Please, all criticism is dandy. This was for a school literary magazine. I've already turned it in but may use it in a larger story that i'm currently writing.So... if you have any quotes about wolves like this:
"Love the wolf and he will appear kind, fear him, and all he does is evil." *thanks constomar* please give them to me. i need them.

Kathleen ran her fingers along the wood of her daughters cradle. She knew the men were accustomed to her standing here like this. If she looked at them though when they entered, they may see the treachery in her eyes .Well, not treachery, more like her undue interest in her husband’s work with the military. Usually, when the men came over for a drink and a comfortable seat she paid little attention. She would have still followed this customary ignorance of men’s business if not for the secret. The one her husband betrayed with every worried glance at his daughter and every strangely hurried good-bye when he had no war to fight.
“Kathleen, can you make some tea? We have some guests.”
“Of course, Daniel, is there anything else you want?” Kathleen said forcing herself to smile at him.
“Can you show them Mina? Nobody’s seen the lady pup in an awfully long time!” Daniel said smiling in a way that made him seem more like a boy asking for candy than a man asking for his daughter.
“Mina is almost asleep. I don’t want her to be kept awake. You know how you and your friends get around her. She isn't even a pup anyhow. She is a little girl who needs her sleep.” Kathleen waited for one of his normal protests but it didn’t come.
“Just get the tea, okay?” He said obviously frustrated but not enough to start a argument with observers. Kathleen nodded and drifted in the kitchen. She got the ingredients out of the cupboard but what held her attention was the conversation in the next room.
“All I’m saying is that it’s very likely we’ll be doing in our lifetime. We have the skills and the government seem willing” One man said who was an old friend of Daniels. His name was David.
“What he means is that we know how to fight and the guys in charge like the idea of taxing more land. Either way you look at, we’re going to be invaders again.”The newcomer said who Kathleen didn’t know.
In the kitchen Kathleen fell down glad of the decision to not to pick the hot water pot up too soon. Her mind whirled. How could these men do that? Talking of invasion of invasion by the wolf army was wrong and twisted. And how could they invade “again?” The wolf army had never been invaders that she knew of. She had always told her husband he belonged to the most peaceful army on earth. How could she that wrong?
“But we promised the magic users when they created the stones, that allowed us to transform, never to that again.” Joseph said obviously used to redirecting this sort of conversation.
“Come now, you how old those magicians are. They’ll probably be dead by the time everyone agrees to invade. Besides, we could do with a few girl members.” The stranger said, glancing at the cradle.
“You mean to say the plan for my daughter isn’t defender but invader?” Daniel shocked but still listening. Kathleen unable to stand the way this conversation n was going in returned to the men carrying mugs of tea. She nodded at her husband to acknowledge that she should have brought it sooner. She turned her back to them and headed back to the cradle. She began to sing softly while waiting for the men to begin talking again.
“You have to be kidding me! You have more of a problem with your daughter invading Kevel, than with yourself invading Creel!” David said whispering loudly obviously remembering there were some people who weren’t soldiers in the room. It whispering did no good though. Kathleen hear and the shock ran through her forcing her squeeze the crib to stop herself from gasping.
“That was a secret and it was for their own good! Besides it isn’t I who has the problem with it, it’s Kathleen. It’s hard enough for the healer in her to wife to a soldier. She can’t be mother to a future invader. You already know that, I’ve told you a thousand times how long it took for me to convince her about just the birthing ceremony.” Joseph said this but his face said differently. It said he agreed and was just trying to make his arguments the truth when he told her years from now. The idiot! Did he think she was brainless with no ears? The men continued talking but they had moved on to such specifics as formations of invading forces, things that did her no good. What she did hear among her thinking, said more than enough to horrify her. The time for quiet agreement with Daniels commands was over.
Three months after that night of discoveries a death would take place. The death of Daniel Roberts Knougtly occurred during a small border war. He left behind him a wife and daughter. His wife, Kathleen, disappeared the day after his funeral taking only her daughter and savings. Kathleen after discovering the plan for her daughter began to plan. Mina may be the daughter of a fighter but she was also the daughter of a healer. Kathleen’s daughter was going to be a defender. To make sure this happened Kathleen moved to a small village. She told her neighbors her husband was the killed a innocent bystander during a recent border war. She tried to forget the secret and lived as what she was, a healer. Kathleen planned to tell Mina who she was at age eighteen. Until then, Mina was be a normal child in a normal village hidden away from those who may use her for violence.

Thank you! Usually I get my Mum or sis to edit but my had just edited about fourteen pages of something else. I didn't want to bother her. Trust me, you don't want see the rest of this *shudder* its not really even about the same people. Its about the daughter who grows up as a mute. rolleyes My story telling skills need serious work. I still have a hard time making sure my characters movements around a military base are consistent.

beta...? Huh?

A beta reader is someone who reads over your work, corrects mistakes and gives you feedback on it, sort of like an editor but less formal.

So she's offering to be your beta reader if you want.

I assume it's called 'beta' because it's the second person to read it (since I guess you're the alpha reader, right?)

Just thought I'd answer that question. ^_^

“All I’m saying is that it’s very likely we’ll be doing it in our lifetime. We have the skills and the government seem ”seems” unless you were going for the dialect willing” One man said

Kathleen hear and the shock ran through her forcing her to squeeze the crib to stop herself from gasping.
This makes a lot more sense now.

Not bad, and it's expected to be about the daughter. She is a big, if silent, part of that whole scene.

EDIT:

I'm not a she...
