badloki had this posting in the gcg: Attracting New Members/Encouraging Activity Here I will write a list of ideas you can use to attract new members to your guild or to encourage more activity.
Advertise, advertise, advertise! This is key!! However, only advertise in appropriate areas. Please do not spam-vertise your guild in forums, subforums, or threads that do not allow it.
Make an [AD] for your guild in the Registered Guild Forum and any other area on Gaia that allows it. Be sure and include a link to your guild and some basic info about it.
Make banners for your members to put in their sigs.
Put links/banners in your sig.
Encourage interesting topics. An interesting guild is a place people want to be!
Make sure your guild is well organized and easy to navigate. People don't want to be in a guild that confuses them.
Make sure your guild is in the correct category.
Make sure your guild's name accurately describes your guild.
Host guild lottos, contests, or give-aways. Use common sense when doing this. Don't scam your own members!
Browse other forums on Gaia and send out invites to people whom you think would enjoy your guild. But please don't harrass anyone about joining!
Make sure your guild is run and maintained well. If a conflict or problem arises in your guild, then take care of it ASAP! People don't want to be in a guild where they feel problems aren't being taken care of.
Make an interesting, eye-catching homepage. Also don't forget to describe your guild well and maybe even post up a few guild rules on your homepage.
Get your real life and/or Gaia friends to join, then ask them to ask their friends to join and so on.
I think these are good ideas. If DS ever comes online again, I'll ask her if she has any suggestions from the FGG days.
