As THE Seras will testify, I am currently working on a tabletop turn based game revolving around Vampires. It's not entirely done yet, i've got a few rules to write up. However, I have got the "base" stats for a civillian (not intended for release, merely playtesting) and a Ghoul done.
So I decided to playtest my rules.
Seems like they work.

First off, let's meet the gamers.

Player one, Bert the Ghoul.
User Image

Player two, Fubby the Ghoul slayer!
User Image

Our contestants deploy.
User Image

TURN 1.
Fubby gets the movement priority, so she goes first.
She runs for the window.
Bert moves next. He shambles towards the building.
User Image
Next, bert gets the battle priority. However, Bert doesn't have a gun. And there's no one near enough to eat. So Fubby takes the floor, and fires at Bert's head. She scores a hit, but not a deadly one, only dealing two damage to him.

TURN 2.
Bert gets the movement priority, and tries to hide behind the barrels!
Fubby advances to the doorway for a better angle.
User Image
Fubby has the battle priority, and lets off another shot! Bang on target, in the head, but once again it fails to be critical. She scores another two damage.
Bert... "URRRH"s at her. Yeah. That'll do.

TURN 3.
Bert gets the movement priority! He declares a CHARGE, increasing his move range. He makes it in.
As Fubby is in combat, she can't move.
User Image
Bert gets battle priority. However... he has no hand weapon.
Luckily for him, he as a special rule. BITE.
He targets Fubby's face, and chows down for 5 damage.
As Fubby was charged, she's allowed to fire her pistol, but misses.
Bert's second special rule kicks in. Fear.
Fubby checks her courage, and promptly soils herself, fleeing 9 inches.
Bert somehow manages to chase her this far. He must really want food.

TURN 4.
As Bert managed to catch her, no one can move.
User Image
Fubby gets the battle priority, and as this is a -new- charge, She can fire again.
She gets off a non-critical but still direct hit, for 5 damage. Bert's head now only has ONE hitpoint left! another hit and he's a goner!
Bert tries to bite again, but he misses. Probably distracted by whatever she ties her hair back with... Damnit, Bert.
However, Bert, being dead, is scary. Fubby runs another NINE inches.
Bert decides to take a leisurely stroll merely three.
User Image

TURN 5.
Bert is lucky. He gets movement priority, and declares a charge. This means he can -just- make it to her.
User Image
Fubby has the battle priority... But somehow, she misses a shambolic corpse.
Bert meanders over to her and places a special lovebite on her face for 7 damage, wiping out the rest of her head's hitpoints.

POST BATTLE ASSESSMENT.
Fubby rolls a 6 for her wounds chart, resulting in a full recovery.

Bert managed to down one enemy, and make an enemy flee twice.
He gains one experience and two infamy.

You know, at megacon I found an RPG book for Hellsing. It was like a cross between WOD and D&D rules. However, somebody bought it before I could. I'm going to hunt it down online, though.

I have come a crossed the same thing in a bookstore.
The manual was quite small. It was very picture oriented.
I decided not to buy it for I believed I could do a better job on a Hellsing campaign with the Basic D&D rulings. The only really problem I find is D&D has some really complicated and lame rulings for air born battles.

This one wasn't really small...and not many pictures, so maybe there are 2 books? I prefer to use WOD's Vampire rules more. D&D rules never appealed to me - they're too restrictive.

I can see what you mean.
Then again making your own template is no problem in D&D.
There are so many variants of vampires created just with in the books written by Wizards of the coast. One can take that one step further and find variants made by fellow players on the D&D forums. The rules are so easily bent in D&D it's not even funny. ( Ahhh now all I am thinking about is the matrix).
Anyway....I hadn't had a chance to play any games with in the World of Darkness system. Since I am used to the restrictions and modifications of D&D I find them comforting. Restrictions just give me justification why a character can't be a god mod.

Which reminds me. Movement rules. So irritating in any Rpg I have ever played. So Jan what's with this inch stuff?

could it be cuz the models were from Games Workshop that it reminds you of 40k? razz
Bert the ghoul is a warhammer fantasy zombie, and fubby is converted from an old OOP necromunda model.
Vampires are written with the exception of their armoury.
I've moved on to military now. Organisation is sorted, units fielded are sorted, just needs a proper write up.
I get the feeling that the armouries are going to be the final thing done, after all three armies are written up..

Maybe it's just my eternal struggle with the d20 system. That die wants to kill me... There's just a comfort in having a handful of d10.
Play a little Vampire or Mage or Werewolf and you'll wonder how you ever liked the D&D system. Battles roll by pretty quickly, and there no trying to figure what base you add to what. The damage system is more realistic too.
Yeah, we just used the boards from Heroscape. Or just winged it.

I am always open to something new.
Too bad there nobody around that really plays many table top games around. The opinion around here seems to be "get halo or get out". Oh well prehaps some day. Then again....lol. Hey Ace if you ever need a place to stay in Oregon you can look me up. xp

*coughs*
i used to, until someone who shall remain nameless walked off with my dark side sourcebook, core book, and my SW gamer collection in college.
i was IN one of those magazines from celeb2 years ago! evil *fume and grumble.*

never did really master the understanding of the d20 system, that's why i play KOTOR now, it does all the math for you ^_^
(and morrowind, still my favorite elder scrolls game.)

and for the record, i've played halo for all of 5 minutes, and found it highly inferior to old-school DOOM for deathmatch play. also, cheap-a** pathetic "frag the noob" games while someone's trying to learn a new system make me want to beat the jerks over the head with their own xboxes.

Never even bothered with the vampire rpg games after the roomates were playing masquerade for a while and i came home from work to a dark room, flicked on the light, and got hissed at by a bunch of idiots in goth gear and plastic fangs playing by candelight.
flicked off the light, went to my room, and never looked back.

first of all, after glancing through the book for it once, they would have all immediately LOST the game by being idiots and dressing "like vampires" to play masquerade, the entire concept of the thing is apparently to prevent the other players from figuring out who's really the vampire or something like that.

i dunno, i don't have the attention span or free time for 5 month-long life-consuming campaingns anymore, so i don't play anything without buttons and a save point.

heroscape uses the octagonal grid system like the SWRPG, dosen't it?

and those figurines are awesome, and bert's all "super-zombie" in his little cape ^_^

lol I love ya, man. I really do.
Yeah, Morrowind pwns all. I played that game so much...had like 80 hours in it and I still hadn't done any of the main quest! Had a char that I customized to look like Alucard. Even made the sigil gloves and trench coat and red eyes.

Amen on Halo.

I hate that about vampire. It's prone to idiots. But it's an amazing game if you get a good storyteller and group that aren't raving goths. Actually, the point of the game is like any other RPG: stay alive, level, and complete your quests. The dif with Vampire is that you have more freedom to wheel and deal, to betray and forge loyalties. Most of the time all the players are Vampires, since it's a real pain to run cross-campaigns (like with Mage, Werewolf, and the others).

Heroscape uses hexagonal.

Gorenza>
Yeah, it's a shame that people want more "visual" games. Heh, don't know if I'll be in Oregon any time soon, but feel free to stop by if you're in FL!
