After rewatching PT episodes on YouTube and reading the comments, it's seems a lot of people are freaked out/disturbed/unhappy with the anthro animals in the series, such as the anteater, the penguin, and even Mr Cat. They just don't understand why they are even there.
I personally love the touch, and it adds even more whimsy to the story, which is a fairy tale, so it makes sense that there would be animals in human roles.
What do you think?

I agree n__n I enjoy the animals being there. They add a splash of lighthearted fun to the story at times, which just makes it even more entertaining!
Even more so than that though, I also appreciate their part in the fairy tale aspect of the story. The animals gaining human attributes and the humans gaining animal attributes are what highlight the fact that there's something off in Kinkan Town. The first time this is really addressed is right there in the first episode: Ahiru/Duck walks into dance class, and is shocked by the fact that the instructor is a cat. Her classmates, however, act as if things have always been so.
If this had been something common in the Tutu universe, then it would have just gone unnoticed as something special by everyone but the viewers. However, since Ahiru points it out as something extremely strange, we then come to suspect that something is going on, unique to the town itself.
Like for example, the head of the dance troupe that came through to perform Sleeping Beauty; he was an electric eel. Through the other members of the troupe, we get hints that this wasn't always so; that these animals are something unique to Kinkan, showcasing the fact that not only are Tutu, Mytho, and the other main characters "magical" aspects of the plot, but the town itself is steeped in magic, which is affecting the way reality should run.
Basically, they're just friendly little reminders, letting you know that Drosselmeyer's story is affecting more than just a few characters. Kinkan itself has become a part of the story, and the stories within it are being changed as well; not just what we experience first-hand with Tutu and her adventures with the heart shards, but subtly in the background as well.
... And there, I've ranted xD; But that's my spiel~

If anything, the lack of animals in the manga caused a lot of fans to be rather upset. Don't bother with the hoards on Youtube, most of those comments are from n00bs or people who don't pay attention. When I commented on a Swan Princess video someone asked what happened to Odette's father when if you actually pay attention you realize he freaking died!
