From the looks of it... it seems as if they aren't gonna change any of the stuff for races and classes in the Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Dragonlance campaigns, unless they are included in the Player's Handbook and DMG. As a personal note... I don't like how the new covers look... the 3.5 ones fit the theme a lot better...

Where have you found information on this? From what I've learned of fourth edition everything seems rather drastically different, meaning that most 3/3.5 stuff will need to be converted to 4.0.

Also, when are they planning on releasing 4.0?

The PHB and the DMG for 4th edition are being released June 4th. They had a whole list on what 4th edition stuff they are releasing and nothing about Eberron and Dragonlance are on there... there was ONE Forgotten Realms book.

Wow, 4th edition is that close to release?

I'll most likely be getting the 4th edition books, but I don't know yet if I want to convert my campaign to 4th edition. It all depends on how thew new system is (it does seem better) and most importantly how easy it is to actually convert everything, not only for me but for you guys.

From what I've seen, It will be nearly impossible to convert en Eberron Adventure to 4.0 right off the bat, simply because the wizards hasnt updated the campaign setting yet. I also am planning on picking up the books, but from what i've seen, they are coming out with the Eberron Campaign setting sometime early-mid 2009, with some of the information on Warforged/gnomes.other stuff possibly coming out in the Wizards pay-to-use database earlier.

Unfortunately, take all this with a grain of salt.

I think that we should continue the story that we have using the 3.5 settings, but then we can decide when we get back from the summer whether or not we should create newer characters using version 4.0. I think there are some of us who want to try out another class using the new system rather than try it out with familiar characters.

Are there any new classes available with 4.0?

There whole "class" system in 4.0 is revamped. It basically is taking a role (leader, damage dealer, tank, etc.) and taking a power source (nature, divine, arcane, natural). There is no paladin, bard, barbarian, etc. class in 4.0, though you could potentially make a character like it and then roleplay like paladin.

So 4.0 is like another whole setting rather than a 'patch' for D&D. Perhaps we should all try creating a new character for 4.0 and try something other than the playing style we've done for 3.5.

Since the system is fairly new to all of this, this is also would be a great way for someone else interested in DMing to take the reins, if anyone is so inclined.

So, who saw that stuff about Epic Destinies in 4.0?

http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080428

If you can't get to it because it says you arent logged into the D&D inside, there's a button on the upper right of the screen that will allow you to check in under a guest name until 4.0 is released

I think most games are going to end up going from 1-20, because as soon as epic destinies come into play...

Wizards
Immortality

Every epic destiny gives you immortality -- either true everlasting life or a legacy that will live forever. One way or another, you will move beyond mortal affairs. You might leave the world, be reincarnated as a new hero, die a glorious death, or enter the realm of the deities and assume divine power.

Also, the first power one of the Epic Destinies gets is

Phantom Visage (Su): At 21st level, you are under a constant greater invisibility effect. You can suppress or resume this effect as a swift action.

Yeah.

Stop drooling, Stan

I'll admit that I'm kinda unsure how this Epic Destinies shtick is going to work, but it sounds like they are adding an element that worms its way into every RP I've seen played for an extended amount of time. The Player characters end up being the ones to save the . Its a concept that we see every day in video games and movies so it is only natural that it would be seen in a pen and paper RP setting. The interesting part is that they are imposing rules to it. While you are extremely badass I don't believe eclipsing a plain of existence is going to be on the list of abilities like in many other RPs (werewolf from personal experience ends either with all the characters 6 feet under or they are all tribe elders at the age of 30 something). Maybe an indication of actual end game balance? I have no idea its 1am and i'm tired >.< Can't wait for the RP to start. See (kinda) you all then. [/rant]

I'm going to practice DM'ing for my brother since it turns out he and his friends at his school play a little bit (he has a lvl 2 fighter).

On another note, this does seem like it would be easier to run then 3.5E over the web, anyone want to just to the little sample adventure at the end of the 4E DMG? It's basically just combat which, as long as i can post images in Gaia posts, will be really easy.

Also, they have basic info an almost every playable race if someone wants to play non-normal things. (warforged)
