السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Woot woot. My brain is churning out all sorts of stuff right now.

How are you taught Sex ED in Islam? Or is it a "figure out when you marry your significant other" sort of deal?

My mother was an old-school Catholic...I didn't learn anything until high school and from other sources....it was sad...

I think a good sex education is important for today's youth to make us aware of what is going on in our bodies and how to handle it. And to avoid premarital pregnancies.

I agree that sex ed now becomes important because of the aforementioned reasons in your post.

But sex ed is not taught in any Islamic school. I guess Muslims don't do it because some see it as a Western influence. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, Muslim schools are very traditional that they adapt to as little adjustments as possible. What was taught in Islamic schools year ago is still taught now. THat's what I know at least.

Sex education is usually taught in a family not in an academic school, that is in Islam and what I see in my family. surprised

My teacher in my sociology class tells me that sex ed should only be existent within a family, i.e, parents educating their children about it. But due to its absence in the status quo, there is this sort of urgency to provide another avenue for sex ed.

sex ed in a family would have been wonderful because you avoid malices forming in the minds of the children. that would have been an ideal set-up.

but some 'conservatives', as they call themselves, tell that that would have been immoral. i beg to disagree anyway.

sex ed is not about being immoral. it's about taking sexual responsibility.

Its usually something people learn before getting married, most learn before that... most people just ask their families...

I do think it needs to be taught in muslim schools though however...

My problem is with the family teaching it is that it is often misinformation that is being passed along, and sometimes people don't even receive and sex ed...it becomes....on the job training while in marriage.
I read about an Indian couple that went into the clinic to talk about infertility problems. After explaining to the doctor what they tried to do, the doctor told the husband that he had been sodomizing his wife......
Rather hard to conceive children, no?

I don't know where you go, but from what I've learned in the USA is that sex ed is jacked up. Schools are afraid to go into depth about sex ed because they believe that sex ed will promote more sex.
Which is silly. Teens engage in sex because they want to, not because of a class that teaches them about it.
I think learning about what causes pregnancy, how it can be avoided, and what happens biologically during sex is important. The whole "abstinence" version that is thrown in school seems stupid. Installing a fear of sex isn't going to solve the problem of teen pregnancies and whatnot.

Most of the time its from the wrong sources. Most people don't know anything about the body, let alone genital parts. And quite frankly, when I have sex with my husband and follow the "minimum 5 kids rule" I'd like to have it to be enjoyable and pleasurable.
In some parts of the world, girls are taught to be morally afraid of sex...the only way that mothers were able to conceive was if her husband raped her. Which is not an enjoyable experience by any means.

Knowing what to do with your sex organs and how to take care of them is important.
Douching, washing the v****a with water, is actually a harmful practice that most women don't know about. It encourages bad bacteria growth and can lead to infertility if done too many times. Not good if you plan on raising a family.
Guys need to be aware of what normal penile functions are, especially if they want to be pro creative with their future wives.

Hell, with such an emphasis on marriage and sex between husband and wife and having lots of kids, I would have thought Islam would have been more informative on the matter....

I looked up stuff and took a sexuality class because I learned nothing at home. I wanted real medical information, not just...."don't do this" and "don't do that"
It was nice to know more about my body than just religious rituals on keeping it clean.
hehehe, Ratri, you're definitely going to need to keep up on the knowledge of sexual pleasure if you're going to be a mommy of at least 5 kids.... xd

Yes, I am a flaming Muslim...but Allah loves me!

Sex ed will put more impetus for teens to know more about sexual responsibility.

But, I guess, some Muslims do not want to have sex ed because there is the propensity of teens becoming curious about it and trying it eventually, which is prohibited in Islam.

Sexual intercourse is exclusive between lawfully married husband and wife, i.e, you must not have sexual intercourse with your girlfriend or boyfriend if you're a Muslim.

Sexual intercourse is 'sacred' in Islam and, I think, premarital sexual intercourse degrades the idea of sexual intercourse being sacred.

Don't flame me please. That's just what I know. biggrin
