Bowling for Columbine is a documentary filmed by director, Michael Moore. This is the second film I've seen by him. I first watched Farenheit 9/11, though I don't really trust all the information. In Bowling for Columbine, however, I believe what he shows. The documentary surrounds the events leading up to, and taking place after the Columbine Massacre. For those of you who do not know what that is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbine_High_School_massacre He asks the question for why Americans have so many more gun murders each year, and still comes up with no answer. Even the reasons most people think of are not correct; history of violence, racism, more accesibility to firearms, violence in media; as this is the situation in other countries. While countries like Germany, England, Japan, Canada, and others only have deaths in couple hundred or less each year, America has over 10,000. So what is the reason for gun violence? I have an idea. Please continue this discussion about the gun problem or the film itself. I will share my idea when there is someone listening.

I don't think there is one answer to this question. I do think that people in the USA are quicker to use a gun than thier fist's !!! It seems these people are afraid of an a** kicking. But, at least after a fist fight, both parties live to fight another day. I don't believe that guns are the problem !!!

I dont believe guns are the problem either. I only had the information from the movie, so i don't know the total number of murders each year. Just murders by gun. In my opinion, the problem is heavily affected by drugs. This opinion comes directly from my US History teacher. He had been in the NYPD, but retired early when he was shot. He said that the problem is drugs being illegal, as 80% of murders in the USA are drug related. If drugs were legal, the crime would significantly drop. I don't know if I am making sense, but for how he presented this, it made sense to me. I don't advocate using illegal drugs, but if it solves the murder problems, allowing those drugs to be legal may be the best route.

I'm not a big fan of Michael Moore at all. I find him very one sided on his opinions. But, I did actually like this documentary. I don't think that guns are the main problem. I think that the people using them are. People are way too fast to go to their guns because it is an "easy" solution to a problem. People need to own up and deal with their issues instead of shooting someone to "make them go away".

FOR EVERYONE...please say at least what country you are from. I am from the USA

Hmmm…well I can’t answer for any other country but my own. I’m from the USA as well. I really couldn’t think of any other reason people would need to own a gun other than for protection reasons. I do think that too many people own guns and it does cause more crimes than need be. Living close to NYC I see too many accidental shootings happening. Most people in the US take the 2nd Amendment too seriously, not realizing that this amendment was created during a time of war on US soil for “organized state militias”, not for individuals.

do you think the second amendment should be revoked? i think it would cause more harm than good. many crimes take place with illegally owned guns anyways, so outlawing them wouldnt do anything. also, it is is a problem with accidental shootings, are you talking about them accidentally harming other people, or harming themselves? if it is people harming themselves, it is their own responsibility, and the government should have any say in that. i would not own a gun, just because i dont like guns, but i dont think others should be outlawed from owning them.
