Chap 1: Debate
Brittany looked out of the cafeteria window. It was dark outside and the moon was in its crescent phase. She sighed a little, but soon was hit on her arm. She winced. It was more of a punch than a slap. She turned to the blonde girl next to her. Sonya cocked her head to the side, her green eyes boring into Brittanys green ones. "Something wrong?" She asked.
"Other than the bruise you just put in my arm?" Brittany asked, rubbing the spot Sonya just hit. She sighed and looked back out the window, "I just want to experience the thrill of the hunt, you know? They give us these..." she picked up a packet of rough, animal skin, that was sewed together with a thick stitch and was filled with blood, "... imitations. I can't stomach it anymore," she dropped it back onto the tray and pushed it away towards Ashley who grabbed it quickly and dug her fangs into it, blood squirting up into her short brown hair. Brittany flinched, "Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this," she shrugged, brushing back her red highlighted hair, but her side swept bangs still fell in front of her eyes.
Blood Eaters High School is one of the best known high schools for vampires. Its gothic, brick castle exterior with candle-lit hallways and nightime classes made it the perect habitat for teenage vamps that needed to learn the ropes. Every kind of vampire went here. From the mythical ones that were known by any human, to ones that lived exactly like them all except for their diet
issues. Brittany was an American vampire, along with Sonya, Ashley and Danny, her three closest friends. American vampires were the ones of myths with a small twist. The didn't burn to ash in sunlight but only burned badly, like a sun bather that stayed out too long. Silver nor crosses had any effect on them, in fact, Sonya wore a silver cross around her neck, though it was upside down. No one has figured out why they were resistant to silver and the crosses but the teachers claimed they were trying to find out the solution. They indeed had to be invited to houses and they couldn't pass over running water. Water was said to be pure and vampires souls were said to be not, so in the case of cleansliness, all vampires could not pass over any form of moving water no matter how hard they tried. Garlic made them really sick and a stake through their heart parylized them. Usually any vampire could heal a wound of theirs because their body tries to stay the same as it looked when the vampire died. If someone puts a stake in a vampire and leaves it in, the body can not heal there fore parylizing the vampire until it can.
Some of the other vampires thought of themselves as smarter, evolved vampires and usually didn't intermix. Usually. Once in a while you would see a bunch of Translyvanian vampires and maybe one or two American but only because after a few years the have learned to put differences aside. The point of Blood Eaters High School was to take the kids out of their parents hands -vampire or human- and teach them important things such as how to defend themselves from Vampire Hunters, how to befriend werewolves if ever the need and how to
discreetly take blood from a doner. All of these usful things but Brittany thought after a few years she was just learning the same things over and over. She wanted to leave now, go into the real world, see if she could live on her own.
"Well... we still have things to learn. I'm getting excited about the werewolf moon cycle," Ashley smiled her chin dripping with blood.
Brittany raised her eyebrows, "So? They change on the full moon, whoop- dee- doo." She tossed Ashley a napkin and leaned back in her chair, adjusting her square- neck line shirt so it wouldn't show her bra.
Just after she fixed it, one of the other American vampires that was passing by their table, stopped and smiled, showing his fangs, "You showing?"
"How about... ... no," Brittany smiled slyly, leaning back again so she cracked her back against the head of the chair. He bared his fangs playfully and leaned against the stone table.
"Okay shows over babe," Sonya waved her hands, "Move it along."
Ashley giggled and held out her hand, "That'll be five bucks," She wiggled her fingers for emphasis.
"How 'bout you come to my dorm after for a full show?"
The girls looked at Brit whose expression made it look like she was actually thinking about it, "Aw I'm sorry, already got someone on my list tonight. You'll have to wait," she shrugged. Seeing her tactic, the girls laughed at the boywho hissed and walked away.
"Like I've never heard that one before!" Sonya yelled after him, leaning on Brittany laughing.
"Oh my god I'm gonna have nightmares now! The pervert hissed at me!" Ashley faked eyes of horror, making them laugh even harder.
A bow with curly red hair sat down next to Ashley with his own plate, one of his eyebrows raised at the scene in front of him. He bit into his sack and took some sucks of blood, "What'd I miss?" he asked, putting it down and wiping his mouth.
Sonya shook her head, sitting up and wiping her eyes, "Nothing, you had to be here."
"I'll fill you in later," Brittany smiled and threw her hair up in pigtails, giving Danny a fangy smile. He smiled back, nodding and biting into his sack again.
Sonya laughed, "Guess what we were just talking about?" She asked. He looked up and shrugged, finishing up his lunch, "About how much Brittany wants to get out of this school and experience being a vampire in the 'real world'." She crossed her arms and leaned forward, "What do you think about that?"
Danny set his empty sack down and scratched his head, "Well... I don't know. She's gonna get out eventually. She's got about... what two more years?" "Hello? She's right here and she can hear you." Brittany pouted, "They haven't given us hunting lessons yetwe've never done a field lab. How are we suppsed to experience what its like out there?"
"Thats why you shouldn't go," Sonya argued, "you've never experienced whta could happen in the real world, whatever may be to you. If you went out now you could die."
"What more could there be to killing a human? Crack the neck, drug him, catch him when he's sleeping? There isn't much to it, they're weak."
"There are vampire hunters out there Brittany. How do you dodge them? They have training sessions, Dukess Karpem told us, don't you remember? They know what to look for in a vampire."
Danny held out his hands, "Guys don't get into a fight about this okay? Brit, if you really want to leave, wait maybe another year okay? Talk to a teacher about it."
The girls looked at him, then at Brittany who finally hrugged, "Whatever, not like I have to listen to you anyway." The bell rang for the end of lunch and she got up, throwing her tray away and walking to her class.
