welcome to the city of Guildenstern. a somewhat quiet town, very little going on within its walls. the people live peacefully and without fear... well, not much of it anyway. there is the occasional thief, as well as the possibility that their rival city, Rosencrantz, could win the war. but that is the concern of the soldiers, not average townspeople.
in the town there are many races, mostly humans, elves, and dwarves. sometimes the odd shapechanger wanders in, or peaceful deamon, but most deamons are in the army.
inside the city walls, life is peaceful. Outside them is a differnt matter. monsters, dark angels, and Rosencrantian regiments await the unwary traveler. one must be well armed and a good fighter to deal with these threats. to acheive this, you can either join the Guilderian army, or earn money through solitary trade/theivery, buy or steal weapons/armor, and work as an assassin or monster slayer. the craftsmen are always looking for more monsterhide and every general needs a good assassin.
if one wants adventure without the danger, you could always visit the ruins. mysterious, and dark, these ruins, though protected by wards from the monsters, have their own assortment of strangeness. the king has offerd a handsome reward to any that can uncover the secrets of the ruins. this is a handy training ground for mages due to the magic feilds surrounding it. to get there follow the protected pathway. monsters cannot cross it but some dire insects manage to get through, though they are little challenge, even for a small child.
to find your way around, you might want a map. Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are located on a small continant, shaped like an oval, or egg. Guildenstern is on the western coast, and its rival on the eastern. down the middle is a range of mountains, the Guilderians call them the Guilder Mountains, while the Rosencrantians call them the range of Rosen. there is a lake to the northeast of Guldenstern, and the ruins are southeast. the rest of that half is deep forest and trade roads that have gone unused since the war started. not many people know what is on the other side of the mountains. you might ask the elders, or war vetrans. it takes about three days travel on foot to reach the mountains from the city, and a full days travel to walk the protected path to the ruins.

character creation:
you can be any of the five races listed in the setting. humans are human. they can use any magic but dark, and wear any armor that is not specificly for elf or dwarf. they can use any weapon. their speciality is memory. average height; 5 feet, average age limit; 100 years. most of them have brown hair and eyes. elves have pointy ears and slender features. they can use any high magic, but dark. wear any armor for elves, and most others not for dwarves, except heavy armor. they can use any weapon but heavy weapons. their speciality is speed/dexterity. avg height; 6 feet, avg age limit 200 years. most of them have light colord hair (blond, white) and blue or green eyes. dwarves have stocky features and short tempers. they can use any heavy magic but dark. wear any armor not specificly for elves and magic armor. use any weapon but long range. their speciality is strength. avg height; 4 feet, avg age limit; 150 years. most have black or red hair, and red eyes. the races do not interbreed. no half-elves and such deamons are like one of the three main races only they have darker skin. limitations and specialities apply to the base race chosen but add these things: can use dark magic. speciality; magic. age limit; 20 years more than base. shapechangers are like one of the three main races, but they can shift to an animal form, only one, and carry a sign of that animal even in person shape, i.e. a fox tail, deer antlers, cat ears, etc. they have all the limitations and specialities of the base race chosen but add these things: cannot use strong magic (not the same as heavy magic). speciality; stealth. age limit; 10 years more than base. deamons cannot be shapechangers and vice versa. if you want to be something other than these races, PM me and we'll figure something out.

about monsters:
you cannot roleplay a monster without permission, but if you are in a fight with one, you might play it. just play it convincingly and don't have your char win ALL the time. or another player might throw a monster at you and the two of you can have turns playing the monster, or the one controls it and the other fights it.
possible monsters dragyns. dragyn hide can be used to make heavy armor, and their teeth and claws to make weapons. mountain (white, ice breath weapon) sky (blue, largest wings, fights like a bird with claws and teeth) earth (green, has no wings) rune (lives near the ruins, uses magic, brown/grey) fire (red, fire breath weapon) dark angels are like people with wings, either featherd or membrane. they can use any magic including dark. they live in any terrain but like dark caves, and attack any intruder with their sharp claws or magic. dark angel feathers/bodyparts are used in magical armor or weapons. dire animals. like ordinary animals only 50% larger and stronger. their hides/bones can be used to make armor and weapons. examples; dire tiger, dire badger, dire deer, dire cockroach, basicly any animal. if you have any ideas for more monsters, PM me.

Like why the Rosencrantians started this war, and what do the ruins mean? A year ago she had a vision that told her to visit the ruins, so she took the protected trail there, blasting the occasional dire butterfly, collecting their colorful wings, and arrived at her destination. Once at the ruins there was no doubt, she MUST discover their meaning.
