personally, i really disliked this one. I hated how it cut off the majority of the love letters that anne wrote to Gil and you never really see a whole lot from Gil to Anne. I don't think that i have even completely finished this one. I think that the romance that should've occurred (they were engaged and separated after all, you would think that there would be a bit more romance.) really got skipped over. There were parts that i read that i liked a bit, but this book really has no comparison to any of the others.

i know, me too, i mean anne is always such a romantic person and we hear about her romance in her own stories so i know that her letters to Gil would be just so amazing.

i was sooo disappointed. i really wanted to read their love letters. And not being able to see Gil's side of the story really bugged me. She like, NEVER saw him in the 3 years.

Montgomery herself said that she would have liked to explore romance more explicitly and passionately - at least in the case of the Emily series - but that she was bound by publishing conventions. The Anne books were viewed as being for children, and so she couldn't write honestly and in an adult fashion about sexual attraction, just as in the case of Emily.

oh really? That's interesting.. I have never heard that. However it is kind of weird, considering the fact that in the last book, it is pretty much centered on the war, and that isn't very child-friendly imo. Of course, at the time that these stories were written, the beleifs were far different, like, children weren't allowed to do the same things that children today are.
