.
I doubled over, gasping, my throat protesting against the screams that wanted to come out. Ryan swore aloud but before he could do anything, there was a screeching of rubber. A large black Hummer smashed into the two men in front of us, the door opening. Looking back, I realized the other man had disappeared, leaving his colleagues dead under the car.
“Get in,” a deep voice spoke from inside. I responded to it, even through the pain…wanting to see the owner so desperately for some bizarre reason. But Ryan held onto me tighter. Before I could protest, the yanking sensation gripped me once more. Darkness enveloped everything, screeching echoed in my ear but the pain in my side overtook anything that I heard or felt.
Thankfully, the pop came and I slumped against my brother. I couldn’t even moan in pain, my throat rasping. He carefully laid me down on the sandy surface. Focusing my eyes, I realized he had taken us to a beach. The sun was setting on the horizon and I could make out the faint sound of the waves. Great, I was gonna die on the beach.
Everything was starting to go cold and I wondered dreamily if it was because of the setting sun. The pain was starting to subside now. Dimly, I could hear Ryan sobbing, trying to speak to me. How strange it was for everything to end this way…
A bright light filled my fading vision for brief moments before dimming again. Was that an angel? I frowned inwardly. I really had seen everything. I watched as the silhouette of a woman moved closer to me before everything went completely black.

As soon as I regained some awareness I realized that I was not dead. There was a slight pain in my side still and where I was lying, it pressed painfully on my wound. Opening my eyes, my twin’s face hovered in front of me, frowning. I was alive! This sent giddy relief shooting through me and I couldn’t help but smile lightly.
“You know, if you frown too much, you are going to get wrinkles like Julie.” At least my throat was fine now.
Ryan managed a shaky smile, running a hand through his coffee coloured hair. “Thank god you are awake,” he breathed in relief, watching me as I propped myself up in bed. “I lost you for a minute there.”
So I had been dead. My smile fell as I looked at my new surroundings. I was lying on a bed, a bit bigger than the one I had at ‘home’. The walls were made of some sort of wood, as was the floor. Tapestries hung from the walls, looking very old and expensive. It wasn’t highly decorated but it was certainly not boring.
“Where are we?” I bit my lip in worry, welcoming the small pain that distracted me from the ongoing pain in my side. I didn’t need to pull up the skimpy top to see my flesh. The wound was almost healed already.
“Well just before you uh, died, a woman appeared out of nowhere. She took us here and healed your wound. Apparently it was done with an enchanted knife but that was all she said before she left. Well, she mentioned going to give someone a message of our arrival. So, you haven’t been out for long.”
“Oh.” That was all I could pretty much say. “I wonder who the driver was of that car.”
“No idea.” Ryan shook his head in thought, eyes narrowing. “But we couldn’t take that chance of going with him.”
The door opened and a very pretty woman walked in. Her short white blonde hair was spiked up and she wore a long flowing purple dress. Her face widened with a smile as her eyes travelled over Ryan and me. “Nice to meet you Shaye. I am sorry that I had to go off like that but I had to contact the leader of our group. My name is Launi.” She bowed her head down.
“Group?” Ryan frowned again; worry etching over his face.
“Yes, we are the Joero Circle, keepers of the balance of good and evil across the worlds. We are like your government except for the fact we basically look after every world, including Earth,” she explained easily.
I sat there in shock. So, there were other worlds? “Other worlds? Do you mean like Mars and Jupiter?”
“No.” She laughed a little, walking over to us. “We made that illusion as Humans have the tendency to go into panic when they do not understand something. They are the most sensitive of species so we tend to keep our ways away from them.” Launi paused to let the information soak into our minds. “Yes, we are on other planets but we call them worlds, all scattered. There are so many and I am sure you would love to see them. You are on Delome, the largest of all worlds. The place we are in is very beautiful. You can explore it later if you want.”
“Woah, this is a hell of a lot to take in.” Ryan looked at me. “I guess we got our wish of meeting people like us.”
“Oh, you aren’t like anyone else,” the woman answered, causing me to look at her in curiosity.
“What do you mean?” Now I was very confused and so many questions whizzed through my head. I could feel she had powers. That was weird… They even looked tempting.
“Well you two aren’t like anyone else.” Launi looked so excited. “You two are the most powerful beings that were supposed to be sent to us. Well, there was only supposed to be one, who was supposed to marry our leader.” Her eyes joined with mine and my guards shot up.
“Don’t you even say it.” I growled, crossing my arms over my chest. It wasn’t that I wasn’t interested in guys just none of them had seemed right. I had had plenty of offers just…it hadn’t felt right in my heart. I knew I wasn’t a lesbian because I had never been interested in girls.
She shrugged, “It was just what someone once said. But you are more important than marrying Alexei. You need our protection. We have been keeping an eye on you, or rather Alexei has. Thankfully, he kept tabs on you so we knew where you both were. He did try and rescue you from those guys but you saw him as a threat.”
So, the man who she was saying I was supposed to marry had been keeping an eye on us…and he was the man who had been driving the Hummer. Remembering that voice made my heart flip but I soon pulled myself together.
“Who were those men after us? Why were they after us?” Ryan asked the woman, taking my hand for comfort and reassurance.
“They are followers of Ar’drai. She is a very dangerous woman. We declined her of a place in the Joero so she went on a spree and killed three of our members. Since then she has not been found.”
“Why does she want us?”
“Who does not?” Launi replied, eyebrows rising. “Anyone would die to have your power.”
“All we can do is see people’s past. I don’t really class that as very special.” Ryan retorted.
“You can do more than that I am sure.”
“Well I can summon items and Ryan can create vortexes but still…” I pushed away the covers letting go of my brother’s hand. Slipping out of bed, I stretched, my legs starting to ache from lying down.
“Don’t worry, there will be others just some you won’t share like your vision one. After all, you were supposed to be one person.” A frown touched Launi’s face. “I am so sorry but I have to go now. I have a meeting with some of my people.” She bowed her head down. “Xyre looks after this place and he will look after you well. We will all be back and ready to be questioned in a day or so. Be safe.” She left without further ado.
God, I had had so many questions! What about our parents? What about our grandma? What powers had Launi got? What creatures were out there?
“I don’t know about you Shaye but I’m starved.” Ryan stood up and started walking towards the door. “We ought to try and find some food.”
“That I will agree with. I think dying has given me a big appetite.” We walked out of the room and stood in shock and wonder. The hallway was gorgeous, red carpet stretched out across stone floor, more ancient tapestries decorating walls. Statues lined walls. We began to walk down it.
It was cold, goose bumps rising on my bare arms but I rubbed them vigorously. We passed loads of shut doors before we came to a staircase. A man was down the bottom of it, cleaning a statue in the large entrance hall wearing a suit. His face turned up to look at us. He was elderly but only looked in his fifties.
He beckoned for us to come down. I looked at Ryan who was trying to judge the man. He was taking too long so I started down. “Hi, are you Xyre?” I attempted at a friendly smile, wincing as I moved my back, which pulled on my wound.
He nodded his head, eyes going to Ryan who was jogging down the stairs. This man…he had no powers. I couldn’t sense anything about him. Was he human? Did this man speak?
The man beckoned for us to follow him so we did. He led us into a room coming off the entrance hall. A very large dining table sat in the middle of the room and he drew out two chairs. I sat down, Ryan soon following suit. Xyre exited the dining room.
“This all feels so weird. A couple of days ago, we were having a normal school life,” my twin sighed deeply.
“Well, not exactly normal.” I corrected him.
The door opened again and the man walked in with a large platter full of food. He placed it in front of us. My stomach threatened to growl but I quickly placed a hand on it, willing for it to shut up.
“Do you speak?” I asked, trying not to sound impolite or anything. I was just curious.
Xyre shook his head, bowed low and exited once more. Ryan and me were soon tucking into the food. It was all food that we recognized and liked so it was all soon pretty gone. Ryan looked beat as he leant back against the chair.
“Ryan, have you slept at all?”
“Um, no, “ he replied wearily so I shot him a disappointed look.
“Go to bed, you can always explore this place later.” I gently pushed him so he sighed again and stood up.
“I’ll see you later then. And be careful.” He yawned before leaving me. I knew I would feel bad if I left the empty platter here so I picked it up and decided to try and find the kitchen. Walking through many of the doors that led off from the entrance hall, I finally found the kitchen. It looked like an average human kitchen. Placing the platter into the bowl of warm soapy water, I washed it up and left it to dry.
Leaving there, I decided to go upstairs and look at all the rooms. I started where the room I had woken up in, and just found bedrooms, some large and some small, finding myself at the stairs again.
Now it was time to search the other side. These doors were spaced out a bit further. This place was huge! Opening the door, I stood there in amazement. Metal frames attached the walls held rows upon rows of weapons… There were swords, axes, whips, chains, knives and other weapons I did not recognize. It reminded me of my encounter in the alleyway, making me feel dirty. I had stabbed that man. He had been going to…rape me.
I left the room quickly, going next door. It was a large library…very large library. Walking in, I looked at the books on the nearby shelf. They were written in all kinds of languages I didn’t understand. They weren’t any languages I knew. It was an amazing place. I had never been that fond of reading but the books still looked tempting.
Eventually, after a small look around, I left the place and checked out the last room. It was a large bedroom with a huge four-poster bed, chest of drawers, wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. Feeling nosey, I decided to look in the wardrobe. My eyebrows rose in speculation as I came across some large men’s clothes…well, weird looking men’s clothes. This must be that group leader’s room. And I was supposed to marry him?
Ugh, like that was going to happen. I wasn’t a girl who went on looks as I knew that did not work but still, I just hope he did not look like ‘Big D’. My stomach turned at the thought of imagining Big D in those large leather looking clothes.
