A brief introduction:

I am 16 and have been riding on and off for many years. I ride English, mostly, and my favorite thing to do is jump. I can't afford my own horse currently, but hope to be a horse owner someday. I am home schooled, so I get to spend as much time as possible at the barn. I have gone through three different riding instructors, only really liked riding with the first one, who doesn't teach anymore.

This summer, I am riding a little gelding named Lucky, on the farm of a lady who has five other horses. She doesn't have time for him, so she found my add on craigslist looking for a place to ride. Lucky is a 14.2h bay Morgan/Standardbred who is about 11 years old. He was rescued when he was 3 or four. He had been kept in a tiny stall, never seeing the light of day, since he was weaned. He was rescued by a farrier who saw him there, and bought him. The farrier rehabilitated Lucky, and trained him as a western pleasure horse.

He is very good on the ground, stands well, and is perfectly obedient, though he gets rather nervous since he isn't used to me yet. Right now he is kind of goofy looking, still shedding his winter coat, so he's patchy, and he doesn't have much muscle tone.

I have pretty much free rein with him this summer, and the barn owner wants him worked hard and gotten in shape. I plan to train him to be ridden English, and maybe do some jump training on the lunge line. He is a really smart little pony, and I am really excited to work with him this summer!

P.S. Comments welcome. ^_^

Well, I went and visited Lucky again a few days ago, and I probably won't be going back. I can't stand his owners and how they treat their horses. They aren't all-out abusive, but they are mean and rude. They yell and b***h at the horses for no reason, and talk about dominating the horse and 'make him obey you'. Personally, I have always thought riding was about forming a bond of trust and agreement between you and the horse, not scaring and slapping him into submission. I definitely need to find somewhere new to ride!

I didn't even end up riding Lucky because he threw the owner's daughter last week, so I got put on another of their horses in a GIANT western saddle, rode circles around the round pen, and got yelled at to 'put yer a**hole in the saddle girl! You ain't riding english!'

God(dess) send me a new place to ride before I go crazy from horse addiction withdrawals!
