"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." Just a few Zeris quotes I found in the Ultimania. =D Share thoughts, other Ultimania "proofs", etc. Quote: After the Reactor exploded, Cloud and Aerith merely exchanged words briefly. Meeting him again in her favorite Church "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." "Merely exchanged words" doesn't seem very romantic to me, and yet a lot of Cleris fans think that Cloud and Aeris' meeting is something magical and special. Also, notice something else interesting... "meeting him again in her favorite church". This could be referring to two things. "Meeting him" is actually a reference to Zack... Zack being the "him again". If not, Aeris meeting Cloud in her "favorite church" seems to be important. . . As if meeting a certain young man from the past is being remembered . -cough- Quote: As an Ancient, Aerith had planned to accomplish the mission. On the one hand, her last concern is Cloud. "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." I brought this up in the Cloti Guild too. I don't understand what they mean by "last concern". Shouldn't Cloud be her first concern? O-o Quote: The dull life in the Slum, the love with a SOLDIER who fell from the sky. In CC, Aerith is just a 15-year-old girl. Under the surveillance from Shinra, who wanted to worm out the location of the Promise Land from the Ancients. Growing flowers seems trivial but it brought her joy while she lived at the Sector 5 Slums. At that chosen day, she accidentally met Zack, SOLDIER 1st Class, and they were attracted to each other… Quote: text near img of Aerith's pointing to the Church's roof Just like Cloud in FF7, Zack fell to Aerith’s Church. Meeting him brings along her first love. Quote: text near img of Aerith's talking, saying "Everyman would notice the flowers, I mean, normally." Inspired by the flowers that she forbids trampling, they planed to sell flowers at the market. In CC, Aeirth used to say that flowers are indispensable. Quote: text near img of Aerith holding Zack Aerith gently embraced Zack, who came back sad. The atmosphere makes them feel like a couple.... =D Quote: [ ν ] - εуλ 0000 (Age 15) ·CC - Midgar She met Zack in the Sector 5 church, and became very intimate with him. =DD I changed the title so that it reflects the discussion a bit more. ~ Balthea

Quote: As an Ancient, Aerith had planned to accomplish the mission. On the one hand, her last concern is Cloud. I know people like this say this is just an awkward sentence, but I think it really shows us Aeris' true character. That her character isn't so overly involved with the LT, and that there were more important things than a troubled young man who may or may not be developing feelings for her. Aeris has a higher purpose, than any of the team, and this is showing that. She has a higher purpose than even our main character, Cloud. He is not relivant in her reasons for saving the planet, because it's so much more than her, Cloud, Tifa, Barret... ect. I love both of those Zeris quotes. XD I also love your interpretation of that first quote. Couldn't have said it better myself. I'll do some Ultimania Zeris quote searching tomorrow. Though would all of my, "Cloud takes on Zack's personality" quotes be relivant? XP Aeris, you love Zack, and we all know it. I just don't understand how Cleris can take Aeris so literally in FFVII when she talks about Zack, when we see she's contradicted in CC. She says it was nothing, but we see that's completely false. So, if that's wrong, are we really suppose to believe the rest of what she says is 100% true and doesn't have any hints of doubt? Though I thought this was obvious in the game, CC only pushes that further. And by obvious in the game, I mean how she keeps bringing him up, saying, "He was my first love.", but then trying to reassure Cloud, "It was nothing." And even though we know she's close with the planet, and that Zack doesn't cheat on her or talk about any other girl than Aeris in FFVII, she pretends like it's possible he ran off with another girl. Denial of his death much? XP And if anybody wants to mention Madien, we all know Zack, no matter how lifestream-sleepy he was, wouldn't say anything like that to Aeris after what we see in CC. It seems from my understanding that even Cleris fans don't like the way Zack is portrayed in Madien. I'm just saying, it seems very universal that the author took a wonderful and loved character, even with his minimal appearences in the series so far, and made him a "player" as opposed to a "ladies man". HUGE DIFFERENCE! But I'll only get into that if asked. All I'll say is a true ladies man would never make a girl angry at him like that. XP Ya, this rant got very much off track into a generic Zeris argument. Oh well, I'll just have to find something in the Ultimania tomorrow to support it. I'm sure it's there. XP

Aeris was only 15 in CC? eek But I thought she was a year old then Cloud, and wasn't Cloud 16 in CC? Do you guys know how old Zack was by any chance?

CC spans over many years. It starts with her being 15, and goes until she's 17 (from what I've been told).

That's a good point you bring up Balthea and yet at the same time it's still an awkward sentence. As an Ancient, her first priority is summoning Holy and yet it says "on the other hand" her last concern is Cloud. What is "on the other hand" supposed to really say? Is it just reinforcing that Aeris mission is of utmost importance? If so, why add that?

Out of the entire group, everyone, including Aeris, knows Cloud would take her running off the hardest. Going where he can't follow to protect her. And we also know he's got the most fragile mind out of any of them. So I think what it's saying is that her mission is more important than even the one person, ourselves in the game, who would and will take her doing this the hardest. Does that make sense? It's almost like they are trying to emphasize the fact that she's not just doing this to save Cloud, or for Cloud, or anything like that, but that she's doing it for the planet. Cloud's feelings are irrelivant to her decision. And though she knows he'll be hurt, she does it anyways. It's almost like giving her an excuse for putting him through so much pain, you know? I don't think it means "last concern" in a cold way, just a "he's the last thing on her mind because the fate of the world is resting in her hands and she can't be distracted by her friend."

I got some pretty quotes for you Lunar. XD Quote: The "girlfriend" reported at the parent's house. 6-7 years prior to FFVII, Zack's "I've managed to get a girlfriend" letter was left out in the parents' home. If it was 6-7 years ago, it was about the time where he met Aerith in CC... Does that mean the girlfriend was Aerith? Quote: To Dad and Mom, How are you? I'm sorry for suddenly rushing out of the village. The truth is that I really wanted to become a SOLDIER. I thought that saying that would worry you . . . I'm now fulfilling my dreams and working hard as a SOLDIER. P.S. I've managed to get a girlfriend. -Zack Quote: Zack seems to have a number of girlfriends, but especially informing his home means there's no doubt that the partner is a special one. Quote: As a result of being able to surmise everything from each small deed, Aerith, who was in love with Zack, might perhaps have been jealous many times seeing all that... I like this quote because it's emphasizing what I've always said about the whole, "ladies man" buisness. Zack's just flirty with girls by nature. It says he compliments girls and offers to take them out for dinner. It doesn't say he's romantically interested in them though. I just think he likes making girls happy, well, anyone happy really. His actions, and devotion to Aeris, show even more that's all it is. He may like making other's happy, but Aeris is the important one to make truely happy. I also highly doubt he was aware that these actions would bother Aeris. Most guys who are like that are completely oblivious that they are huge flirts anyways. XP I also like this quote because it says Aeris loves Zack. Zeris w00tness! Now, where in the Ultimania does it say Aeris loves Cloud? XP Quote: Constantly hovering and surveilling Aerith is the figure of Tseng. Is a love triangle surrounding Aerith developing? I just like how THIS is the LT they comment on. XP Quote: Aerith, the girl whom he met at the slum's church. The existence of the girl, who had earnestly come to love Zack with sincerity, eventually became irreplaceable to him. Quote: Midgar Zack became a SOLDIER in this metropolis when he was a teen, and at the end, tried to return here using all his strength.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." Thanks for posting all of those quotes, Balthea! They are quite pretty indeed. =D You even posted my favorite one, about Aeris having a "sincere" love for Zack. Meaning, NOT a crush, and not "puppy" love. =D Though, some will argue with that "light taste of love" quote. :/ Honestly, this quote seems miniscule to all of the other quotes that point out how strong Zack and Aeris feel about one another. This quote is obviously being misinterpreted.
Lol, puppy love is a cute name for Zeris, if you think of it like Zack being the "puppy" like they refer to him as in CC. XDD

I really don't see how one can make the claim of puppy love... I think they don't understand what that is. You don't date someone for two years and have your dying thoughts be of "puppy love". Puppy love means infatuation. And we all know Aeris and Zack share leaps and bounds above that. They were serious, and they are more than old enough to be in love, as we know from other FF couples. Love is love is love. That's all I have to say. Call it what you want, but these two were in love. He was her first love. And so on and so forth.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." I agree. Puppy love would pertain to more of a crush, or a fling.
Here's some quotes from the CC Ultimania that are just to DIE for. heart
In Aeris/Zack's profiles:
Quote: The girl pretty as flowers blooms in Zack’s mind. I love the analogy. XD The flower girl that blooms in Zack's mind... it's so cute! heart
Quote: The destined encounter with Zack makes them becomes the irreplaceable existence to each other.
OMFG. Proof that Zeris is destiny?! heart And look at this closely, irreplaceable existence? WOW, this basically proves that in Maiden, FFVII, and AC that Aeris loves Zack, and likewise.
Quote: The chosen day, Zack suddenly fell from the roof of the Church in the Slum. His bright confidence immediately catches her mind, and they start a relationship as a couple.
The chosen day. Destiny. Need I say more?
Quote: Aerith honestly expresses her good feeling to Zack straight out, and that also makes his heart skip a beat.
*Dies from cuteness overload*
Quote: Selling flowers will richen both wallet and streets? Aerith’s interest is taking care of flowers, but flowers rarely bloom in Slum because the sky is covered by the Plate. Aerith’s dream is to plant a lot of flowers around the Slum—for such a dream, Zack suggests that she should sell those flowers she plants, and not just around the Slum, but make the whole Midgar full of flowers. His plan that “If Midgar is full of flowers, then your wallet will be full too!” opens up a gate to a new world to Aerith.
"Opens up a gate to a new world to Aerith" Zack does all that for her, huh? ;D Without even trying.
Quote: The more Aerith knows about Zack, the more she’s attracted by him. Her manner toward Zack is also sweet.
Quote: Repeating Zack’s look with Cloud’s. Being an Ancient, Aerith did her utmost to save the Planet, even sacrificed life—in FF7, the impression of Aerith being such a tragic heroine is strong. Nevertheless, the most significant link to FF7 is the conversations about Cloud. The reason why she’s a flower girl when she first meets Cloud, the beginning of love with her first love, Zack, and the reason she saw Zack in Cloud—all those things we don’t know in FF7 are made clear in CC. Text: Aerith asks Cloud to be her bodyguard. Does her “one date” as the payment repeat what Zack used to say to her?
Zeris proven canon?
Quote: *Text near the img of Zack and Aerith in CC: Aerith never talks about her bitterness but lives brightly. It is growing by degrees into inseparable relationship.

Wow, just wow. That completely throws anything anyone can say negative about Aeris and Zack's relationship down the drain. Even the stuff about her not caring anymore and moving on. I love this one you mentioned. Quote: The destined encounter with Zack makes them becomes the irreplaceable existence to each other. Sorry Cleris, as much as you want him to, Cloud's not replacing Zack in Aeris' heart. XP Or how about Zack falling into the church is 'destined' or 'chosen'. Yet how do they describe Cloud meeting Aeris the first time? Quote: She met Cloud by accident... So Cloud is an accident, but Zack is destined? Doesn't take rocketscience to see what SE is saying. Done, and done. Zeris=canon. *grabs Lunar's hand and dances* XD I don't care if someone prefers the Cleris pairing. It would be out of character for me to dislike them for it. Yet with all this evidence for both Zeris and Cloti, I feel I can no longer respect the idea of them being any sort of canon, unless you want to say faux CloudxAeris are seen a bit in the beginning of FFVII.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not." I still respect Cleris fans, and the Cleris pairing. ^.^ Whereas I can't say I believe it can even be considered as a possibility of canon anymore and that there should be no more LTD (Long Term Denial), I will still support people who support Cleris. Because, it's their personal view, you know? I don't have a right to tell them how they should think, lol. heart
Just because a pairing isn't canon, doesn't mean it can't still be a very popular pairing with proof. O__O Like you mentioned LarsaXPenelo (SO AMAZING). It has a lot of proof, but so does PeneloXVaan. PeneloXVaan is clearly the canon, and LarsaPenelo, well it just isn't as much as I wanted/believed it was. DX You know, LarsaXPenelo seems to be more popular than the canon anyway, so it doesn't bother me!
So, if Cleris is still popular, has proof/moments that inspire Cleris fans... why is it hard to say it isn't canon? It's not like anything will change. You will still like the pairing regardless, lol. Seriously. If I read the Ultimania and read statements like "Cloud saw Aeris in Tifa because the two became irreplaceable destined lovers before her death" I'd admit Cloti wasn't canon. That's just me though. ;D

Yeah man! Destiny! Another thing to add about Aeris and Zack's love....even after Zack was sent to Nibelheim and stuck in a tube for 4 years, Aeris continued to send letters to him, 89 of them. If it was puppy love, then those feelings would wane after a year or two. True love is eternal love. biggrin

@Lunar: There's a difference between proof of a couple, and little hints that something might be going on. If you see these little hints, and it sparks a pairing you enjoy, there's nothing wrong with that. Seeing these little hints and it sparking you to go around saying, "It's CANONZ" is wrong, and shouldn't be respected.
Telling them how they should think is a tricky thing. They should respect the truth, while liking what they want. That's what they should be told.
I like LarsaxPenelo, but I'd never start giving people quotes trying to claim these quotes prove the game creators are showing them in love. Honestly, knowing the true canon and knowing his actual age makes me still think they are cute, but that's about it.
About what Twin mentioned. People having been making the claim that Zeris is too young to be true love. While there's not much evidence to support this, and mountains to prove otherwise, there's one small detail everyone's forgetting.
When does Aeris send that last letter? Four years after the last time she sees him. Which, do the math, is shortly before Cloud gets to Midgar. So, she's too young to be in love with Zack, but when she meets Cloud her internal clock ticks over to the right second to be old enough for love?
Right... XP
Just because you start a relationship at a young age doesn't mean those feelings don't mature along with you. Though the evidence that says that they aren't too young for love disproves this all anyways.
I'd also like to note that though Aeris has spent a lot of time away from Zack, are we really suppose to believe that she'd get over him that quickly? Considering the time line they give us, Aeris sends that last letter and then meets Cloud shortly after. Where's the time for her to change? Change interests? Get over Zack?
She's been waiting for him and when she's written one final letter, a Zack-act-alike pops into her world. I'll let logic take it's course.

And it's very apparent with how Aeris treats Cloud. She treats him with the exact same attitude as she treated Zack, with a little mischief and gentleness. She requests for a date when he fell from the sky, she takes him to the playground and even talks about Zack there. Who's to say that she isn't reminiscing about the time she and Zack were there together?
