I'm purely just curious, and I didn't see this anywhere else in the guild, so how many other people here also write original works in addition to (or instead of) fanfiction? And no, your school assignments don't count, this is what you do in your free time (or when you should be doing school work).

Well...I don't do it on a regular basis (hell, I don't write anything aside from schoolwork on a regular basis anymore stare ), but I have written a bit of original fiction just for the hell of it. It's rare that I like what I've written though. Usually I'll end up writing some sort of background story for my RP characters, yet they always seem to take on different spins entirely. By the time I'm done, I have a couple different AUs for them...

I want to be an author too!! In fact, that's the only thing about my future that I'm certain I'm going (or at least attempt) to do!

Gemmetra I want to be an author too!! In fact, that's the only thing about my future that I'm certain I'm going (or at least attempt) to do! what do plan on writing. Me, I want to do a mix of sci-fi fiction from short stories to epic series and young childern's books. Even dabble some in the graphic novel form. I'v already done some adaptations of of E.A.Poe and some of my own creation. I even write poetry.

I'm hoping to write my own novel at some point in my life, but I haven't written any of my original stories yet. I'm hoping to write a murder mystery using the info I'm getting from my classes (I'm a Criminal Justice major).

I already have two short books done, another one close to halfway done, and two more that I'm playing around with ideas for. I've also thought of some modern fantasy stories that would be fun to write when my technique improves. I hate poetry, but I end up writing it every now and again anyways. neutral I think I grew to dislike it from an overdose I got in elementary school.

I used to write nothing but original stories and poetry. And then I began to write fanfiction without knowing it was a thing in and of itself. I blame my sister and the series "Robin Hood" for it. (It was an older series of Robin Hood that I think was on TNT in the nineties--it had the guy who played Will Scarlet in Robin Hood:Men it Tights in it as Robin--not the British one playing now) And then, I got a computer I discovered what fanfiction was and a whole new world opened up.
Now, I try to balance the three: fanficiton, original stories and poetry, though I have a tendency not to finish any except the poetry... 'cause poetry--to me--is short.
Though in truth, there's another "and then" in here. And then, I discovered Gaia and I do not much else.
S'truth! Sad, though it is.

I haven't been able to touch my original stuff due to my inability to draw right now, since that's what prompts me to write most anything at all.
I have one story I'd been working on for a decade. It was going to span 3 "books." Now I can't really touch it. Makes me sad. I love sci-fi fantasy or just fantasy. Maybe modern, too, with a twist but I feel that's too hard because I have to know geography (well more like the finer details like streets and specific towns and stuff to offer up that dose of realism it'd need to make it at least a little...believable). Or whatever.
I haven't touched my fictionpress account in months...argh.

YOu know, I clicked No on the poll, but in all honesty I have written a few original stories and poems. Just not in many years. Fanfiction is fine with me for now smile

When I was in primary school, I wrote aLL the time, I got awards for lots of things and got told to go further...but when I went to secondary school, life just plain sucked. This teacher told me I should give up and that I wouldn't even pass my exams, never mind get anywhere else.
Thanks to her and practically everyone bullying me (-sobstory) I stopped writing altogether. I mean...I passed ym exam with flying colours...thanks to a 6 page essay on how my school was the worst place in the world. >,>;
But because I'd stopped, I couldn't get into it again.
Fanfiction's practically all I've written since and noe of that is very good. u.u
I've written two half-stories lately, though...they're s**t...
Long story short. no. xd

I write originals and fanfiction. I'm more motivated to write about my original stuff, though.

I mainly write original work, I rarely write fanfiction, though lately I have had several ideas and musings that make me want to. I enjoy writing fantasy thrillers and poetic tales.

I have written one piece that is purely original. I am working on it right now in fact. It was based off my OCs. I posted it on fictionpress :]

I don't post my stuff online that's original, mainly because if I ever wanted to publish it that could cause problems. Plus less risk of someone taking your idea. With fanfiction it doesn't matter much though. Plus the main point in fanfiction is the "fan". We write them for ourselves and others like us.
