I'd like your help testing out a system. It was born out of my frustration with the slowness of gaia DnD. Ideally, it should speed up play-by-post a lot, combining flexible game mechanics with some light dice rolling (d6 only.) It should also allow games to be as open-ended or as dungeon crawly as the players/DM want, and can even be fully converted into an RP-style.
Of course, there are still one or two bugs in the system that need to be play-tested out. For that I'm going to need a few brave souls willing to venture with me on an introductory campaign. You guys are up for that, right?
If you're interested, PM me a character bio of 40 words (or slightly less. thirty six and up are okay, but they shouldn't go much lower than that.)
For the record, this isn't DnD, but you can use DnD characters here. Just don't go rolling up a character sheet just yet.

okay, doesn't look like there's a lot of interest here, but I'm leaving it up anyways. If anyone's ever interested in trying a dice/game mechanics light sorta system, let me know.

From the shadows comes a little bird The darkened finch would like a word "Environment is what we need, Creativity's hard without guidlines you see" The shadowy bird then flits away To await your answer another day
Long story short, I was kind of expecting a bit more of a description of the world this was to take place in...Otherwise you're liable to end up with Davey Jones fighting Emporer Palpetine for rule of "My Little Poneyland". Comical yes, but more fit for a webcomic or youtube video than an RP.

Actually, this system works best if I get a list of characters first. The game tends to be pretty character driven, so I was hoping to get character concepts first and then build a scenario around them.

Well essentially I would join. But i would want to run kind of a Quincy type if you watch bleach.
If you dont watch the anime, this is the main abilities...
They can manipulate spirit energy. Essentially its a form of a Psion.
All of thier weapons are Ranged Weapons.
Prime Examples..
A Spirit Bow is a Composite Longbow made out of Spirit Energy and fires blasts of charged spirit energy. By D20 rules it would be a Composite longbow that fires arrows of Searing Light. (See Spell in PHB)
The base damage would be (1/2 Clvl)d8 up to 5d8 against living and objects. Clvld6 vs undead up to 10d6 and Clvld8 vs undead weak against sunlight up to 10d8.
This is improved with Battle Accessories. Such battle Accessories would include...
A Battle Glove. Gives the Quincy a Fighters BaB
Battle Pendant. Gives the Quincy a Fighters BaB Gives the Quincy 1 extra attack per round if fighting ONLY 1 target.
Spirit Blade Useable as a Shortsword dealing Searing Light damage in melee. Can be fired to deal double damage.
7 of them can be used as a 3 round action that provokes an attack of opportunity to deal 10x damage. This requires a 30 foot ring to be made of 6 of the 7 blades in the ground. The 7th blade must then be fired and hit the target in the center of the circle. It deals 10x damage as a burst from the center of the circle going out 30 feet.
The blades cost 30000 and must be charged to use. They are ONLY useable by quincies.
There is also a skill known as a flash step. I would recomend doing this as a skill trick. For every 2 skill points put into the skill trick the wielder gains 10ft per day as an immediate action. This is a teleport similar to the variant found for the wizard in the PHB 2.
Does this sound like a do-able character.
If not then I would like to run a pure Favored Soul.

Certainly a doable character. As I've written earlier, any concept is fine. Plus, I've watched Bleach and Quincys are pretty rockin'.
Unfortunately, all the energy you put into modifying one for a D20 system is a little redundant. The system that I'm planning on using has a much looser rule set, and uses different dice to boot. Which is part of the reason why any character concept at all is okay.
If you're still interested, please write up a 40 word character bio. Try not to make it too specific about any one detail, but include in it any important things that you want your character to have. The character's name does not count towards the word limit on the bio.
(oh, and just for reference, the character concepts that people submit will make a big difference on the way I set up the game world, so if a lot of people want something Bleach-y, I could run with that.)

Name: Nailo Age: 26 Origin: USA Height: 5'11" Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Background: An outcast growing up, Nailo, (born under the name Jason Wier), was very interested in the old religions. He studied Zen Buddism, Druidism, Hinduism, the ancient religions of Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and even the Native Americans. Durring one of his school projects he learned he was a direct descendant of the Ghengis Khan.
About his senior year of high school he realized his ability to draw energy from around him and focus it into his palm. After 7 long years of practice he was able to focus the energy into the tip of his finger. From there he can launch the energy out. He has two forms of this attack. A high speed low damage form that he refers to as his spirit bow. The second and more deadly form he calls Armageddon. His Armageddon form he has learned leaves him drained for several days, but is powerful enough to leave a hole 10 feet deep for a 10 foot radius through solid stone.
To date he searches for a means to boost his abilities and find a purpose for them. He also tinkers around with a way to technologically empower his abilities to make them stronger.

Excellent. I'm still waiting for more characters, but it looks like Nailo can work with just about any modern setting.

Can work with a non-modern setting as well. technology has been around for AGES. and the actual religions and areas can be fudged to others. that was more for flavor and definition of aquisition of abilities.

Good point. I'll keep that in mind when I'm designing the setting. Maybe something retro-modern would be good, like a Tokyo with cram schools, computers, and giant swords...
Hmm. Depends on what other kinds of characters join the game.
Also, the original system that I was going to use had an extremely simplified combat system. I've gotten the impression that you like more complex systems for combat, Naryssa, so I was wondering if I should try to modify it a bit.

I was just figuring simple....
Basic Spirit Bow-- Xd6 dice. X = 1/2 character level. Minimum of 1. Range 110 feet
Basic Nuke attack
Xd6 damage X = Character level. Unable to use nuke attack for 1 week. Reduced to 1 attack per round for 1 week.
But if thats too complex then you can easily simplify it. biggrin

Actually, the original combat was simplified beyond that. No checks unless the GM calls for one, and those that are called for are fairly rare.
So, yeah. I'll be tweaking that system to allow for a slightly more dice-inclusive combat.

I've got the system on a reasonably sized microsoft word document, so I could simply e-mail it if you want. I'm not sure what Gaia's take on actually posting e-mail addresses is, so probably PM-ing it to me would be best if that's what you want to do.
As far as using it for Star Wars, it should adapt to the world no problem. The only problem is that it's designed with more of a story-telling than a numbers-gaming focus in mind, so I dunno how it'll fit with your usual DMing/gaming style.
