The roguelands were a dangerous place for a lonely traveler. Even more so when the traveler is a female. However, for Paka, unbeknownst to her, things were about to change.
She had been searching for answers for quite some time now with no luck. Her family had just vanished completely. She had no idea where home was or is now for them. All she could was wander and hope to find someone somewhere who could point her in the right direction.
And that's exactly what was about to happen.

Alone and alert, Umeme scaned the sea of grass from atop a hill. The sun beat down on his dark fur since the only clouds that were in the sky were few and far between. He hoped that he might be of some use to some damsel in distress sometime soon. He'd even settle for a desperate gentleman in distress as long as they're distress brought them past soon.

Paka happened to be lazily coming up that very same hill the Umeme had taken lookout upon. As she neared the top of it she spotted the large black and white mass sitting alert and unmoving. She was unsure whether she should bother him or not. He seemed intent on something and it would be a shame if it was her fault he messed up on something important.
She decided to just leave him be and head in another direction. The grass crunched a little under her paws as she turned away.

With the cruch of the grass, Umeme's head swivled around to face her as she started to walk away. The last thing he would let her do is walk away without him finding out if he could her her out in some way! He never realized how nosey he really was and probably never will.
He called out to her before she got out of ear shot. "Hello there, Miss! May I assist you?"

It took Paka a second to realized who was speaking to her though once the light bulb went on she turned to face him. "Hi. Um, well... maybe." She took a step towards him. With hesitation she asked him, "Do you know much about the world around us?"

Slightly perplex, he did not answer her right away. He first thought about what she could mean by the question and then he spotted her strange tattoo around her eye. It didn't look natural, but it was not new since it looked slightly distorted from growth so it must have been added quite some time ago. He didn't know many that willingly put themselves through that kind of procedure.
Then he remembered. He had once heard of a pride of lions that tattooed their young and the older members had almost their entire bodies covered in them. What was their name....? El... El something...
"I hate to divert the subject, but may I ask where you got that strange marking?"

She hadn't heard what she wanted, but maybe he did know something useful. She indulged him in what she knew. "I don't know. I've had it for as long as I can remember." She hadn't put her eye marking's origin up to much scrutiny, but it was indeed a good question to ponder.

He hoped she had known more than that, but the fact that she had no recollection of getting it may or may not have proved that she was part of this marked pride. He changed the subject back to the original matter she had asked about. "Well, I know that there is a pride that tattoos their entire bodies gradually through out growth. They live up near the mountains I think." He wasn't entirely sure since he did not go on the mountain, but he had heard talk of them from people nearby.

Paka thought about the night her family accidentally left her behind. She could remember her father being covered in markings; her mother, too. Maybe this pride was the one she had been looking for all along.
"This pride, is there anyway you could point me in the right direction?" Even just a gesture would set her on her way. She had finally received the piece of information that could bring her and her family together again and she wasn't about to waste anymore of her time.

This was his finest moment. Helping a long-lost daughter return to her worried family after years of separation. Well, he didn't know it yet, but that is what this moment is.
He didn't actually know the right direction, but he knew where mountains were and that was good enough for him however he would not leave her to fend for herself. "Miss, I can escort you to their front gate if you so wish me to."

Unsure of his motives, Paka was reluctant to accept his offer as an escort. She did not answer him right away, but eventually she told him that "I'd certainly like some company on the way there. Plus since you are a little bit bigger than I am the protection is greatly appreciated." She knew she wasn't as lean as the other lionesses roaming the savannah, but she was not much of a fighter unless her opponent was fairly inexperienced and therefore her weight was more of a hinderence than an aide.

He had a charge now. He could live happy for a few days or however long it took to find these elusive pride members. He turned his large body to face the direction of the mountains then turned his face back towards Paka.
He smiled at her. "Shall we then?"

The vague faces of her family suddenly came to mind as he lloked back at her. She smiled back at him and didn't answer. She stepped towards him and then past him. She was finally going to find her family and his silly questions would not be able to waste her time.
