Y'know, one of the bigger Cleris defenses against her only seeing Zack in Cloud was that she asks to know the 'real' Cloud, during their date. Well, I don't see it as, I realize there's another part of you, and that's the part I love. I see it as, I can tell this isn't quite right, something's off. I want to find out if it is the real you I love, or the part that reminds me so me of him.
I think that's kinda how I alway took that, so for me it's more of a Zeris proof than a Cleris one. -shrug-
Also, it kinda struck me as, I know you're going through something terrible and I want to help you if I can. Please show me the real you so I can help kinda thing. It didn't necessarily even have to be a statement posed as a loving one, but a friendly concerned one.
What do you guys think?

I completely agree. Never made sense when people tried to make that line sound like she knows the real him. She's saying she doesn't know him, and therefore 'wants to meet him'. Just because she has interest in getting to know the real Cloud doesn't mean she loves him. The Ultimania somewhere also makes reference to this saying that Aeris has an ability to sense the person beneath the facade... doesn't say she can see it or know it, but that she can tell the facade is there.

Exactly. I don't know why they assume something has to be love just because a girl says something kind to a boy, or sees that there's something wrong with him. I think the Cloud and Aeris relationship best suits that of close friends, and what friend wouldn't want to see the person hiding underneath the persona of their first love? I imagine she was very confused at that point, and was finally trying to make a stand and will herself to sort it all out.

"I have in my hands the means, and in my heart, the will." Don't you see, CCC? Aeris is the perfect character, and therefore EVERYONE in the game must adore her as well as those who play the game. Those who like Cloti are the spawn of the devil, and Tifa clearly loves Zack, visa versa. Also, since Aeris is the perfect angel of all that is FF, she must then get the person she truly loves which is Cloud. Aeris mimicks Zack, sees Zack in Cloud, and doesn't know who the real Cloud is. But because Aeris is holy and a goddess, she was still able to see Cloud's true feelings, and understand him more than Tifa who has known him her entire life.
Not to mention that because Tifa was the one to put Cloud's memory together, it doesn't mean anything. Why? Because if Aeris was alive she would've been able to help Cloud because "she could sense the real him even though she hadn't known him for long. That's how amazingly super special awesome she is!"
Aeris cannot act friendly to Cloud without it being romantic, because Aeris deserves the best because she is so sweet and kind and did I mention PERFECT?!
She gets every guy she sees, especially when she deserves the hottest guy ever who is CLEARLY CLOUD, LOLOL!!!
[/sarcasm on this whole paragraph or so. -bitter-]
In all honestly, I saw Aeris as being friendly. It's like Cloud saying he would miss Aeris when she died, and that his eyes were burning from the tears, and that his heart cracked like an egg.
"Cloud's heart cracked like an egg, guys! IT NEVER CRACKED LIKE AN EGG WHEN ZACK DIED!"
Kira forbid that Cloud be sad that his friend was skewered right in front of his very eyes. >_> Not to mention, the Ultimania states that Clouds memory was HAZY when it came to Zack because of the mako poisoning inflicted on him at the time. Thought they never say Clouds heart "cracked like an egg", you'd have to have some very BIASED pair of glasses on to assume Cloud's heart didn't break when Zack died. Because Aeris is a female, it suddenly means that Cloud loves her, haha. Even though CC, CC Ultimania proves that Aeris and Zack had a strong LOVE, and NOT just a crush/fling. We see this continued in FFVII as Aeris does almost everything the way Zack WANTED her to.
So, CCC, when it all comes down to it, Aeris wanted to know the real Cloud because all she saw was the Zack in him. How is this proved? We all know the quote. Let's say it together!
"Aeriths feelings for Zack, explain why she acts the way she does around Cloud in FFVII"
Or how about this one?
"In FFVII, Aeris speaks fondly of a man named Zack"

One thing to point out in the Ultimania concerning Cloud's condition. It said that, since she couldn't find the real Cloud, lost hope that he'd find his real self. More brownie points to Tifa!

So let me get this straight. Aeris lost faith in Cloud, while Tifa stayed devoted? That's why I love Tifa. She would never give up on some one she loves. ^_^

"Those who like Cloti are spawns of the devil." rofl I'll have to look again...it's in the Aeris' section somewhere. But I don't think it's as blunt as Aeris giving up on Cloud; she's obviously dedicated to Cloud though she probably realizes that she can't do a thing about it.
