I'm just wondering: does anyone else in this guild make maille? I mostly make jewelry, but I've done the tip of a sword sheath armor-wise. I think I shall post a few of my pictures...

4-1 Cuff
It's held together around the back by a strip of leather laced corset-style.

Aura Necklace
This one was sold to a friend. Pain to make!

Bell Anklet
Made for the Renaissance festival I went to over the weekend. Annoying as all get out to a lot of people, nothing but fun for me.

Gold/Red Byzantine Necklace
I have a blue one that matches this one. This one is for a trade with a friend. She's sculpting the Black Pearl for me out of clay.

Persian Necklace
One of seven Full Persian 6-1 necklace I've made that are floating around campus.

Headdress
One of those "Can I do it?" things. Obvoiusly I can. Also wore this to the renaissance festival.

More can be found in my deviantART.

These are lovely! You must be very patient. I've done some work with maille but after a while it kills my fingers. If I were you I would definitely keep at it. You could probably do some really outstanding pieces!

Thank you!

I'm still learning. I try for two or three new things a week. I think my favorite is still Half Persian, though the one I just learned is kinda fun. Tomato Sandwich.

Kills your fingers? Do you stab them with the pliers? Or are you bending the rings with your fingers? I have to use pliers, but I've got a few scars from them and a bruise on my stomach.

It's not very tedious unless it's a very repetitive, easy pattern like a spiral or something. It's easy to pick up, and this website has a lot of helpful things and easy-to-follow instructions.

Yeah, I use pliers to but I still end up doing a lot of gross manipulation with my fingers. The rings I've worked with are a lot smaller too. Maybe I'll just leave it to the pros and take up nice gentle ikebana...

I have done some Chain work. I was trying to make a full torso piece but i moved >.< and i had not had time to finish it. It is really pretty O: But it hurts my fingers after a while, I use pliers and a metal rod so that i can fit the links just right biggrin

Actually... I think the Aura necklace took longest at around six hours. It's not that bad. Projects are spread out over a period of several days. I get a migrane if I try to work for more than three hours straight.

I work at medieval faires, and after my performances I would hide behind the maile tent and make stuff, byzantine is my favorite

Oh, coolness... I think the Persian necklace is my favorite out of those.

I still have my old mailling stuff, but I don't use it anymore. All of the stuff I made has been taken apart and remade so many times, I don't think there's a single complete piece in there, now.

I couldn't afford buying the rings, so I made them out of 18-gauge wire from the hardware store. Now that I've got the cash, I might be able to buy the tools for it, now that I think of it... But only if I can find really good ones.
