)( This is actually based on a story that I'm making, and I'm stuck... So I'm hoping to get some ideas. <3 )(
When the world was young there was a great war between the four major tribes. One tribe hailed from the smoking moutons and worshiped the god of fire, one hailed from the shore of the great crashing ocean who worshiped the god of water, another hailed from the deep dense forest and worshiped the goddess of the earth, and the last hailed from the wide open planes and worshiped the goddess of the air. Each tribe was made up of humans and demons alike that chose to worship the god or goddess of the tribe. The two gods and the two goddesses looked down upon the war with disgust; this was not what they wanted for this world, so they took action.
Four lights appeared in the sky above the battle field, one light was a fiery red, another, a calm dark blue, the next a shining light blue, and the last a bright emerald green. The lights took on the forms of shining figures that floated gracefully to the earth. The fighting had stopped abruptly as everyone looked on at the new figures. The all mighty immortals looked to their people with disgust.
"You have shamed us." Spoke the wispy voice of the goddess of air.
"You choose the fight with your brothers." Said the god of water with his crashing voice.
"You do not deserve our gifts." Said the god of fire in his crackling voice.
"But you may have a second chance." Said the last with her rich earthy voice.
"Depending upon what path you choose." They all said in unison. With that they parted, making their way through the crowd, picking out one being each and bringing them back to the middle. Each being was of a different tribe. "You four will make the decision." They said to the beings lined up in front of them. "You will ether be the destroyers of this land, or you will be the saviors." Each higher being held out their right hand. "Hold out your hands and receive the gift and curse."
The beings were hesitant but abided, and each received a bright shining stone.
"The Heart of the Earth." Said the goddess of earth.
"The Heart of the Ocean." Said the god of water.
"The Heart of Fire." Said the god of flame.
"The Heart of the Winds." Said the goddess of air.
"To save this land all that you must do is resist the power of the elements the stones now endure you with, and place them into this crystal."Above them shown a slivery light and from it fell a crystal that held indents of each stone. "But whale making you decision, do not let the stones fall into the wrong hands, for this is both a blessing and a curse." With that the higher beings departed from the world, leaving the humans to figure things out for them selves.

Story Line:
The beings had decided to save their world, and in doing so they had split the continent into the forms we see today. The beings had thought the crystal and gems they had received would disappear, but that of course was not the case. The crystal had split into four chunks, and each being had received back their stone. They had all made the decision that they must protect them, for there still might be the chance that something evil could come from this. They each had taken a piece of the crystal as well, hiding them on the opposite sides of the earth, hoping no one would ever find them. They now protected the gems as they passed them down through the families, hoping that ether one day they would be forgotten about along with the ledged, or that the people who would receive the stones would protect them.
It is now present day, and the gems have once again been passed to the new generation, but all is not well. There is someone who has found the crystal chunks, and he also plans on finding the gems, in hopes to bring the word into udder chaos. The only way for the stones to truly be protected is if the holders come together to fight this mad man, for if the holders go against him alone, they shall fall. The protectors may very well even need some protecting of their own, so it is encouraged that others help stand up and fight.
Setting:
The story will take place in New York City, present day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Stones:
The Heart of Fire. This stone enables the wearer to control and produce fire. This stone is held by Amyranth.
The Heart of the Ocean. This stone enables the wearer to control water, as well as freeze it.
The Heart of the Winds. This stone enables the wearer to control the winds. Faye protects this stone.
The Heart of the Earth. This stone allows the wearer to control the earth, and communicate with plant and animal life.
The Element Crystal. This, if joined with the stones can ether help bring the world into a better, more prosperous position, or can cause the world to spiral out of control, and become a dark dismal place. All four pieces are held by Marcus and his band of evil beings.
Profiles Any and all races accepted. If you want to be a stone holder, just ask when you PM the profile, and if it hasn’t been taken, I’ll add it to your profile. Stones are first come first serve. Yes, you may have elemental powers, but the powers of the stones may be stronger, depending upon the person. Keep in mind too, we need bad guys as well, not just the one.
Profile skeleton:
Accepted Profiles: Username: )(Over.Dose.On.Cyanide)( Name: Amyranth Kithnic Age: 19 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Straight Race: Half demon, she isn’t sure what kind though. Powers: The ones that come from her stone, which is control over fire.. Weapons: A dagger passed down from her mother, and her own two hand held guns. Side: Good, of course. Personality: Amyranth can be a rather nice person, once she gets to know you, but be ware, if you get on her bad side, she will let you know with her sarcasm. Quick Bio: Amyranths mother died during the birthing process, leaving Amyranth alone in the world. When she had turned nine, her father came to her, asking for her to join with him and rule. He had also told her that even though she was only half of his own powerful race she was quite powerful, and that she had shown it when she killed her mother in the birthing process. She had also learned that he had raped her, never intending to spawn off a child. He was her first kill. For the next five years she lived with an un-loving couple whom had adopted her for the money. After learning that she had run away, vowing never to return to them. A friend of her mothers had one day found the child, giving her the stone her mother had left as well as the golden dagger. The man was never to be seen again. Appearance: Amyranth stands at about five foot six inches with long soft ruby red hair that hangs to about her mid back. Her eyes are unmistakable with the irises them selves being a deep red and the whites holding a purplish hue. Her skin is a soft milky white, making her eyes and lips seem to pop. It matches her well, making her beautiful, well, if to no one but herself. Her body is small and slender, making her capable of many limber moves when in a fight. Her long slender arms are adorned with black fingerless gloves laced up the from with some pretty silky red ribbons. The gloves stop just below her elbows, leaving the tattoo on her right upper arm visible. The symbol is the ankh, an Egyptian hieroglyphic for ever lasting life. Her corset is made from tight black leather with red lace crisscross crossing the front to keep it hooked. The corset stops a few inches above her navel revealing her other tattoo of a up-side down pentagram. Her tight leather pants ride low on her hips, leaving more of her flat stomach in view. The pants are laced up the sides with the same type of ribbon that was used for the gloves and corset. Her feet of course are not bare, they lay hidden within a pair of three inch heels, making her stand at a height of five foot nine inches. The heels are also adorned with red ribbons in the place of laces. She wears the Heart of Fire around her neck on a silver chain. Though her human for is what she is most likely seen in, she does have her demon form, much like what her father had, though she still doesn't have the handle on how to change. This form is a dark black winged creature with bright yellow eyes. The bottom seems to be made of a black mist becoming more palpable as you move up. The fingers are long and pointed, much like knives. Her arms are long and jagged, which adds much danger. In this form she had razor sharp, pearly white teeth and a set of what appears to be pointed ears.
Amyranth holds the Heart of Fire. Username: )(Over.Dose.On.Cyanide)( Name: Marcus Age: 400 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Straight Race: Shadow demon Powers: Control over the shadows as well as shadow walking. Weapons: A long staff made from the bones of past shadow demons. Side: Evil Personality: Evil and maniacal, even a little crazy, but ever so suave. And lets not forget blood thirsty. Quick Bio: Not much is known about Marcus, except he is now the holder of the Element Crystal, and will stop at nothing to get the stones. He spent years searching for the peaces of the crystal, it was a good chunk of his 400 years. Appearance: [Marcus]
Marcus holds the Elemental Crystal.
Username: seleneswan Name: Faye Vento Age: 17 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Straight Race: Human, for the most part. She has faerie in her blood, though, so you can never be too sure. Powers: The ones that come from her stone, which control the wind. But sometimes, her dreams and nightmares come true. Weapons: Two handheld guns, and a katana. Usually, all she has are the guns, though. Side: Good (: Personality: Faye is usually a calm person, mostly happy. Her fits of anger are something to avoid, though. Not a pretty sight. But she always has a lingering image, as if something in her past was to regret. Some lingering sadness still comes by her, but she returns, happy as ever. Quick Bio: Faye was born to a 16 year old mom. Let’s just say her mom made a…mistake. Faye was always a smart girl, doing well in school, getting those long desired straight As. She always had a normal life, the Plain Jane of New York. Her mom worked in the world trade center. On September 11, 2001, Faye’s mother died in the blazing flames and crumbling building. Faye was only 10. In her mother’s will, she inherited the apartment they lived in, all the knick-knacks inside of it in as well as the money and a necklace with a heart pendant. While going through the closet one day, she found a katana from when her mom went on business to China. Because she was only 10, she lived with her eldest aunt, who was 53 with heart problems. Her grades had dropped a bit, ranging as low As, due to her deceased mother. She graduated early, at 16 because she skipped a grade. Adorning the graduation robes, she wore a pendant. A heart pendant. She’s never taken it off, since. Her aunt died of heart attack just weeks later, and she moved back into her old apartment alone. Appearance: Faye has dirty blonde, wild, long, untamed hair. She has bluish green, cerulean, almost turquoise eyes and a button nose, not too tiny, not to big. Her lips are full and her mouth is small. She’s very pale, or “fair” to put it nicely. Many of thought of her as beautiful, but she doesn’t seem to stand out. She’s about 5 foot 6 inches, more or less. She’s slim, not seeming muscular, but she can pack a heck of a punch when she wants to. She’s not a stick, but rather curvy. She can slide into tiny places, but disadvantaged by her height. Her arms are covered with snowy sleeves, garnished with a white fur trim near the shoulders. Attached to the fur is black leather. It winds around her neck and goes below the shoulders, stopping just above her stomach and abdomen. The white cloth comes back, lacing down the center of her tummy, down to her hips where it widens and wraps around, becoming a skirt. Little designs hang off of the hem and the back of the skirt trails down, past her feet. The front is like a miniskirt, instead, which shows off her slender legs. On the black leather on her chest, there’s an elaborate heart to embellish the outfit. She wears the pendant around her neck, its light blue color standing out against the black and the white. The color of the heart is similar to the color of her eyes. Her shoes are stilettos, only holding her foot by white lace, seeming to almost come off easily. To give a more of a visual, here’s a picture of Faye
Faye holds the Heart of Wind.
Username: Captain Alisha
Name: Lilith a.K.a Lilly
Age: 16
Gender: female
Sexual Orientation: staight
Race: human (white)
Power: psychic in all areas
Weapons: none
Side: good
Personality: Very intellegent, she is quite for the most part, but will stand up for what she believes in. She is strong willed and can make friends any where she goes.
Quick Bio: Here village was destroyed by an evil band of the four stone holders. She now travels alone to seek out the good holder of the stone and to team up to stop the others.
Amyranth stood gazing out of the large glass window of her eighteenth story flat apartment. The stone that hung around her neck caught the rays of the descending sun, causing her chest to flare red when she stood in a cretin spot. She sighed and turned away from the window to face the door. It wouldn't be long until the sun was down, and she had no where to go. She sighed, grabbing her light coat on her way to the door. She moved down the steps with ease as she slipped on her leather coat which fit her leather ensemble fairly well. It was of course fall weather, the perfect weather, not too cold, and not too hot, just cool enough that you wanted a jacket.
The door of the apartment slammed behind hr as she made her way down the steps that had lead to the stoop. She wasn't winded at all from her walk down the stairs. She really disliked the elevators for some reason, perhaps it was because of her claustrophobia. What ever it was she never really rode them. She moved along on the sidewalk towards central park, determined to get her walk in before it had gotten too dark.
Amyranth stopped as she saw something out of the corner of her eye. It was not one of the better places in the city, but of course she could always take care of herself, or so she had thought. she could see one form hovering over another, but of course she didn't quite feel like getting into anything just yet tonight, so she moved on, after all the police were already on their way. It would be a few blocks before she would even be close to the park. Others thought she was odd because she walked everywhere. Her friends would often tell her that it was so much easier to grab a cab or something, but she of course never listened. She loved the fresh air too much, or what fresh air there was in the city. Her friends also hated how she would like to take walks right before everything went dark, seeing as she could be mugged or even raped. There seemed to be a lot of stories about that lately. Amyranth shoved her hands into her pockets as she kept moving, only stopping to wait for a cross walk when she would come to one.
Faye walked over to the rack, putting up her apron, grabbing her coat and bag. “I’m heading out; my shift’s up,” she called softly, but clearly. Turning around, she faced Suki, waiting for her reaction.
Suki looked up from the table she was wiping off, nodding and smiling. “See you later, Faye.” Faye waved lightly before heading out of the door of the restaurant. Pushing the handle out, a blast of wind greeted her, her hair flailing wildly in the wind. The pendant on her neck clung tenaciously to the chain, bouncing around, but refusing to fall off. Nevertheless, Faye put her hand over it, clutching the heart shaped stone. The wind died, down, but the chill was still there. Still walking, she took her jacket and slipped her arms into it, craving the warmth. She shivered from the breeze that passed by, sending a few stray leaves near the gutter flying. Fall was in the air. She crossed her arms, trying to make body warmth. She shivered and stopped, looking at the cars passing by on the street before crossing. She turned onto Soho and walked more swiftly, before turning on yet another street and walking about a buildings-length and grabbing the door to a Starbucks.
The door chimed as she opened it, the sounds of voices and socializing in the air. Murmurs from conversations floated in the air, and she smiled as the familiar sound filled her ears. Breathing in deeply, she smelled the warm aroma of coffee, and sighed gratefully. If any place was hers, it would be Starbucks and Barnes and Noble. There was no place she felt more at home. Two places where she could escape into the lands of smooth, creamy, caffeinated liquids and imagination. She looked up, searching with her eyes and found Carolyn, who was standing behind the counter dutifully. Smiling lightly, she waved, and stood in the back of the line.
The warmth was definitely better than outside. She shuffled forward when the line moved, almost robotically. It was so habitual for her. Almost like religion. At 5:00, go to work at the Panda Garden with Suki, leave, walk to Starbucks, order a cappuccino, talk to Carolyn, and sit back and read the night hours away.
Her eyes wandered, not finding anywhere necessary to move to. The menu was null and void in this decision, seeing as she already knew what she was going to order. Not only her, but most of the staff. She smiled at the thought absently. Her thoughts floated on clouds, and she listened hazily to the New Yorkers around her, sipping their coffee. Coffee is so nostalgic, she thought randomly. People meet over coffee, there are discussions over coffee, people go on dates and get a coffee. Tea was much the same, bringing back just as many memories. Caffeine, unless in soda, was nostalgic. Coffee was a major part of everyone’s life. Her thoughts were interrupted when she realized she had come to the front of the line and Carolyn was looking at her peculiarly. “Sorry,” she murmured.
Carolyn just rolled her eyes, and without Faye ordering, told her the bill. “That’ll be $4.68…” Faye smiled and nodded, taking out her wallet and pilfering through it, trying to find the cash. She pulled out a 5 and handed it to her, placing her wallet back in her purse.
“Keep the change. It’s a tip.” She giggled lightly at that. While waiting for her cappuccino at the counter, Faye started a conversation. “So anything new?” Carolyn just shrugged, and stuffed the ‘tip’ in her pocket.
“I’m rethinking college…Cornell was my first choice, especially when they offered me a scholarship, but I was thinking of doing things more hands on and go to a college near the coast. I mean, I might as well get used to the field work if I’m majoring in Marine Biology.” Faye nodded, mulling that over when a new employee with a pimple problem handed her the cappuccino.
“Here’s your drink, ma’am.” Faye took it absently, her hands caressing the warm paper cup. She took a straw and walked away from the counter, waving goodbye at Carolyn as she took her usual spot in the corner near the cold glass window.
The bright lights of New York reflected on it in the night sky. She looked out for a moment and slid into the booth, setting the drink on the table. She grabbed her bag, tugging the caught zipper open and pulling out a book, also setting it on the table. She closed the bag and nestled into the corner of the booth, sipping the cappuccino. She opened the book, her nose buried in it, escaping from reality and going into the world of olden times, when things were so much more blissful. Jane Eyre. She sipped the cappuccino again, and turned the page. She stopped momentarily, pulling her knees up to her chest, her chin resting on her knees. She opened the book again and continued on, and occasionally sipping her cappuccino.
((Heh, long post. I hope that's okay!))
Lilith or Lilly as she liked to be called headed towards a shop that was down town. Comming out of a store was a girl that looked like she just got off a shift. Lilly squeezed by her and entered the shop. She had been searching for the holder of the stones for some time. She just needed a break inside a warm store. It was fall but she still felt cold.
Lilly ordered her meal which included a hot cup of coffee. She then pulled out a map that she carried in her backpack. She unfolded it across the table. The map had multicolored lines outlining different roads and highways. Places were circled to indicate all of the places she had searched. She crossed out a place and then folded the map up and put it away. She was beginning to not have many options. She sat their for sometime.
)( Hazazel is just an NPC just so you all know... He's not important. )(
Marcus stood alone in his own apartment flat. Every thing was cast in a dark shadow as the light from the descending sun came through the windows. The tall walls were painted a deep black, which matched all of the leather furniture. In his hands he held the complete elemental crystal. The light sparkled in it, casting several different colors upon his face. He knew there wee some stones here. He knew deep in his bones.
"Hazazel." Marcus spoke as he turned from the window. "I want you to go and search the city, see of you can pick up any of the vibrations the stones leave behind." It would look to anyone that Marcus was just talking to himself, but of course that was just not the case.
Something in the shadows of the room moved, pulling down a hood. His bright silver hair caught the light just so, that it seemed to be glowing. A set of silver eyes looked to Marcus as a smile spread across the mans lips. "Yes my lord." Hazazel said with a bow. "I can already feel some vibrations, it shouldn't be too hard." He said with a grin.
"Then be gone." Marcus said with a wave of his hand. And that was it, the figure disappeared into shadows.
Amyranth was making her way down the street when she stopped dead. The stone around her neck was sending tingles into her boy. Her eyebrows came together in a v shape as she looked around. Her fingers found their way to the stone by instinct. "Shh, nothing is wrong." She whispered. The only other time the stone did this was to warn her of danger. Though this was a slightly different sensation. She shook her head, feeling like she was going crazy. Her eyes looked to the window of the coffee shop she was by, wondering what could trigger this.
Amyranth sighed as she shook her head before pressing on to the park. She needed to get her walk in before it got too late. And she needed to stark moving or someone else was going to think she was crazy, not like it mattered though.
Faye yawned tiredly and tore her eyes blearily from the text. The café was nearly empty by now; only a few stray souls like her were lingering in nooks and crannies, busy doing their own thing. Carolyn was still at the cash register, but seemed to be cleaning up, as if Starbucks was…closing. She looked up at the clock on the wall, as it ticked steadily, like a heartbeat. The quiet noise seemed quite loud, and the silence that engulfed the room even louder. Her vision was blurry and she closed her eyes, letting them moisturize before looking back up at the clock. 11:47. At night. Her eyes widened and she quickly got up, stumbling unsteadily out of the booth. Her hands were shaking, frantic. As if they had a mind of their own, they moved and dumped the empty cup in the trashcan while she remained in her state of shock.
She knew she had nobody to go home to, but the thought of being out near midnight gave her the chills. Her imagination tended to run wild and the villains of her dreams, books, and fantasies seemed to come to life and stalk her, to possess her mind and terrorize her, making her more paranoid than she needed to be. This was generally the point when she conjured up her fantasy indestructible hero, to save her. And then she was alright, up until the imagination began to fade away and her mind was blank. Which was when her mind seemed to turn its gears again and summon her fictional thug who was out to get her. And then the process started all over again.
But, it was still New York, and the city was still alive, but she yearned to fall into her peaceful slumber, escaping the world and its problems. Desperately, she looked out the window, to fantasize her apartment, her solace. But the lights and shadows of New York seemed to grow with her irrational fear of the things that go ‘bump’ in the night. And she was 17. How pathetic…she thought to herself.
Breaking out of her trance, she gathered up her things, slinging her bag on her arm. She swiftly unzipped the bag, stuffing her book in, its pages bending this way and that. She wasn’t one for treating her literature harshly, but it was late. Still clad in her jacket, she rushed to the counter, and opened her mouth to order a cappuccino, when Carolyn handed one to her, smiling.
“I can read minds,” she said calmly, as if that explained the world. Faye snorted softly and then swiftly covered her mouth, astonished by the sound. Her eyes widened drastically and she gasped in shock. Even Carolyn widened her eyes. Faye shook her head quickly, as if to clear her mind of that. Carolyn burst out into giggles and grinned widely. Faye set the paper cup down, reaching into her bag for cash. She pulled out a 5 and handed it to Carolyn and she stuck it in her pocket.
Faye narrowed her eyes. “Did you pay for me or are you robbing me of my money?” she inquired suspiciously; a hint of humor touched her face. “I’m robbing you of your money.” Carolyn answer, her voice serious, but her eyes dancing with humor.
Faye had a look of relief wash over her face. “Oh, if that’s all…” She shrugged nonchalantly, and finally laughed again, before yawning, and leaning back, stretching the muscles in her back. She picked up her drink, letting its warmth soothe her comparatively frozen body.
And then the ornament around her neck seemed to grow warmer, and sent chills running down her spine. It wasn’t a bad sensation, but a pleasant one. As if she was meeting someone she knew from a long time ago. Meeting a long-lost friend. It was an eerie sensation, but comforting. She shook her head and yawned, thinking to herself that the coffee was doing something strange to her. Coffee is not only nostalgic, she amended, but it makes you loony. A magical bean, the coffee bean is. It’ll lead you up into the clouds if you plant it and you’ll meet the trolls that Jack saw when he went up his beanstalk. I bet he was given coffee beans. She snorted softly at her revelation and sighed, chills being sent down her back again.
She turned, waving goodbye, when Carolyn called. “Wait…” Faye sighed and strolled to a table, perching lightly on the tabletop. Carolyn put the apron away, and waved to an employee she couldn’t see. Hopping lithely over the counter, Carolyn joined Faye.
Faye smiled, but her eyes became distant. Carolyn’s agile moves reminded her like a cat. She thought back today, when a girl weaseled her way through her and the doorway of Suki’s restaurant of Chinese cuisine, Panda Garden. That girl was like a mouse. Maybe humans were a result of monkeys, but these monkeys had originated from felines and rodents. Carolyn waved her hand in front of Faye’s face for a while before Faye finally snapped out of it. “Oh!” she said, shocked. She looked back at the time. 11:58. She had been out of it for quite awhile…
Which was when something crashed in the back of the store. The shattering sound pierced the silence of the night and Faye’s heart jumped to her throat, the adrenaline rushing through her body. Her blood raced hot and fast through her veins. And the fear seemed come back to her. She froze, hoping to herself, to call up her imaginary savior. But he wasn’t needed.
“Larry, clean that up…” Carolyn called, sighing, exasperated. Faye closed her eyes with relief, sighing inwardly to herself. I am such a coward. Her heartbeat was still speeding and she willed silently, for it to calm down. She took slow, even breaths, attempting to nullify its rate. Carolyn took Faye’s arm, tugging on her lightly as she pulled on the handle of the door. The door chimed softly as they exited onto the street. The wind was stronger at night and she shivered again, pulling herself closer to her chest. She rubbed her palms together, hoping the friction would warm her. Carolyn still tugged on her, leading her back on to SoHo, where she waved over a cab, by jumping up and down in the middle of the street.
Faye looked up at the desolate sky, pleading for warmer weather. For nicer wind. For warmth. Seconds passed and the wind kept its steady rate. But then it began to slow and came to a stop, the slight warmth there was, seemed to curl around her, like a blanket. She clutched her cappuccino and took a deep sip as a cab came to a full stop in front of Carolyn. Faye stepped in, the heater soothing her, and the wind rate outside seemed to fall back to normal. Faye took no notice of it as Carolyn slid into the seat next to her, her hands buried deep inside the pockets of her winter jacket. It was only fall and the weather seemed to grow colder daily.
She looked out of the fingerprinted window of the cab, utterly repulsed by its griminess. A tremor ran up her back in disgust, and her hands tightened into fists before relaxing out. She was stiff, as if the dirt and dust would evade her if she remained still. She turned the other way, to look at Carolyn. Her eyes were far away, but she wasn’t thinking. Just in a silent stupor of nothingness.
The cab came to a stop in front of their apartment building (they lived in the same complex), and they got out together, handing cash to the cabbie. Half and half, as per usual. Faye gathered her things, clinging to them with tenacious fingers, the warmth of the cappuccino radiating. She smiled slightly and mumbled a thank you before stepping out of the cab and slamming the door shut. She relaxed, her muscles loosening, grateful to be away from the filth. She looked up at the complex, which seemed to have a welcoming air to it. She smiled, grateful to be home.
The two of them each opened a door to the building and stepped inside, heading straight for the elevator. They were silent; it wasn’t an awkward silence, but rather a comfortable silence, something to bask in. They floated in the doors of the elevator, both of them in their own thought processes and weren’t really conscious that they had exited the elevator onto their floor. It had only come to them when a door stood in front of them, waiting to be opened with a key. Faye looked up at Carolyn, who was just down the hall from her and waved. “G’night,” she called softly. Carolyn nodded, and smiled softly.
“’Night,” She whispered as Faye inserted the key and stepped into the apartment. Reaching to the side, she flipped the lights on and dumped her stuff on a nearby table. Her toes dug into the carpet, the fuzz warming her icy feet. She shivered and turned to the thermostat, raising the temperature a bit before kicking off her shoes into a musty corner and walking into the bathroom for a relaxing, unwinding shower. Her feet hit the tile floor and she closed her eyes, feeling totally unperturbed.
Quickly, she dressed down, letting the clothes fall one by one to the tile floor. The soft thump of her jeans and the rattle of change in her pocket were familiar and she kneeled, reaching into her pocket and pulling out the loose change. She untied her hair from the low ponytail it was previously in, letting it fall to her sides, going down to a little more than the center of her back. She stepped over the barrier of the tub and turned the water on, the hiss of the shower head pouring buckets of tepid water on her hair. She closed her eyes as the water ran down her face in trails that contrasted to her current temperature.
The rivers of liquid pooled at her feet and slid down the drain. Again, her mind wandered in emptiness, as if, not only the dirt and grime was being washed away, but her knowledge and ability to think. Her mind was going down the drain.
She reached for the bar soap, lathering her torso as the bubbles of soap popped with the contact of water. She set the soap back down, reaching for the Pantene bottle. A dollop of shampoo plopped into her hand and she massaged her scalp, in pure ecstasy now. Her mind was free of any reign and she could fly as she wanted, free to do whatever she wanted.
Unthinkingly, she slid down onto the wet tub floor as the shower water came down on her head, pounding against her ears. Yet, through all of the noise, there was bliss. Silent bliss. She shampoo had washed out of her hair and applied just a bit of conditioner, her now sleek dripping hair clinging to her bare back. She started to massage her head and gave a small cry of relief, feeling like mush, as if she got up, she’d end up on the floor again. But finally, she managed to turn off the water and step out of the shower, briskly drying herself with a lavender towel.
She slipped on some clothes, her legs clinging to the silky pajama pants she had just put on. She wriggled her arms through a small ragged tank top and brushed through her wet hair quickly, tying it back and not bothering to dry it. The strands were plastered to her back, pools of water being secreted from them. She closed her eyes and the lids drifted down, almost as if she were to fall asleep while standing up. She saw blobs now, her vision blurring from sleep as she slipped under the covers of her bed. Her head hit the pillow, and she slid into unconsciousness.
