I kid you not. I found this on ANN. I don't know about you, but it seems kind of stupid to me for a company to license a title, DUB it, show the first two dubbed episodes at Ohayocon, stream the first 3 episodes for free online, AND put a preview for it on at least one of their DVDs (Wallflower v2)...and then for them to just give it up to another company to do an entirely new dub for it.

I smell something fishy going on...

The North American distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its New York Comic Con 2008 panel at 17:43 on Friday that it has licensed Hiroyuki Imaishi and Gainax's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime series. Another distributor, ADV Films, had announced at Anime Expo 2007 in July that it had licensed this series. However, ADV Films then removed this series and many others from its catalog in January, and did not restore Gurren Lagann's place in its catalog when the other titles returned in February.

The story begins on a future Earth where people are forced to live in isolated underground villages. One boy uncovers a key to a robot, and the resulting adventures put him in the battles waging on the surface and lead him to the secrets behind humanity's new existence.

The second, however, came entirely out of left field, to cheers and gasps of surprise from the audience. Aniplex and Bandai Entertainment will be bringing out the North American release of Gurren Lagann. To get this highly anticipated anime out to fans as soon as possible, there will be two separate releases. In July, August, and September, the entire series will be brought out in a bare-bones sub-only format, at nine episodes per DVD. This will be followed in the first months of 2009 by a more standard release, containing both the original Japanese audio and a completely new English dub. Scenarios for online distribution are also being considered.

I'm down. As long as they get the voices right.

This was a pleasant surprise. I hope the limited edition DVDs that come out next year have lots of nice extras like the Haruhi and Lucky Star limited editions. (Also from Bandai.)

I was actually interested in hearing ADV's dub to see if it was any good or not, but I guess it'll never see the light of day now. I hope Bandai's dub turns out really good.

Bandai confirmed that Shimon's name will be pronounced Shi-moan not sai-man. They will begin showing the dub on Sci-fi on ani-mondays starting the end of July.

Yups. Apparently, a Gurren Lagaan game will come out eventually. Not sure if it will hit American shores, though.

Voices were ok... There were some changes

For example its Team Gurren not Gurren brigade in the Dub

Also Its Gunmen Not Ganmen in the Dub as well

Ritona - littner

Yoko Is voiced by Rukia if you know bleach, Simon's voice is ok. Leeron sounds as strait as a line that was repeatedly bent over a chair. Kamina's voice is disappointing and there really aren't any others to speak of yet.

There has been a DVD release of the original up to episode 9 with English subs. The subs reflect the English dub more than the Japanese version.

          WHAT?!

I LOVED the voices. <3 I think everyone's so far is
perfect, though I'll admit, I had to get used to Kamina
and Simon. And I am in love with Leeron's. Blum did extremely
          amazing. <3

I am super duper impressed with the dub. So far
I think everyone's done an amazing job. <3
