Hello. For an art project, I have to make a model of my own hand with aluminum foil. I've gotten the basic shape of it, but it keeps collapsing and tearing a bit. I plan to hot glue it in to place later, but I wanted to know is there any way I could make it sturdier or stuff it with something perhaps? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

How about two, three layers of aluminium?

Orikami has a good idea there, if you're allowed to try gluing a few sheets of aluminum foil together to make a thicker more manageable piece. Just using regular rubber cement or white glue should work to hold them. As for stuffing it with something to keep shape newspaper balls would probably work just crumples them loosely but throughly.

Aluminium foil can be a bit tricky to work with until you get used to it. I actually found the easiest way was to make balls and compress the air out of them 'til they were firm. [Hands, rolling pin, hammer, a piece of wood, a rock, etc.] It took a while, and a helluva lot to get all the balls to hold together- I basically had to mold a ball inside half a ball and work from there. Plus lots of hot glue. Once you've got the basis of the shape, you fill in all the gaps with mini balls of foil, and some glue, and then start layering on the sheets, and work it into place [with the back of a spoon or a melon-baller]. Hot glue is great for filling all those annoying little dips and bumps. But don't use too much or it'll be obvious when you reach the final layer.
.. That probably didn't really help.
