Scoliosis is a back...I dont want to say disorder, but its a back mutation in a way. The back curves and in worst cases twists. Doctors do not diagnose it as scoliosis until the degree of the spine is 10 or greater.

There are 4 main types of scoliosis:
Congenital
Neuromuscular
Degenerative
Idiopathic

Congential- Normally originats when there is an abnormal formation of the spine or spinal cord while the child is just an embyo. This is a rare type of scoliosis. It is often due to failures of formation or segmentation of the spine. This means that from the outside when bent over, the person's back looks straight, but when looked at from different angles looks like they are leaning to one side.

Neuromuscular- The curvatur mostly occurs by the tailbone. The curve progresses during growth spurts. Patients often need a wheelchair. The tailbone muscles weaken, and create the spine to for into a C shape, and makes it impossible for the patient to sit up straight.

Degenerative- Occurs in middle of spine. As joints degenerate (to fall below a normal or desirable level in physical qualities) they create a bend in the spine. This leades to arthritis.

Ideopathic- There is no known cause for it, it just appears in the patients spine.

Scoliosis spears more in females than in males. However Ideopathic shows up more in boys than girls.

There are 4 types of Ideopathic scoliosis.

1) Infintile- occurs when the child from birth to 3. Most kids have infintile scoliosis, but grow out of it.

2) Juvenile- Appears between the ages of four and ten.10 to 15% of all idiopathic scoliosis is found, or occurs during juvenile years.

3) Adolescent- occurs in children from 11 thru teen years. As I said before most cases appear during juvenile years, however they are normaly not diagnosed until adolescent years.

4) Adult- once someone reaches skeletal maturity it is considered adult scoliosis.

Treatment for scoliosis is simply to brace, surgery, and sometimes absolutely nothing.

there is more to say, if you are interested let me know.

I will talk about the kind of curves that scoliosis makes, and regions in the spine scoliosis affects.

If you go to my profile you will see my back and how my back was before my second surgery and how it is now. My surgery is probably the the worst scoliosis surgery that a person would have, all the other ones aren't as bad because they put only a little bit of metal, but for some like me we get metal rods put in.

I have a question. Is scoliosis deadly or does it just make life hard? Has anyone with scoliosis ever died from it? Just wondering.

If it gets severe enough yes you actually could die from it. But for most people it just makes life hard. For me, if we would have let it gone untreated, I would have kept arching to the right, and my ribs would of collapssed, and grushed my lungs and I would have died. Im sure some people have probably died from it, and Im sure it was very slow and painful. crying

I have adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. I have two curves. The upper one is 52 degrees and the lower one is 39. I have to wear a scoliosis brace 21 hours in the day.
Facts:
1. Scoliosis isn't a disease or diagnoses. Stop saying it is please. It is a term describing when someone's spine is curved over 10 degrees.
2. You can die from scoliosis if you have it as an infant or if you have it bad enough. You ribs could close in on your lungs and possibly crush them.
3. There are 2 ways to attempt to treat scoliosis: A brace or surgery. I have a Boston Brace, but as it isn't working, surgery may be in my future.

Also a question for anyone wearing a brace too: I got a big lump on my back from where my brace was rubbing. I got it fixed, but the lump is still uncomfortable even though the brace isn't rubbing anymore. What should I do to it?

I have Scoliosis
I don't know of anyone who's ever died from it/
But there are people who die with it/
But then again/
It can cause other problems like complications with your lungs and heart/
Depending on the severity/
.It makes life hard
.It can cause pain
{But.We deal with it}

_a bittersweet tragedy
