haha nice. I just picked it up from the library today, and I'm already 4 chapters in. It's really good though. You'll love it. Especially after you've read all of the books.

You'll Zoom through those, i hope . I am almost half-way through the prequel and I've only had it for two days. It's good, but definitely not L.M. Montgomery. It's got a different way of writing to it. I adore it, but it's not the same. The prequel is very fast-paced, but it hooked me so much onto the characters that i almost cried when Bertha and Walter died. ( you already know that right?)

Well, I finished the book tonight, and while good, definitely not the same. Beyond the obvious of a different author and different writing style, it just didn't feel the same. The language was different and I wasn't as pulled into Anne's world as with the original books.
However, now there is a history to match Anne's bits and pieces of her past and one author's view of how her story unfolded is written to paper and there for the general public to read. Even if it doesn't give off the same vibe as the originals.
It's a good standalone book. And a good attempt at Anne's past. Makes sense too and is highly enjoyable for what it's worth.
...And I don't know if anyone else caught this, but am I the only one who was annoyed by the use of the term "boyfriends"? I can't be the only one, least I hope not. That's not a term ever used in the original books and I'm pretty sure it was not a term used then... they had beaus!

I agree completely with you Rose, the book wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't the same as L.M.'s. The writing was just in a completely different style than the series, and Anne just wasn't the same. Budge Wilson also didn't use very appropriate language for the time period that she was writing for. It was definitely written in the style of Historical Fiction, and that alone made it have a different feeling. I did enjoy the book more or less though, and I did laugh or go "OH MY GOSH! THAT'S WHERE SHE GOT IT FROM!" quite a few times. I would recommend this book, just not as strongly as i would recommend the originals.

Have you reached the Hammonds' house yet? Anne gives one of the cats a very funny name. rofl

I've seen it in the bookstore, but haven't bought it yet. I have very mixed feelings about an Anne book that wasn't written by Montgomery. Anne was such a product of her own life-experiences -- the loss of her parents, and the longing for a loving home -- that it's hard to imagine another author being able to do her justice.

i finished this book today and i can honestly say that i loved it. it isn't LM montgomery by any means but its sweet and heart felt and sad and Anne. there is so much Anne in there that i was happy to let my feelings of preconcieved errors fade away and just let the little girl Anne grow up into the anne that we know and love so much. i know the language was different but take into consideration the author and even though she is an elderly lady on the verge of 90 she had maybe a closer grasp on the story then we do and so her interpretation though not montgomery's generation but she's not ours either and so it is going to be different. i really liked it.
