hi, I'm xj472 your friendly neighborhood mule, but you can call me Zbot. read through the rules until you understand them, and if you can't understand them then you need to PM me or another mod so that we can either adjust the rules so that they are understandable, or explaine them to you. if you break a rule you will be warned, three warnings makes you a probationary member, three more warnings while under probation gets you banned. probationary period depends on the infraction and severity of the transgression. ok, that all clear? 1) follow the gaia Terms of Service arrow (TOS)2) read the anti-munch project and post in your join request your favorite type of munchkin arrow anti-munch3) never make a new thread without requesting it on the arrow thread request sticky and having it appoved by me, Zbot. 4) post an intro in the arrow intro thread5) follow the rules of the threads. each thread has its own set of rules and we enforce these as strictly as the TOS itself. 6) if a rule, or a person says to PM them with questions, that means PM them, not post. (I see this too often to not do something about it, and now I can, mwahahahaha) 7) have fun! i order you to have fun, gad dammit!

Here in the Umbra we will have many different threads for any and all subjects. These are the ones I've come up with so far. Any ideas for a new type PM me. theads can be identified by certain codes at the beginning or ending of the thread title.
Role-playing; for short, we call these threads RPTs, Role-Playing Threads. if you don't know what role-playing is, you're in the wrong guild. code: special- see next post
Information; mostly info for RPTs if all the info cannot be contained in one or two posts on the thread, but also for lists of things like links or whatever. code: [INFO]
Out of Character; threads for conversation, discussion, or whatever. if you're tired of RPing and just want to hang out post on one of these threads. code: [OOC]
Trade; the Umbra is a trading post of sorts. we hold auctions, trade goods and services and a few other things that arn't available right now due to the new nature of this guild. code: [TRADE]
Mini-shops; seperate from trade we have people with mini-shops, selling things like banners, sig pics, avi pics, and pets. as well as anything else people can think of to sell you on gaia. code: [SHOP]
Art; we will have threads for art. individual gallaries and libraries as well as places for group projects or interests. drawing, painting, photos of other art, graphic art, photoshop, poems, prose, stories, fan fiction, anything. code: [ART]
Games and Contests; for those who love to win prizes we will have games. raffels, tournaments, contests, etc. code: [GAME]

there different types of RPT and i have been able to categorize all of the ones i have heard about into four (five) types.
Adventure: the RPG most people like to play. this is where you and your party go out and kill monsters on some glorious quest.
Living: the RPG without a plot. most of the time this type comes in the form of a bar, or inn, cometimes as large as a whole city or country. your character basicly just goes about their daily life, talking to people and shopping for goods or going to jobs or whatever
Survival: it's a war, or the end or the world, or something else that makes simple existance hard. like the Living type, your character may not actually have a grand scheme or quest, he's just trying to survive. you can do that by killing the opposing forses or simply enduring the harsh sand storms or hurricanes that the particular world is prone to.
Challenge: ths type you may not have to kill monsters. but then again you may. this the more mental of the four types, it requires knowing your character and then becoming your character for the amount of time it takes to post. mental challenges, physical challenges, and especially emotional/spiritual challenges are common. always will you be expected to perform to your utmost capasity.
Any-thing goes: i added this RPT type because it's bound to come up eventually. total RP free-for-all, no plot, no setting, no purpose, just RP for the hell of it. this is the only place the anti-munch guide does not apply.
those are the types. in addition there are a few differnt classes of RPT
[SERIOUS] no OOC comments, more than one paragraph per post. very descriptive. you will be expected to know the world you are working in so most serious RPT's will have an info thread to read as well as the actuall setting.
[LITIRATE] few OOC comments (at the discretion of the author) five or more sentances per post. a little bit more leniant than serious, but you are still expected to be a compitant RPer.
[BUSY] people post fast, maybe one line at a time. it's not a very serious RPT and confusions tend to occur regulary especily if there are a lot of posts before someone has a chance to post again. i don't approve of this type, but some people like the fast pace and lack of reading material.
[CHATTY] OOC comments common. like busy only even less professional. people can post whatever they want.

RP skillz can determine how much your salary is, whether you win a tournament, and how much respect you get in the guild.
the heirarchy is thus:
10>someone that posts detailed descriptions no matter what type of RPT he's in, even chatty.
8>someone that posts according to what RPT he's in, long and detailed for serious, descriptive for litirate, functional for busy and whatever for chatty.
6>someone that only writes/plays serious RPTs.
5>someone that only writes/plays serious and litirate RPTs.
3>someone who writes serious RPTs but prefers to RP in chatty places.
2>someone who will write RPTs but not RP with anybody.
1>someone who only posts in chatty/busy RPTs.
1>a non RPer.
and then within those there's:
6>so creative you wonder what planet they're from.
5>creative, yet down to earth.
2>cliched beyond reason.
1>"i only write what i see"
