Waking up to the morning light streaming through the doorway of their comfy cave, Nadine could scarce believe the night before. She felt warm bodies sleeping up against her, and the purring began immediately, though softly as to not wake anyone. She sorely wanted a drink of water, but it would have to wait for everyone to be ready.
the realization that she wouldn't have the freedom that she once had for a while yet hadn't occured to her while she was pregnant. Thinking about it now however, trips to the stream would have to be a family event, since much of the pride had now left. It wasn't that she regreted the decision, but the full impact of what she was now responsible for was beginning to hit her.
It wasn't all that bad however. Raising her head, she nuzzled Ashoka lovingly. She knew he would always be there. She knew now what it was to be part of a family again. It was an incredible feeling to feel part of something larger. The decision to not go to the temple for the birth had been the right one she felt, and she didn't regret that one bit.
Staring down at her cubs, all together in a jumble of bodies, she finally named the last and final cub. Abel. She didn't know where it came from, but she'd swore she'd heard it around somewhere before. Serenely, she nipped playfully at Ashoka's ear, knowing it might and might not wake him up.

 Ashoka's ears twitched slightly. At least one of them did. For some strange reason one of them wouldn't move. He groaned as his eyes fluttered open and Nadine's teeth came into view. He laughed softly and tried to n** back at her playfully. When she let go of his ear he licked her face then pulled back, sticking his tongue out at her as he did so. He was one of the happiest lions around at the moment. Not a thing in this world would change it.
Growling deep in his throat he snuggled close to Nadine as he kept an eye on the young ones.

 Honovi awoke with a yawn. Shaking the sleep from his head, he felt the warmth of his siblings all around him, and purred in ecstasy. Nosing around, still unable to see very well, he soon found what he was looking for, and after a slight shift of surprise from his mother, began nursing his morning meal. The warm, life giving milk soon filled his stomach, leaving him lethargic and content. His mother leaned over to lick him clean, being the only cub awake yet.
There were so many sounds and smells! He'd wished he hadn't drunk his fill, or he'd be able to explore this very moment, but knew that to be impossible. So he sat there, at the mercy of his mothers cleansing tongue, bathing in the attention, purring away as she went through the rounds.

 Theia's eyes moved quickly behind her closed lids. At the same time her ears twitched along with her tail. Mewing, she rolled over onto her back and kicked her feet. A strange dream. Running after something yet not being able to catch the something she was after. A brush from her mother's nose made the young one stir and roll back over onto her stomach.
Yawning a bit, she slowly opened her lids. Her eyes squinted, and not able to see very well yet, she could see a blob of something sitting in directly in front of her face. Wrinkling her nose she realized that one of her brother's butt was close to her face. She pushed at him, making a small roar like sound that came out as more of a squeak than a roar.(( I PMed my friend and reminded her about the RP requirements...so hopefully she'll be in here soon. If she doesn't show up before tomorrow, I'll drop her another line. She's probably busy with school, since it's getting close to the end of the school year...but I know once she has time she'll be around. -nodnod- ))

Resenting being pushed aside, Honovi turned and growl squeeked back. " You weren't complaining when it was cold, why complain now." He yawned, moving his bottom a little farther away, pushing up against his mother for warmth. "Besides, how do you think our brother will feel when he awakes to find your bum in his face." Hon laughed back, quietly as to not wake their still sleeping brother.
Smiling down at them, Nadine turned to Ashoka and grinned. "What do you think love, still happy to be a father?" She snickered a little and nuzzled into his mane. As long as the cubs, or some of them were still asleep, she couldn't move much. The energy used the day before as well had taken quite a lot out of her. Groaning, she plopped her head down on her massive paws. "I'm so hungry. And tired." Was all that she said. " Yesterday took so much out of me. I couldn't have imagined it."
A thought came to her however, and it made her lift her head again. "We should at least be expecting some visitors today. Or i'd hope. I'd think the rest of the pride would want to see them, first litter and all. Perhaps con some of the others into developing relationships." She laughed.
(( Yeah, everyone's finals bound lately. This summer should pick up. i'm going to try colouring like mad to get some lions out there))

 Abel crinkled his nose, feeling the warmth seep into his sides like gusts of tropical wind. There was something warm, soft... something that ticked at his fur in the most pleasant way possible. Trying not to break the lethargic spell, he dozed off again, hearing the murmurs of his stirrining family around him aloof, somewhere, in the distance.
He was content.
For however longer, he did not know. But it wasn't something he wanted to lose sight of, not something he wanted to let go of. Words drifted over him like rain from another day, titallating, inviting. A sigh escaped his muzzle as he shuffled his body closer to the warmth.
He was content, and though it may have boded to be ever fleeting, ever short of a loop in time, he was fine with that.
Because for now, everything was perfect.
((Excuse my lateness. Thanks for the PM, Tang. I did indeed receive the cert, however I have been putting off replying for a while. I think I'll go get that journal set up when I have the time to make banners, and then everything will roll from there!))

Feeling the last cub, the one almost identical to her stir, she looked down again at the three fuzzy warm bodies taking up occupancy near her stomach. Two were awake, Theia and Honovi already at it, fussing over small things. Nadine grinned at them and began cleaning Abel, to slowly pry him from his dreaming. It wasn't that she wanted to be cruel, but his dreaming was preventing her from getting up and getting water, a task in which she felt an extreme desire. Then there was the cleaning of the den to do. Birth was not a pretty thing, and they would need to bring in new grasses to make their bed.
Turning to Ash once the small red cub began to finally awaken, she cocked her head and smiled. "I think we'll go down to the creek first. We'll see what you can fish up,"she said grinning" and then we'll clean out this den. If i'm feeling up to it that is.

Ash chuckled softly at the two cubs that were fully awake. He was slowly starting to realize that all three cubs were going to be a hand full. Ash's attention was instantly snapped out of his daydreaming as Nadine started to speak. Smiling he nodded. "Anything for you." He said as he nuzzled her cheek. His nose twitched as the smell of the den wafted through the air. "You're right about this place. It needs cleaned. Although, I think it's mostly me." He said as he sniffed himself and laughed. Rising up he stretched out his front paws and started to help waking up the other cub and urging them all to head out of the den.

Finally awake and moving around a bit, Honovi still did not enjoy the idea of moving away from the warmth. "Awwww!" He groaned up at his father. However, after a second of thought, he jumped at the idea, and began pulling his sister and brother up and away from their warm area. It's not that he wanted to take charge, but he got a certain sense of satisfaction from being the one that ruined their warmth.
Still wobbly on his feet, Hono began to scamper around the den. Smelling here and there, he steered clear of the area that had the afterbirth in it. Not that he knew what it was, but it was beginning to have an odor. It wasn't long before his wanderings took him near the rays of sunlight coming in from the outside. Standing with ginger little paws on the edge of the sun, he didn't take that last step till he was told he was allowed.

Theia swiped at her brother. She did not want to get up, no matter how much the urge to explore was in her. She yawned and finally began to rise. Stretching her front paws out, then her back paws, she began to take slow and steady steps. She wasn't use to walking yet and wobbled a bit with every few steps. Soon though, she was scampering around the room and pawing playfully at her siblings and parents. "Lets go, lets go!" She exclaimed as she stopped beside Hono at the edge of their den entrance.

A sweet voice had begun to startle Abel from his fleeting reverie, a protective voice, calm, soothing. Opening his eyes into the half-shade of the den, he yawned widely, forcing himself onto wobbly feet. Watching in amusement as his father and brother urged him out, he broke into a small trot, wincing as the light clawed at his sensitive eyes.
Outside, the grasses waved rather poetically under the pounding sun that he was sure his parents were used to. He, on the other hand, was a little miffed at the temperature, finding it just a bit too hot, just a bit too bright.
Or was it just him? After all, his siblings seemed just fine.
Shaking his head, frowning, he proceeded to the dappled shade, laying his head down in his paws to watch his den mates in their little playful spat.
Trying to catch the eye of anyone in there, he cocked his head to the side, beckoning them out with him.

Finally it was time to cross the line of light at his tiny paws. Pushing forward, he was blinded momentarily by the light. He hadn't expected it to be so much! After his eyes adjusted, there was suddenly a huge world in front of him that he could never have even imagined. Trying to keep up, he stayed at his mother's side. Not necessarily nervous, but certainly weary of unknown things. He had a feeling he was supposed to be as well.
Smiling, Nadine led on the path down to the watering creek. It was a short trip, though the cubs that came with her delayed it significantly more than she was used to. The rewards however, were in finally getting there. Lapping up the cool water was more pleasurable than she could imagine. It tingled and cooled her body as it went down to her stomach, leaving prickles of fur in it's wake. Oh how good it was! Stomach grumbling, she ignored it, and turned toward the cub closest to her. Her little Honovi. "Be careful not to get in too far. You may float away, and we wouldn't want that." He had been padding in the shallows a bit, playing with the little fish that fed bigger fish. He looked up and nodded at her.
Turning toward Ash, she grinned. " We're parents! " She was still in disbelief herself, even with the little ones at her feet or playing a few away.

Theia's eyes closed instantly as she ran out into the heat. This caused her to trip and roll a few feet away. Groaning slightly she slowly opened her eyes, letting them adjust to the bright light that now shone down onto her and her siblings. "It's so bright...and hot!" She exclaimed as she looked up at her father. He just smiled down at her and urged them on to follow their mother. She padded a bit ahead of them, wondering where they were going.
"That we are." He said proudly as Nadine said it like she'd just realized it. He smiled down at her with a warmth that would touch any cold heart. He had nothing but love for his new family and always would. He knew eventually the cubs would be a handful and it looked like his little angel, the only girl out of the bunch, had inherited his clumsiness.

Abel listened intently to the conversations going on around him, his eyes half-closed in earnest. From his small field of vision, he could make out the playful shape of Honovi by the stream, and the larger, more graceful figure of his own mother basking in the warmth of the sun, her cardinal pelt glistening under the drops.
From the corner of his vision, his sister, too, stepped out, her fur the most like her father's, from the beautiful tanned color that ran all over her body to the small bands that graced her wrists. Smirking sleepily, he yawned again, turning his gaze to the mountains that settled like giants in the distance, their shadowy forms like gods to the small cub that lay half-trembling, half-asleep still in the shade of a quivering, wayward tree.
At the amazement he caught in his mother's eye, he smiled, wanting as much as he could to warm the heart of the beautiful female that had given birth to him and vowed to take care of all three of them- it would be something that he'd have to do eventually, too...
For the gratitude he felt to be there.
