I just got it on DVD yesterday after hearing about it all the time. Apparently Disney doesn't like to brag too much about this film because it took such an insane amount of time to create, went waaaaaaay over budget and was supposed to be the definitive animated movie of the time. It caused a lot of disputes and it was during it's production that Tim Burton left Walt Disney animation. It also didn't do that well after release.
After hearing about it for so long, but never having seen it anywhere, I was suprised to find a copy in our local DVD/Music shop... so I bought it. I must say this film is really dark for my tastes, I'm sure there are a lot of people who will enjoy it maybe even because of that. I just don't find it to be something I would want my kids to watch.
Gurgi, the little creature on the cover, reminds me a LOT of Gollum in his speech. That was kind of cool in a way. I can't really decide if I liked it or not... guess I'm sort of neutral. I preferred The Sword In The Stone, which I bought just before this.
