In march 20th 2008..the Prophet's birthday..Mohammad(PBUH)..I mean we celebrate his birthday..not with candles and things..but with al-du'a, reciting verses from the Qur’an al kareem, telling the story of the Prophet’s birth (PBUH), teaching religious knowledge and slaughtering animals (it don't have to be animals..it can be clothes and etc..) to feed the poor...now..my question here..is it okay to celebrate the prophet's birthday..or al mawlid al nabawi al sharif..?

I never celebrated that... And i think it's not right.
But ofcurse it's good to give money to the poor, and to do dua'h.

Sounds like the Muslim version of Christmas (and by that I mean people who believe that Jesus's birthday was on Christmas day)
Yes, I am a flaming Muslim...but Allah loves me!

Someone told me that it was haram. And that sunni muslims celebrate it.
It's like celebrating your own birthey.

It's like celebrating your own birthey. no its not... every body celebrates it.... we do it like we collect groups of people from different mosques and then we walk along whole of the city and sing religious songs and NAATS... and yes i wanted to add that our Holy prophet's birthday and death aniversery is one the same day but Allah says to be happy cause our HOLY PROPHET MOHAMMAD just left the BODY but his soul is still alive in the paradise.. so we be happy...

It's like celebrating your own birthey. whats wrong with it?? the prophet is still same with us human.... the birth n death of the prophet prove that he is human just like us...choose by the only one god to be given a special "assignment" n given special privilege but still rasulullah face hardship like a Man would... this proven...the only power is ALLAH SWT........the only god...n Muhammad is His messenger chosen among us human this protects us from the same misconception of Jesus is son of god or god itself....
