Introduction --->

Hey! My name's Katie and I'm a fashion designer.
I have a rather different medium...I make things out of Duct Tape!

This is my deviantART.

User Image

I started making things out of tape when I was 13 years old. I'm now 21 and have perfected my skill.
I hope to one day really get my business off the ground and maybe eventually make it my only source of income.
xD But that day's still a long way off.

Current Projects --->

SO....the Mona Lisa project totally failed. xDD

Now I'm working on fixing some of my stuff that got messed up when I moved.
My favorite being a bag I made out of camo and army green tape to represent the movie/tv show, M*A*S*H.
(Will be added to Past Projects when done.)

I'm also not currently taking commissions because of a lack of monetary funds.
I AM, however, still making stuff out of what I have and those are for sale on my deviantART account.
(In first post.)

Past Projects --->

In order of newest to oldest...these are my past projects.

Going Green --->
This was an order from a friend of mine. So, I dubbed this "Going Green" in honor of Earth day! (That and because it's green...) I recycled grocery bags to make the handle. Not only is it stylish, it's also eco-friendly!
User Image

Bubblewrap is Inspiration --->
This is yet another product of recycling! This time, I used and old belt buckle, a small notebook and bubblewrap! It's a little tough to tell in the picture, but it's actually light pink bubblewrap. Once you pop, you just can't stop!
User Image

Gotta Catch 'em All --->
I actually made this one out of not only tape but pokemon cards! This is gotta be my all time fave; c'mon, who doesn't love Pikachu? I got the Pikachu decal on an awesome pokemon shirt I got at Hot Topic. <----*free plug for Hot Topic*
User Image

Purple Coin Purse --->
This coin purse is the cutest and handiest little thing! Features a zipper with a purple heart shaped zipper pull which I made of tape, and decorative embroidery edging. Use it for spare change, to keep a mini sewing kit in...my mom uses hers as a coupon pouch. There's no end to the possibilities! Well..unless you're dead bent on fitting a bread box in there...then it's pretty safe to say it ends.
User Image

Camo Wallet --->
This is a hunter's dream wallet. A billfold completely made from tape, this wallet is extra thick to keep it waterproof and it's stylish too! Features foliage camouflage duct tape and orange hunting tape. Perfect for boating and land hunting, fishing, or just to have for the heck of it!
** Fashions That Stick! does not take any responsibility if this high fashion wallet happens to make you extremely attractive to ducks, deer, and/or bears.
User Image

Rock 'n Roll --->
It's time to rock and roll with this cool wallet! This billfold will certainly catch some eyes and show off the music lover in you! Completely tape. I even made the cute to little note decals out of black tape...which was not an easy task mind you. Note: Having this wallet will not necessarily make you a gifted musician.
User Image

Watermelon --->
Doesn't this one just make your mouth water? Another creation completely made from tape. A small messenger type bag, prefect for summer parties or anytime you wanna add a little color and stand out. (( Duct tape bags should not be eaten...unless your colon is made of cement...))
User Image

Tin Man --->
The inspiration for this awesome messenger bag was the tin man from the wizard of oz. This took me literally DAYS of embroidery but it was so worth it in the end....I fell in love with it. Completely tape aside from the stitching and the three safety pins holding the broken heart together. Awww....
** It is not recommended to safety pin or duct tape an actual human heart back together. Now staples on the other hand might work....
User Image

Casino --->
Now here's where I decided to get really creative. This cute purse is made of a deck of playing cards and tape. It even has a zipper! Black and white handle. Features small rhinestones in the corners. You'll certainly be turning heads in the casino! Just try not to lose it in a poker game...
User Image

Checker'd --->
This is an eye catching clutch that works well for any occasion. And we all know that black and white is so in! It is completely tape aside from the three small rhinestones on the front flap. Perfect for a party, just to take shopping...or at the very least it's good camouflage for when you decide to go cow tipping.

I heart your stuff! It is so cool, I am a very big fan. *nods*
I reckon you could market that stuff and make a fortune. Especially if you market it as dresses, there is a huge eco-fashion business and you could break right into it.
Here are some links to check out.

Well, I'm no expert but why not! Wouldn't it be cool to be globally recognised and paid for doing something you love so much (which you obviously do because I imagine it takes a lot of patience)

Thanks! I actually have an online business I started, but it's a little slow to take off.
I mostly only get orders from friends of mine.
I am gonna check out some local stores though and see if they'll set me up a booth or some such.
Like how I've seen tons of those purses made from old juice pouches and stuff.

OMG! All of your stuff is SO amazing!! Do you buy colored duct tape or do you color it yourself for the checkered patterns? Where do you find so many different colors??(if you buy it that is)
PostPosted: Tue Apr 29, 2008 4:58 pm

I buy the colored tape. :3
I get most colors at Walmart, but recently, they stopped selling the primary green and orange colors. :/
I found orange at Hobby Lobby, but I've yet to find green.
You can, of course, order it online, but It's a real waste of money when you only need one roll and the cost of shipping alone would buy you three rolls at Walmart.
So, I sometimes use ribbon if I can't find the right color of tape. But ribbon is really expensive so I try to find the tape first.
