Scene: (Back home: A flower that has not yet blossomed awaits with a note beside it from May.)
(With May: May writes in her magical journal about her whereabouts and what she is going to do while waiting to reign over spring)

Dear Journal,

Hello again it's May. Soon it will be my time to reign over spring again. Since April is bringing showers to spring I must bring the flowers. So I am off to look for something new this spring, something no one has ever seen before, a new breed of flower from a new breed of sunlight. I will journey away from home to find a new spring; my journey won’t take more then thirty days and until then I will be away finding a new light in another land. I hope to find a magical land.....a land like no other....which has a rainbow of colorful flowers, with pedals so beautiful and soft. I hope to find a sea of flowers stretching in the wind while the sun gazes upon them, as they smile with so much love. Don’t worry, I will write to you every chance I get to tell everyone of my progress. No one really knows that I have gone but I left a note near a beautiful flower that will blossom on my return. I will be home soon with this new found light and bring a more beautiful spring that no one has ever seen before.

Secrets hidden until then…

~May

A small, pixie-like foot padded down on top of a teal-tinted bud with the lightest of touches, and the petals seem to glow under the footfall. There was a shudder from the small flower. The spritely foot hopped away, and the petals opened slowly into a beautiful blue-green flower, practically glowing new in the warm sunlight.

A flutter of wings, and the owner of the foot held herself up to look at her work. It was none other than May, the third of the Spring Sisters, working her magic about the fields. She smiled and went about her job, now hopping from bud to bud in a game of mid-air hopscotch. They all unfurled in a trail after her.

She let out a small giggle that sounded like the tinkle of tiny bells, had any ears been around to hear it. The mere touch of the fairy-like Hamu had the power to blossom any flower. 'Twas her job to bring beauty to flowers after all, and this ability made it easier and a lot more fun!

May hovered for a moment over a particularly large bud of a hue that matched her own. She flitted down very carefully and with a loving lightness, kissed the petals right at the very tip of the unopened flower. The flower unfurled underneath May, spreading out beneath her like the arms of a loved one.

May sank very carefully down into the fresh center of the newly-opened flower. Her dragonfly-like wings scattered a few bits of pollen into the air as she landed. One came to rest in her palm and the purple sister began playing with it as if it were a ball, rolling it between her paws. Her job wasn't done yet, but her small wings needed a rest for a moment. She still wasn't used to flying after being asleep for so long...

She leaned back to look at the blue sky, spotting a fluffy cloud casting a shadow on a small part of the field. It reminded her of her sister, April, and the blustery storms that she conjured up every so often. It made her miss her family...

No time for rest then! May then began fluttering her wings once again and let the pollen fall away from her dress. The sooner these flowers were all opened, the sooner she could reunite with her siblings! ...But of course, if she rushed, she wouldn't have fun with her annual job! May began her game of hopscotch again, leaving another trail of blooming flowers in her wake.

I hope this isn't too wordy. I was just havng fun with it.

Gather round, gather round. Today I shall tell you a story about the three spring sisters: March, April and May and the beginning of their tasks to bring spring. This story starts at a little cottage in between two mountains in the early morning where a little green pixie was screaming at the top of her tiny lungs.....

"MAY!!!!!!!!!"screamed a little green hamham with dragonfly wings and spikey short hair as she trudged around the tiny cottage peering into every room. Nobody here, nobody there, where was her purple little sister? The green pixie whose name was April finally gave up and plopped herself on one of the front stair steps, sighing deeply. Where could May be? It would do no good for April to just sit there and do nothing. She walked over to the side of the little cottage where her big sister, March was.

"Haiiiiiya!"shrieked a cream colored hamham doing a midair karate chop. Her short fiery red hair swooshed behind her like a second shadow. March did another set of complex punches, kicks and swerves.

April blew her bangs from in front of her face and she rolled her eyes. Her sister could be a little too athletic. March had insisted practicing karate and other forms of fighting techniques everyday at dawn. April took a deep breath and called,"March!"

March continued with her complex pattern as if she couldn't hear April. After few punches and kicks, she finally stopped and took a large gulp of Gatarode that was on the ground nearby. "Jack Frost has no chance on betting me next year, not like he ever 'had' a chance. Well, it is still good to practice."said March happily. After awhile, she noticed that April wasn't commenting. She peered at her sister, April, sweating and taking deep breaths. April seemed to be very nervous and worried. "What's up?"asked March raising an eyebrow.

"What's up?"said April doing a hysterical laughter,"May has gone missing and all you can say is 'What's up?' I bet you are the best big sister ever!"said April sarcastically.

March stood there stunned, her jaw wide open. She was going to reply 'the sky' when April had told her that May had gone missing. Finally, she managed to stutter,"You...have...got to be kidding me!"April shock her head. March chewed on her lip nervously and took a deep breath before saying,"She must have been kidnapped by Jack Frost! He must have been mad that he had lost to me again, now he must be holding May ransom so that he can exchange her for taking over the world for another winter!"

April rolled her eyes, her big sister could be a little over imaginative and thickheaded sometime. She took a deep breath and said,"It couldn't have been Jack Frost. You know as well as me that he is still residing in the South Pole Hospital from all the injuries you caused him during the last fight. From what I heard, you gave him several broken ribs, a broken jaw, leg and arm as well as countless bruises. Remember that the hospital people had to use CPR to revive him? May must have wondered off herself......"

"Oh, I knew that.....I have spy cameras placed all around him....."muttered March as she contemplated the matter and April rolled her eyes again. Finally, her face brightened and said,"Well, we better start looking for her then!"

April was shaking with contained rage as she struggled to reply,"That was what I was doing....."She struggled to not say the word 'idiot'. Seriously, sometimes March could be really really hard to work with. April took a deep breath and continued,"Come on, help me find her. May isn't in the cottage, so she must have wondered off to one of the nearby woods or something."

So with that, the two sisters spread out to continue trying to find their little sister. After a few minutes which felt like hours, April heard a shout of surprise from March. She quickly spread her dragonfly wings and flew over to her sister. March was standing before a stretch of forest. It was all normal but for a trail of beautiful spring flowers blooming. April gasped amazed.

"Don't tell me that May has turned into Aphrodite!"shrieked April stunned. She had recently read a book about greek mythology, and was utterly obsessed with it.

"Aphrodite? Isn't that the goddess of love? What does that have to do with our sister?"asked March with an eyebrow raised. April was always a bit strange to her sometimes, kept on babbling about nonsense that she had read in books.

"Aphrodite. Yes, she is the goddess of love. When she was born, she left blooming flowers in her footsteps."said April nodding, not noticing that March wasn't paying attention what so ever.

"Whatever. Let's just go find her!"said May as she spread her wings to follow the trail with out squashing the precious flowers. April followed her peering around curiously. Could this have been May? March and April had special powers and abilities aside. March had strength and agility. April had the power to let rain fall. She had found this out when she was reading 'Romeo and Juliet' and in the end when both lovers died, she had cried. Surprisingly, it had started to rain outside. Eversince then, April had been experiencing with her powers. She could make little showers from big down pours be just thinking something sad or something very very happy. But from all these ages, there was no sign that May owned any magical powers at all. Could this be it?

A sound of clear singing shook April from her thoughts. She looked ahead, there was a flash of purple among the trees and the trail of flowers were ending. April let out of a cry of joy as March and herself sped to hug their youngest sibling into a midair hug.

"Oof!"cried May as she had been suddenly attacked by furballs of cream and green. She had just been singing to the flowers and watching them grow as she walked through the forest. She looked at the two hamhams that had hugged her. It was her sisters, March and April. May gave them both a dazzling smile and said,"What are you two doing her? How did you find me?" Not that May was upset that her sisters had come, but she had wanted it to be a surprise so that when March and April looked towards the forest, it was full of flowers.

"We were looking for you of course! You had disappeared and we had no idea where you were. As for how we found you, did you notice that you are leaving a trial of flowers behind?"asked April angrily. After that happiness that had flooded her when she had finally found her sister, there was anger that her sister had gone off on her own without notifying her sisters. "You could've died! You could've had an accident! Then March and I wouldn't be there to help you!"said April rattling on.

May twitched her antennae annoyingly, she wished that April would stop treating her like a little baby. She said,"But didn't I leave you two a note?"April retorted with a hotly NO. May scratched her head nervously, she was scared of her second oldest sister when she was in her temper, and finally said,"Well, I thought I did. I was thinking of surprising you two with the forest covered with flowers, but I guess I should have told you two. Then you probably wouldn't have worried to much.....I'm sorry."Then, May did her puppy eyes. March snickered in the background, nobody could resist May's puppy eyes.

April's face softened, it was impossible to resist her little sister's puppy eyes. She sighed and said,"Fine, I forgive you this once, only once, you hear me? You better not do that again or you would wish that you had never been born."April noted that May had gulped with her eyes wide. She nodded grimly and continued,"Well, since we got that over. Let's bring spring!"said April cheerfully. From her once pretended sorrowful face that May had kept to make sure that her older sister give her any punishments, she immediately jumped up happily and bounced happily around. They helped bring spring from forest to forest, field to field, all over the world.

Thus, March, April and May were called the spring sisters. March would have the job of beating winter and Jack Frost which I must note that she did all in pleasure. April let the rain fall to soften the soil for the plants that were soon to grow there. Finally May sang and called to the plants, grass and trees and they responded in blooming flowers, bright green leaves and bright green grass. Spring swept the lands singing songs of joy bringing smiles to everybody's faces.

The End

((I hope that that wasn't too long. ^^; I enjoyed writing it greatly, it was fun creating the three sisters' personalities. <333 Ah well, enjoy!))

MAY'S SPECTABULOUS ADVENTURE

“I should get May to wash up for dinner…”, said April. “I wonder where she is. She’s usually running around trying to see what we’re doing.”

“Well go look for her.”, said March dryly.

“Why don’t you look for her?”, questioned April.

“Because I’m your older sister and I’m telling you to go look for her.”, replied March.

“Awwww. May always gets into situations that make me work.”, whined April.

April starts scurrying off to find May. She really needed to put a leash on that girl. Always getting her nose out of line. Little sisters can get away with anything., thought April.

Meanwhile, May is having an uninteresting time.

“Sigh. I’m sooo bored!”, cried May.

As the youngest of the spring sisters, she had to wait the longest to spread her flowery-joy. Spending time rolling around in the cool, crisp grass will not satisfy some. May is one of those few. Her sisters think that she likes to tail them because she looks up to them. All she wanted is to find out their plans for spring so she could think of something better. Being the youngest always brought her grief. Elder hams had told her that she messed things up for her sisters. While her sisters are away, busy with their own spring plans, she sneaks as well as any ham ham can out into the blossoming world.

“Hmm. I could go and see what would need prettifying so I can plan ahead of time to make everything as beautiful as possible!”, exclaimed May. “After all, I have to make sure that spring end with a great finale and beat my sisters!”

The ever cheerful May carefully took note on what her sisters have missed so far. She knew that her sister April would be taking over soon, but it didn’t hurt to make sure. As she waddled along, she saw that the vines around the trees would be perfect as spring decorations to brighten up the dull trunks. She would pick out purple and pink lilies to sprout from the vines.

That’ll be good, she thought. “Now. What can I do to as my grand finale?”

She thought long and hard while sitting down on a mushroom. A flock of larks flew by singing their song of spring. That’s when it clicked.

“Aha!”, she squealed. “I shall composed a spring concerto! One where the birds of May will twitter and display aerial demonstrations that flow with the music!” May giggles like an overjoyed infant that has found a new toy. “All the other seasons will see that spring is the most beautiful of them all!”

Satisfied with her plans, May ran towards the direction she thought her home was. Boy was she wrong. She ended up in the darkest part of the forest. Scared and hungry May slowly and carefully walked on, desperate to see her sisters again. She had gotten lost again. She wanted her sisters to find her. She thought of what the Elders would think. They would say that she was an embarrassment to her season. May stopped and put on a brave face.

“I will not be scared. I don’t need my sisters to finds my way home!” exclaimed May.

May sniffed her way through the forest and eventually found a recognizable place. It was where she was lying the grass being bored out of her mind. April came plodding slowly towards her.

“Where were you May?”, asked April. “You made me come and find you!”

“I just took a walk.” replied May, smiling with the excitement of her reign. She skipped off quickly to home, leaving her sister in curiosity.

As April grumpily marched back, March waved at her.

“I see that you’ve found May.” said March.

April glared at her sister and grabbed something to eat.

Prompt #: 2
Entry: It was a deep and dark December. The trees were bare, the springs all frozen, and snow covered the landscape. Darkness set in early, and was slow to leave, so the hamus spent most of their time sitting in a circle around a hot, blazing fire, telling each other tales to keep their spirits up. All the eggs were gathered nearby, wrapped tight in blankets, and the little hamhams kept nagging the elders for more stories. One of them, in particular, seemed unsatiable.
"Iffy, you really should go to sleep now" - said his mother, slightly tired by the youngster. "I will, I will, I just want one more story!" "You've been up later than you should, anyways. Go to sleep now." "But how do you know it's later? This darkness, it never changes." "It will, come springtime. But go now." "Springtime? What's springtime like?" - Iffy asked, who had only hatched in October. "Well, it's different. There's more light, and it's warmer, and there's flowers and birds, and leaves on the trees... but didn't I tell you to go?!" "Aw, please, tell me more about spring, Mom! It sounds so nice and sweet! Why is it gone?" "Because... Well, it's a long story. I will tell you, but only if you promise you'll go to sleep afterwards." "I promise, I promise!" "Okay then. This is how it all began..."

Once upon a time, there were three sisters, called March, April and May. They were all both beautiful and magical, and it was their task and their joy to spread beauty and warmth around the world. They dressed up the meadows and the forests in green leaves and colourful flowers, taught the birds to sing, and made the springs rush with crystal clear water. The world was young back then, and the hamhams loved the sisters for what they did. It was the first spring of the world, and the first summer was waiting to happen. Now, as you will see yourself, while all three of the sisters are powerful, and the world needs the work of all of them to turn the wheel of the seasons, it is May whose job is the hardest, and she works the most out of them. This was the very first spring, though, so she wanted to make it even more special, even more fabulous, something that the world will never forget. She worked so hard to prepare everything for summer that she barely slept, she barely ate, she hardly ever rested. By the middle of her month her wings were almost see-through, her hair was fuzzy and unkempt, and her cute little dress was all torn and dirty. Her sisters of course tried to talk to her, but she wouldn't listen. "I have a job to do, and I will do it" - she kept mumbling, and soon she would find herself dozing off while flying about. One day, she was simply gone.

March and April buzzed around everywhere, and asked all the hamhams for help, and soon they found poor little May, sick and fevered from exhaustion, lying asleep in a meadow. One of her wings was broken, probably from falling down while trying to fly. She was weaker than a newly hatched hamu, and didn't wake up for two days. Her sisters kept feeding her hot soup, brought her fresh spring water, and did everything in their power to nurse her back to health, but it took a forthnight for May to finally get well enough to take walks on her own, and even then, although her wing was already mended, she was far too weak to fly.

And so it was that summer came, and as June arrived, freshly brought into the new world, she was horrified at what she saw. Without May's tending, all the buds had withered, all the flowers had shed their petals, all the growth was stunted. The springs and rivers were still rushing about with their load of molten snow, carving out bigger and bigger beds for themselves, washing away the fertile soil, for there was no growth to take up all the water they brought with them. The bright hot sun was parching the land, for there were no tree leaves to provide shade. All the creatures of the land were finding it hard to find food for themselves, because nothing would grow, and all the young ones born in the spring were sickly, and their parents were worried.

June saw not only that it was beyond her power to mend the situation, but also that it would grow worse with each passing day, so she asked for the help of the Gods. The Gods saw what had happened, and because they understood that May was only overzealous to do a good job, they agreed to help. The world was brought to a state where June could do her job, and although May was sure she would have done a better job if only she hadn't fallen sick, she also had to listen to a stern lecture about spending her strength so vainly. "Don't be vain, May. The world needs the work of all twelve of you, and needs all of you equally. If you try to take the laurels away from June, you will only end up overtaxing yourself, and bring great peril to the world. Sometimes you will do a better job, other times you will do worse, but that will be true of all of you. It's nothing to worry about, though, since you all have all of eternity before you, and you will always be remembered for your shining works, not your mediocre ones. Go now, and rest, and we'll see you again in eleven months' time! Make sure you don't bite off more than you can chew next time though." And with that, they were gone.

"And ever since then, the Spring Sisters are resting all through the year to regain their strength for when their time comes again. You will see what a wonderful job they do, but until then, enjoy winter, for it is also needed - the land needs to rest, and you can play around in the snow, and watch the twinkling stars. Now go to sleep, because if you don't rest, you'll end up like May, and fall sick!" "Mhmmm" - Iffy nodded sleepily, already curled up in a ball next to his mother, covered by a blanket. "I wonder what May is like..." - and with that, he fell asleep, dreaming of a beautiful everyoung hamu flying around the fields on violet wings, her laughter falling like pearls.

Prompt #: 2
Entry: I sat by the window and watched the drops of rain pelt downwards from the heavens. What was taking April so long? All she had to do was make it rain. Why did that have to take an entire month? I sighed, exasperated, and shut the blinds.

I was sick and tired of April. March, too. Every year it was the same, old routine. They got to go out and have all the fun while I sat at home, waiting. I didn’t want to sit there and watch any more rainy days pass me by. I just wanted it to be my month already. When was it going to be my chance to shine?

I was relieved when it was finally late enough for it to be acceptable for me to go to bed. It took me a long time to fall asleep. The rain was loud and disrupted my thoughts. I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight, when the rain had subsided into a gentler drizzle, and even then it was a light, restless sleep.

When I awoke, sunlight assaulted my eyes. I turned over and pressed my face into my pillow with a groan.

“Maaaayy!!” A voice, not far off, called.

“Go away.” I muttered, wanting to go back to sleep.

“Wake up, sleepy-head!” The voice was in my room now. I recognized the voice to be that of my sister, April. She was the last person I wanted to see right now. I ignored her.

“Come on, May! Don’t you know what day it is?” April asked, plopping down on my bed and forcefully turning me to face her.

“No, April. What day is it?” I replied reluctantly. April’s lips rose into a mischievous smile.

“Hm…I thought you of all people would know. Oh, well. I guess I’ll just keep making it rain until it floods and the tornadoes will get worse and the world will just have to make due without flowers this year.” I gasped. April let out a low chuckle at my shocked expression.

“It’s May 1st?!” I jumped out of bed and flew to my calendar. A shriek of joy escaped my lips when my suspicions proved correct. Another chuckle alerted me to March’s presence. I was so exhilarated that I simply left my sisters in the dust without another word.

I flew at top speed singing the song of spring, urging the flowers out of their tentative state.

“I'm shouting
I'm singing
I'm swinging through trees
I'm winging sky-high
With the buzzing black bees.
I'm the sun
I'm the moon
I'm the dew on the rose.
I'm a rabbit
Whose habit
Is twitching his nose.
I'm lively
I'm lovely
I'm kicking my heels.
I'm crying "Come dance"
To the freshwater eels.
I'm racing through meadows
Without any coat
I'm a gamboling lamb
I'm a light leaping goat
I'm a bud
I'm a bloom
I'm a dove on the wing.
I'm running on rooftops
And welcoming spring!”

As I sang, flowers burst forth and bloomed before my eyes. I sang with joy as I let the whole world know that May had come.

MAY

Username:PirateCandy
Prompt #:1
Entry: After attending to the final remnants of the remaining snow from the previous winter, April scoured the fields for signs of her sister, May. The grass was damp and gave off an earthly smell, and May was due soon to take care of the flowers. No doubt she was off somewhere else, slacking off and not paying the least bit attention to the uncovered ground to which she had been assigned. Although kind and caring to those around her, May always had the tendency to fly off into a world unknown to others, her eyes misting over with a type of sad wistfulness. It was reveries like these that March and April knew best not to disturb her.

Still, the daydreaming girl had a job to be completed, and April would be perfectly willing to deal out some strict punishment if the objectives were not met on time. March and April had tediously spent their time ensuring that the climates were under control, and the deadline for the start of spring was nearing. This year, Jack Frost had not been particularly cooperative, causing March to spend more days and nights negotiating with him. When both sides were finally satisfied with their side of the deal, the time for April’s showers were weeks overdue. This was quickly followed by a panic attack from April, who hurried to catch up, many times pulling an all-nighter to speed up the process. For the rest of the world, these were bleary, grey times, for the sun only shone when April stopped to take a rest.

In her haste, April had managed to get the showers finished, creating a little bubble of extra time. But the bubble would soon pop, and May would then also have to resort to sleepless nights to pull off her duty. But if she doesn’t...., April shuddered at the thought of being too late. She knew very well what would come about if Spring did not arrive on time: an extremely angry, thunderous lecture from Mother Earth herself, who was already frustrated with the case of global warming. The floods, typhoons, and hurricanes of today’s modern world have been the result of Mother Earth’s disappointment with her subordinates. Not to mention the earthquakes, volcanoes, and other natural disasters that have wreaked havoc on all animal kind.

Oh, it would be a very dark day indeed if flower sperm did not float into the air to tickle the sensitive noses of children and adults everywhere. A very dark day indeed, for Mother Earth, although once clean, young, and beautiful, had, over time, slowly begun to deteriorate into a disheveled, but still rather graceful, sadistic woman. She had become highly amused by the new creatures that had spouted up onto her planet, who industrialized her body and made good use of the resources she provided them. She was especially humored by the simple means of destroying the humans, and how easily they fell to illness and disease. And yet, they revived—cured!—each other and established a society where individuals climbed and fell on the ladder of life. Truly impressive, and she had watched them change and flourish over the years, becoming like children to her.
But as are all children, they came with their assortment of troubles, not limited to the pollution of her water, air, chemicals, and nutrients. The ozone layer that had protected her from Mister Sun had nearly been wiped away, and now the effects of greenhouse gases were constantly on her mind, especially since they gave her headaches.

And the worst she had seen: her own children, murdering each other in the name of territory and land. Some were greedy, and some were kind, and others were mercilessly slaughtered for absolutely no reason at all. This was unforgivable, for Mother Earth had decided she would be the only one to rid the world of humans, when the time came for their existence to cease. Just as she had done for the large reptilians that strode across the land, long, long ago.

But I digress. Mother Earth, in all her cynical glory, has enjoyed the epidemics that the humans have suffered. And when there was no ongoing plague, she would take simple pleasure in the way humans convulsed and trembled, and how snot dribbled down their nose, when Spring came around.

So to this being said, this background of why the three sisters need to accomplish their mission, surely you can now understand why it’s impertinent that May raise the flowers from their slumber. Perhaps you can at least sympathize with March and April, who have worked so hard to avoid the fury of Mother Earth.

April sighed in dismay, as she flew across sections of dewy dirt and wet grass, a frown already displacing her unique features. If May was not discovered within half an hour, April would have to call upon March to help locate her. And although seemingly innocent, bright, and bouncy from her appearance, March was not someone to be reckoned with. Her years of dealing with Jack Frost had left her with a tough, no-nonsense attitude that could even make the strictest of business CEOs tremble. Having March beside me will definitely send May straight to work, thought April, as she glided effortlessly above the grass.

And speak of the devil! Just as April rounded the trunk of a tree, there was March, absentmindedly chewing on a dry blade of grass as she stared off into space.

And April, although completely serious when it came to her responsibilities, was one who could not resist the temptation of playing pranks on others, hence why the first day of her month was aptly named April Fools.

Raising her paws, April let one giant raindrop fall smack on top of March’s head, watching it drip down her sides and onto her snack. Surprised, March sat there for a couple seconds before realizing that she was soaking wet, and that April was standing there, a wide grin stretching across her face. However, it was quickly wiped away and exchanged with a slightly frightened expression as March slowly raised herself from the ground, turning slowly to April. When the soft, dangerous “April...” came, April knew she was in for it.

“We have some more important matters to deal with here! Our dear sister, May, is nowhere to be found, and she is shirking off her duties! Our deadline is approaching, and we don’t want to be late, now, do we?” April had always been good at changing the subject as well.

March’s eyes widened slightly, before she strode forward, shook her fur out, and sighed. “I think I may have an idea for where she could have gone.”

Leading the way, March took to the air and set off in the direction of the strawberry fields that May had grown to love. Often times, on a sunny, lazy afternoon, she could be found lying amidst the ripe berries, plucking at whatever she pleased and bloating herself until she could barely move. If she had started on her job, it would have been the first place she hit.

The first thing they noticed upon reaching their destination was the utter desolation left in the wake of April’s rain. The dirt underneath them was a silver brown, void of any sign of green that would indicate that May was doing her work.

Irritated, the two pixies turned tail and lifted their wings—before hearing the soft tinkling, like that of a wind chime swaying in the breeze. Since there were no wind chimes near by, the only explanation for that kind of sound was the tears of a pixie, hitting the ground like small crystals.

A quick glance was exchanged before March and April flew towards the source of the sound, slowing down as they drew closer to a small lavender-haired figure, whose body shook and trembled almost inconspicuously.

“May?” April called out, looking worried. May was rarely ever sad openly, instead choosing to live her life in a peaceful, content, and carefree way.

The sobs stopped for a second, and then remerged heavier than before, perhaps because she knew that she was also now in trouble with her sisters.

“May...what’s wrong?” asked March, tenderly. Being the oldest of the three, she was also the mother figure when it was called for.
“...The flowers...they won’t bloom...my strawberries,” and the sobs became more hysterical and distraught.

Shocked to hear this, March and April stepped forward to calm the frenzied girl. “But...I removed all the snow...That’s impossible!” April cried, just as they placed their paw on each of her shoulders. Then, out of the blue a soft, sultry voice appeared behind them.

“I’ve been watching you, May, dear.”

Three pairs of eyes widened, then winced. A chill ran up their spine, and their wings shuddered, dropped, and froze. May ceased crying, attempting to silence her snuffles.

The three pixies turned—to face Mother Earth herself, who had changed her form to that of a small, beautiful hamster with flowing white hair.

“And frankly, I’m not particularly pleased with your performance. If you haven’t noticed, your two sisters have been working so hard to please me, while you have been frolicking elsewhere,” came the commanding tone of the silver-haired beauty.

May could only give a slight nod, terrified of the consequences and lecture that was sure to come. All three sisters held their breath.

“But I’m afraid I can’t bring myself to strip you of your powers completely. I pity you, my children, and I will allow you this: an extra day to complete your tasks, but--,” said Mother Earth with a knowing smile, “no strawberries until you’re finished.”

The three pixies let out one large sigh, and smiled, taking a deep bow. “Thank you, Mother.” But she was already gone.

And so concludes my tale about the three sisters of Spring and how they bring along the fruits, flowers, and colors of our world. If Spring hasn’t quite appeared for you yet, you better make sure your fruit is in a safe place where no pixie can tunnel through.
