He's my favourite Austen man. Mr. Darcy is a close second, but I just love Colonel Brandon more. Yes, I like way older men. Is there a problem with that? I love the way he was played by Alan Rickman in the 1995 film. I may have to watch that now, I have the DVD next to me. Anyone else completely adore Colonel Brandon? I want to be Marianne Dashwood.

Colonel Brandon ranks probably in my top three... perhaps even coming in a close 2nd (only to Captain Wentworth..awww).
Captain Wentworth Colonel Brandon Mr. Darcy
Yep, and, come on......if you're going to call mid-30's old, I might as well set up a retirement home now..
EDIT: I just watched that version of Sense and Sensibility the other night, after watching the PBS version and missing my Alan Rickman!!

Oh, my GOD!!! I LOOOOOOOVE Col. Brandon. I really loved Alan Rickman playing him, but David Morrissey in the new version was EXCELLENT as well.
My top three:
Mr. Tilney/Mr. Darcy (REAALLY close tie) Col. Brandon Capn. Wentworth

He's my second favorite of Austen's male characters, following Mr. Tilney. He was my favorite character of Sense and Sensibility. Marianne is very lucky to have such a dedicated man loving her.
Alan Rickman did a great job portraying him in the film. The newer version is good as well, but I still like him best as Col. Brandon.

I like him too!!!^^ I think he is by far a better husband to Marianna Dashwood than Willoughby. But I feel a bit sorry for him because he has lost Eliza... but anyway he das Marianne now^^

He's good. I like the Allen Rickman protrayal as opposed to the BBC miniseries from last year.

Well, in his defense, he's not only carrying her 120(-ish?) lbs, but it's up a hill...a slippery, wet hill. Not to mention their clothes are soaked, which in that era probably added another 10 pounds!

And considering she's also passed out, or near to passing out, she has all of her weight pushing down on him.

Colonel Brandon is my favourite of the Austen heroes.
But I'd rather be Elinor than Marianne.

Yeah, I suppose you're right... But I guess it would've been better on Alan Rickman's side if they used a dummy... neutral xp

I forgot we had a Col. Brandon thread. I definitely want to resurrect it, because he's become my favorite, even over Darcy, of awesome Austen men.
Both Alan Rickman and David Morissey were FANTASTIC. Comparison of looks:
