~At the heart of light is born the darkest shadow….So I figured I should get with the program and be sure you all understand that there has indeed been the creation of another Zelda spin-off game. As of last November, a Twilight Princess spin-off game, called Link's Crossbow Training, was released in the United States.
Did anyone else know about this? Even I only found out about this game today. -feels ignorant- xDD
Okay so apparently this game was a Zelda-themed spin-off featuring a new Wii accessory: the new gun/crossbow/firing thing (called a "Wii Zapper") holder for the Wii remote and nunchuck. The game was featured with the zapper package (I don't think it was sold by itself-but hey it's convenient and good marketing). It's a short game where Twilight Link is featured in different stages from the game where you have to shoot down targets or enemies or enemies with targets with his crossbow, which seems to be his only weapon (his sword isn't even on his back or anything!). According to zelda-wiki.org, the game has two main bosses, one of them being a reincarnation of sorts of the giant fossil monster from the desert. So there really is no ultimate goal of the game other then to shoot things into oblivion with a crossbow. Oh and even though the crossbow was the only weapon and as per Zelda game tradition there is no blood, gore, or bad language or anything of the sort, the ESRB rating was still T for Teen. I understand T for Twilight Princess, but a side game too? It doesn't seem that violent, you're just hitting targets.
Reviews were decent: IGN gave the game a 7.0 out of 10 and the main reason it fell so much from the usual LoZ game glory was that it was too short. Nintendo Power gave it a 6.5, saying that as a game intended to promote the zapper it really couldn't be much better. But both IGN and NP said that it was just too darn short; NP said it would probably take little over an hour for a player to get through single-player mode and then maybe another hour to get platinum medals on every level. IGN also said that the Wii Zapper was "frustrating to use" and actually was "making the game more difficult". For the record, 1.07 million copies have already been sold as of December 31 2007 (so why didn't I hear about it before? No clue ).
So, what do you think? I want to get a copy to try this zapper out for myself. Despite reviews, it looks like it could be fun, and anything DECENT that has to do with Zelda is attractive to me (I say decent because the Tingle and CD-i games were not something I was interested in too much, except for general information and knowledge).
