Song of Ceres ~*A Literate RPG*~
Table of Contents: 1: Story 2: Rules 3: The World 4: Races/Occupations 5: Character Sheet 6: White List/Black List
~*~*~*~*~
Story
In the world of Ceres, things are less then peaceful. A great evil, revived by an over-enthusiastic sorcerer who was killed for his foolishness, has swept over the world, bathing the land in a sea of blood and sorrow.
Shades, the worst of all demons that had been sealed by a great sage who sacrificed his most precious possession, have been revived as well, eager to serve their long-lost sovereign. These monsters of the night are seen often and everywhere, but only by a scarce few who call themselves Dreamers. These people, born under a certain star, have the ability to destroy the Shades with a variety of means, be it physical weapons or magic. Despite the fact that these Dreamers help and protect humanity and the other races, they are shunned, as few want to work with these people that chaos seems to follow like a plague.
In the midst of the chaos, a war for power has started between three nations for supreme power, each using their own sources to give them an edge over the other, hiring the most powerful of mercenaries. These also include the Dreamers, used to protect the soldiers that are unable to see the Shades.
In the middle of it all rests the legend of a dead goddess, Celestiana, whose remains are hunted for by the Shades and their master. Celestiana’s soul is said to dwell in the empty, monster-ridden land far to the east known as Teiala, buried deep within an abandoned temple that has long since been buried in sand. Rumors of the Goddess’s power have encouraged Dreamers to seek her out in hopes of defeating the Shades...

Rules
1: Be nice to your fellow gamers! In short, don’t yell at them or call them names, and they won’t yell at you and call you names. If you break this rule, then they have every right to yell back.
2: No bumping. For the love of god, PLEASE. Don’t bump.
3: No rapid-fire posting. Some of us have lives and can’t keep up with them if the posts go too quickly.
4: If you get angry at someone, then take it to either RL or PM. If you use this board or the OOC board for childish whining, then I’ll be forced to give each participating party a penalty.
5: Keep swearing down to a minimum. We don’t need to see a swear word every few words or sentences.
6: Post more then one sentence, as I REALLY hate that and will probably give the breaker of this rule two penalties just because this irritates the heck out of me. Minimum number of sentences required are three. THREE lines minimum. More is better, but less is bad. Remember that. XD
7: Use proper English. No chat-speak, l33t or any other kind of computer talk.
8: Don’t God-mode. Your characters can be hurt just as much as the other guys, and they can fail at things too. In fact, they probably will fail sometimes. And don’t kill/maim any of the other characters, as everyone has a chance to react and dodge any attacks delivered to them.
9: Don’t time travel. It’s annoying. And plus…I’m the only one who can do that. XD
10: Keep the board PG-13, R at most! Nothing above that. If you feel that something higher then that needs to happen, then PLEASE take it outside of game. And the reason I say “R” is because of violence! No sex in-game! No rape in-game! None of that, because that isn’t cool. And if you feel that any of the above needs to happen, then ask the player first.
11: Don't take control of someone else's character. And if you do, then ask first. If they say no, then don't use their character.
12: No more then 3 characters each. I can have more because I'm running the game, but I can bet you the majority of them will die.
13: Have fun! Or else. Mwaha.
Yes, I know. These rules may sound strict, but I’m a nice girl and will often give you guys breaks if you keep on the straight and narrow and don’t irritate me. Three strikes and you’re on the black list, which means that you’ve got one more chance to follow the rules before you’re kicked out of the game. Not the guild, the game. Those unlucky souls who find themselves on the black list will have to tread carefully, as I’ll not stand for rule-breakers disrupting the game.

The World
Continents: Kolet – The largest continent in Ceres, and the one that the main story takes place on. Contains the Tyseria, Seren and Insinika nations, all of which are currently at war.
Sorin – Smaller continent to the east of Kolet. A rarely seen land where angels, demons and the Fairy Folk are said to come from.
Countries: Mirian Islands – A series of five islands in the middle of the Blood Sea, all inhabited by sea dragons, fire sprites and humans alike. Its towns are set up along the coast, and, reasonably enough, their main source of food is fish and fruits, and a mild climate. Most of the people here worship the God of War, Bokkai, though the other main gods include the Goddess of Weather, Fuko, and the God of Heaven, Ryuu, though most temples are to the Goddess of Life, Celestiana.
Hidden on the islands, is a tribe called the Anoue, a rarely seen sub-species of Nekomatta Most of the Mirian dwellers fear these people, and view them as the spawn of Eldian, the Goddess of Death. Tyseria – This country is a sandy and hot hellhole of a place where practically nothing lives. The only inhabitants live underground in the dank, cool tunnels, which lead to the underground city of Me’sinne, where Reptilions dwell. The main mode of transportation is Sand Wyrms; wingless, blind worm-like earth dragons that tunnel quickly and effectively through the rocky underground.
While the desert itself is hard to get through without a guide, in the heart lays a section of desert cut off from the outside world by the Terra Mountains. Any who enter have never returned, and no one knows what lay past the dangerous mountain ridges.
The Reptilion of Tyseria will worship pretty much any God, though many seem to lean more towards Celestiana, the Goddess of Life.
Seren – Starting at the south-eastern boarder of Tyseria is the smaller of the three warring nations. It is covered in forests and is known for its beauty and mild weather, though its here that some of the more dangerous monsters come from. A variety of races dwell here, though this is where the trading industry started, and many of the Beastmen that live here are traveling merchants.
The gods that the people of Seren lean towards consist of the Goddess of Love, Aine; the Goddess of Plants, Hanako; and the God of Stories, Sawako. There are many people whose hearts are dark with greed and anger that worship Eldian above all others, though these people are often part of an underground group that is never seen, only heard.
Insinika – Insinika is the largest of the three mainland nations, and the most powerful. People all over Ceres, even those that live there, call this the Black Nation, as sunlight is sparse. Almost all of the people in this nation worship Eldian, and any who follow another god or goddess are usually either part of a rebel group or executed. Most people who come from here are swordsman, ruthless bounty hunters or part of the military. They are currently leading the war against Seren and Tyseria, though they have an unfair advantage, using what are called “Angels” to slaughter their enemies.
Their land is constantly dark, and everyone lives in eternal night, so few people are used to sunlight and often can’t see very well in it. Only the boarder dwellers see the sun and clear blue sky, but every victory for Insinika seems to make the darkness spread further.
Insinika hadn’t always been this way, but within the past ten years, things have changed and there are few places left within the Insinika nation where people can actually live, as the entire land is filled with monsters and demons, the worst being the unseen Shades.
According to rumors by Serenian spies, the king of Insinika, Cain, has the avatar of the goddess Eldian on his side. This has spurred many people to hunt for Celestiana’s soul, if it even exists. Although, even Insinika is searching for it, so there may be some truth to story…
Kuro-Kane – An island that is told to be nothing but a myth, as none have ever truly seen it, only the murderous monsters that are said to be bred from it. Rumors say that a great assassin’s guild rests at the heart of this place and only the strongest of assassins come from here.
Towns
Mirian Islands Sappheria, Mirian Island capital – A pleasant and lively city on the northern island of Mirian, Sappheria is known for it’s grand temple to Celestiana, and it’s seafood. Lian – A small, ruined coastal town. No one lives here anymore after it was wiped out by a tsunami. Only the foundations of the houses remain. Ariane – The main Anoue village hidden deep within the jungles of the smallest of the Mirian islands. Simple with wooden and straw houses, dirt packed floors and a village square for tribal meetings and ceremonies. Lilianra – One of the port towns near Lian. It, too, was devastated by the same tsunami that wiped out Lian, but it’s in the process of being rebuilt.
Tyseria Menla, Tyseria capital – A dank underground city surrounding a massive lake. The buildings are carved out of stone, and their “temples” are simple shrines in their houses. A few alters are just sitting around collecting dust, as some Reptilion’s don’t worship any god and just use the alter space as a shelf for whatever junk they collect. Terra Mountains – These mountains are steep and dangerous to climb, as fire wyrms live here and inside what had once been a profitable iron mine. The network of tunnels leading to Teiala are still in working order, though it’s far too dangerous for travelers to venture into the Fire Wyrms den. The mountain peaks are unseen, as they disappear into the clouds, and the stone seems to be made of a strange black rock that is always cold to the touch. Me’sinne – A small town at the edge of the Tyseria desert. It’s an open marketplace with sandy buildings and a bright and cheerful atmosphere, or it had been before the Insinian Empire killed the inhabitants and destroyed the town. Now only tattered colorful flags hang from broken, darkened buildings and an eternal night has fallen over the marketplace. Arkane – An underground tunnel that connects to the lowest level of the mines, and carved into the walls are booths where a few beastmen merchants have set up shop to lend wary travelers rations, a place to sleep and supplies. Blocking entry into the mines is a large stone door with two Reptilions standing guard. Teiala – A desert hidden in the center of the Terra Mountains. Rumors say that Celestiana’s avatar is somewhere here,
Insinika Sinyi, Insinika capital – A kingdom seemingly carved out of onyx by Picasso. The buildings jut out at odd angles, the streets are gray cobblestone and the sky is pitch black without even a single star in the sky. Lamps hang from crooked lampposts and rain constantly falls. At times, the shadows, as sharp and jagged as some of the buildings, seem to shift and child-like giggling drifts from the darkness. The castle towers over the entire city, sharp and unbalanced looking, though intimidating. Even the inhabitants of Sinyi don’t like going near the castle. Conta – This village is nothing but a ghost town, a mere shadow of its former glory. It rests on the western coast of Insinika, where even the water is as black as night. Shades flooded the area surrounding Conta, and monsters have overrun the village, slaughtering its inhabitants. Songstren – The entire town had once served the Goddess Celestiana, though the temple was recently destroyed, this is the only place where the Shades cannot tread. A small rebel group has formed within Insinika, and this is their base, as the temple grounds are a safe haven for any who need shelter. It lies near the Seren boarder, and has aided Seren’s attempts to keep Insinika from spreading its darkness. Karan Mountains – The mountains are the boarder between Tyseria, Seren and Insinika, and span several miles high, though nowhere near as tall or trecorus as the Terra Mountains in Tyseria. Earth drakes and unintelligent demons lurk the caverns through the mountain, making travel hard, though, again, the Terra Mountains are still far more dangerous.
Seren Yun-Hee, Seren capital – Yun-Hee is pretty much a giant flower garden. The roads are made of tightly-packed dirt and the buildings are small and comfortable with vines and flowers growing on them. The castle is small with rounded corners and a massive garden that spans the entire courtyard. The main street is an open marketplace and the temple, just as clean-cut and flower-covered as the castle, is near the castle gates. Hana-Valley – The valley leads to Drake Spring, and the roads are massive, twisting vines with flowers that bloom only at night and glow a pale blue. The spring itself is a strange sight, as the surrounding flora resemble coral and the light that passed through the branches during the morning seems to ripple like sunlight coming through the waves. In the center of the lake is a small stone statue of a small dragon sitting on a rock and looking down at the water with a look of wonder on its face. Hien-ti – The remaining town in the small nation of Seren that hasn’t been taken over by the Insinika Empire. It is a fortress that even the people of Seren have trouble getting into, and its because of its fortifications and the rebel group in Songstren that Seren hasn’t been completely wiped out by the Black Nation.
Currency Xi – Gold coins two-inches in diameter Zon – silver coins, an inch in diameter Ko – Copper coins the same size as a Zon
Gods/Goddess Goddess of Life, Celestiana - Killed by her sister, Eldian, and had her spirit sealed in the Teiala desert. Goddess of Death, Eldian - Murdered her sister and sealed her soul away. Sealed by the other gods. God of War, Bokkai - The swordmaker and younger brother to Eldian and Celestiana. Helped seal Eldian after Celestiana's death. Married to Okami. Goddess of Love, Aine - Daughter of Bokkai and Okami. Goddess of Plants, Hanako - Twin sister to Aine. God of Stories, Sawako - The messenger of the gods and the one who first told the stories of the gods to mankind. Goddess of Weather, Fuko - A rather angry Sylph who always seems to enjoy tormenting the inhabitants of Ceres. Not mean. Just playful. In a mean way. God of Heaven, Ryuu - A dragon god who rules the heavens in Celestiana's obsence. Goddess of Animals, Okami - A quiet, calm woman who always seems to go missing every few days. God of the Moon, Tsuki - The mediator between the other gods, and apparently more of the messenger then Sawako is. Goddess of Time, Kaliana - No one's ever actually seen her, and even the Gods are questioning her existance.

Occupations Knight Mercenary Sorcerer Witch/Warlock Inventor Royalty Merchant Bounty Hunter Priest/Priestess Thief (Bandit/pick-pocket) Alchemist Blacksmith Animal Handler Hunter Student Artist Soul Collector Bard Doctor Bartender Body Guard Berserker Gunner Brawler Beast Master Archer Swordsman Dreamer - Most of the player characters will have this as a sub-job. This just means that you have the ability to see and combat Shades. Whether everyone knows you're a Dreamer or not is up to you.
Races Dragon (Red, green, blue, silver, copper, bronze, gold) Demon Angel Homunculi Human Kitsune* Kyuubi** Shinigami (AKA: Death God) Anoue (NEW RACE) – The Anoue are from the Mirian Islands, though they are disliked and distrusted by the other islanders. They resemble humans in that they have the basic human form, though they all have animal appendages (such as ears, tails, claws, paws and fangs to list a few) and a dark complexion, as well as eyes that are different unnatural shades, such as purple, gold, red and orange. They live in a technology-free land where not even guns survive and are wary of anything mechanical in nature. They are a proud race, and live by old traditions of worship via ritual dances and chants, though when it comes to machines they’re rather clumsy and the machines don’t usually like them, and often break down after being touched by an Anoue. Sprites, Elemental (Fire, water, wind, earth, light, dark) Nekomatta* - A two-tailed cat demon that can control the dead Reptilion (NEW RACE) – A race of reptile-men that live in the Tyseria desert in an underground city. They are the one race that can live in the intense heat of the desert without feeling the affects of heatstroke and dehydration, and because they rarely see water except for the underground lake their city surrounds, they aren’t very good swimmers. They are simple-minded and often blunt and straightforward when it comes to words, and they can’t seem to understand the concept of just why humans and other creatures need to drink water so much. Beastmen (NEW RACE) – Beastmen originated from Seren, though many have taken root in Sorin and the different nations. They are, basically, humanoid animals, usually foxes, cats and rabbits. They can adapt to any situation and are masters at diplomacy and bartering. ???-breed - (any combo of the above)
* Permission required **Must play a Kitsune until a predetermined time

And here's where I give you the sheet you have to fill out in order to join. Make your character and PM it to me. ^_^ Some of it won't be explained, but that's because it's pretty obvious what they mean. Enjoy!
-=Character Sheet=-
Full Name: Here's where your character's full name goes. No, you don't need a middle name. Alias(es): What is it that people call your character? Whether its given to you, or you came up with it yourself, chances are that this is probably what people call you until you either tell them otherwise or fireball them. Gender: Male or female? No, I will not allow Shims (She/him). Race:Pick one from the list! C'mon, don't be shy. Age: Minimum age is 15, no max. Height: Weight: Occupation: Alignment: Is your character good? Evil? Neutral?
~General Information~ Home Nation: Pick one of the four: Mirian Islands, Insinika, Seren or Tyseria. Home Town: Take one from the list. Seems pretty small, hm? Don't worry. The reason its such a small list for each nation is because everything else got destroyed. ^_^ Or your town could just be nameless. Parents: Siblings: Likes: Dislikes: Hates: Hobbies: Strengths: What's your character good at? Weaknesses: What's your character bad at? Romantic Interest: You don't need to fill this out yet if you don't know. Whenever you figure it out, just PM it to me and I'll add it in. Worst Enemy: Someone might just hate you. If so, who is it? You can start with this, but it'll probably get filled out as the game progresses. Favorite Food: Least Favorite Food: Signature Phrase (favorite sayings): Dreams/Goals: What does your character want to be when they grow up? *cough* What do they want to do with their lives? Fears: What's your character afraid of? MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE PHOBIA!
~Powers/Attacks~ ~*Spells*~ Max number of spells is 8. Don't know what spells you can have or even what ones are avalible? Because it would take me a VERY long time to create a list of spells, just feel free to use whatever spells you can create/gank from an anime, game or even a D&D book.
~*Weapon Attacks*~ Everyone has at least 2 weapon attacks. Sometimes more if I like you and your character concept. Don't make them too godly, or I'll be forced to smite you.
~Weapon(s) of Choice~ What's your weapon of choice? A description would be nice, but it isn't required. It just shows me that you put a lot of thought into your character and his or her's weapon.
~Physical Appearance~ What does your character look like? Pictures are accepted, though written descriptions are better.
~Personality~ How does your character act? BE DETAILED!
~History~ Ah, yes. This, my friends, is the meat-and-potatos of the character. What happened in your character's life to make them the way they are today? The more detailed you are, the more bonus points with me you get.
~Misc. Information~ Theme songs: This isn't required, but it's always fun to figure out what song would fit your character's personality. Feel free to add a second or third theme song or even a battle theme. ^_^ Enjoy.

Episode 01 - Age of Darkness "Come back here!" A priest yelled, pointing after a cloaked figure that ran as quickly as they could through the church, clutching the offering box to their chest. The figure smirked, jumping onto a high rafter, laughing with child-like glee as they yelled, their voice betraying it as female, "Hahaha! Kiss it, Father!" She slapped her hip, laughing as she took off through a small opening in the roof top of the small church to the gods Tsuki and Celestiana. She could hear the priests shouting after her as she took off toward the edge of the city of Yun-Hee, using the rooftops to keep away from the priests that followed from the ground. The city was beautiful, a functional garden of sorts with gardens around every corner and on the roofs of several of the houses, though the people swatering their rooftop gardens were quiet surprised to see a young girl run through them. The girl disappeared into the boarding forest, pulling back the hood and letting the wind whip her purple hair about her childish face as she discarded the cloak and finally jumped down onto the ground, walking at a leasurely pace as she could no longer hear the priests behind her. The girl trotted deeper into the forest, to where a well-tended to temple rested. She didn't know much about it, except that it was owned by a lone shinto priest named Akihiko Yakamoto. She quickly dropped some of the money from the Yun-Hee church's offering box into the temple's, then took off back into the forest to return to the city, making sure to discard the box under a tree after pocketing the rest of the coins. It didn't take her very long to return to the city, hiding out behind a building and listening to the sounds of the bustling garden city. She sat down on the ground, sighing and rushing a lock of purple hair from her golden eyes, staring at a flower as it bloomed in the shadow of the building. After a while, she stood and dusted herself off, smiling as she headed back to the church with every intention of acting innocent and clueless about what had happened to the collection box. =====later===== Ichigo flopped onto the roof of the church, staring at the sky as the sun set in the horizen, her golden eyes betraying her thoughts as she listened to the dimming hubbub of the people in Yun-Hee. There they all go. To bed, to their homes, to people who care about them. They don't have to worry about being used like a tool or being treated like some stupid machine... She closed her eyes, sighing. This city is so beautiful on the surface, but below that are the ugly roots. Humans are such selfish creatures, but I can't stop caring about them... She shifted a bit to get comfortable, sighing once more. She wasn't a sigher, or a dweller of depressing thoughts, but she couldn't help it. She had been choewed out by the head priest for disrupting the nightly service again with her antics, and he had the nerve to call her a monster, a wretched thing created by illegal and immoral methods. She cringed at the memory, swallowing hard to keep her tears at bay. I'm not a monster...I'm a living, breathing person! Just like them! She sat up, looking down at the city as the noise faded to silence. I'm alive...not a heartless monster like those shadowy things that Insinika set on 'um! They're humans too, damn it. Why can't everyone just think that everyone's equal and leave it alone already? She snorted, crossing her arms and dropping her gaze. Then a thought hit her. She stood, a smile replacing her scowl. "That's it!" She said aloud, grinning at the setting sun as if hoping it would give her praise for her idea. "I'll stop the war! Then everyone will HAVE to believe I'm alive and not a monster at all!" She cheered, thinking her idea was the best thing in the world. "Oh! Wait until neechan hears my idea! She'll agree with me! I KNOW she will!" She turned and jumped through the small trap door on the roof as she yelled, landing a rafter, "Neechan! Neechan!" She jumped down and ran through the temple, calling, "Neechan! You gotta hear this great idea I had! You'll totally love it!!"

Calhoon wandered through the forest, bounding over tree roots and rocks that stood in his path, his boots barely making a sound as he moved with grace reserved for martial artists and those who used mystical energies to travel from place to place without soiling their feet.
'So where in the name of all that's holy did I end up this time?' he thought as he stopped under a tree to rest. He pushed his fedora up to scratch at his blond mane, sighing as he slid down the tree to sit with his back against it. He'd been traveling for most of the afternoon, and hadn't come across a single friendly forest dweller.
He took the silver gun from his gunbelt and looked at it as beams of sunlight that sifted through the thick forest canopy above reflected off of the highly polished chamber. "I really need to find someplace to stay tonight," he muttered as he spun the gun around and slipped it back into the holster. He pushed himself to his feet and looked around, his muscles growing tense as he sensed another presence.
He watched a cloaked girl bound over his head, heading deep into the forest ahead of him. He was just slightly awed by her appearance, since she'd been moving far too fast for someone who was unfamiliar with the terrain. "Perhaps this is my lucky day after all," he said as he adjusted his fedora before bounding after the girl.
He hid in the shadows as she entered the temple, watching her from behind a tree. He hid as she headed back in the direction from which she'd come, and he decided he should follow her, just in case she could lead him back to civilization. He'd been wandering in the forest for an unknown period of time, and he chose only to remember a few pertinent details in case someone felt nosey and decided to question him when he did stumble across civilization.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some time later her entered the city, staring in awe at the buildings that surrounded him without feeling oppressive. He found a park and took a seat, leaning back on a bench while pulling his fedora low over his eyes in order to rest some before needing to find lodgings for the night.
Ichigo, failing to find her sister in name only, sighed and rubbed the back of her head. Maybe finding praise was harder than it sounded in her head. She grinned weakly a glowering priest and was ushered out of the temple with a stern, "Services are in order. Get out." and the doors were promptly slammed in her face.
Sighing sadly, she kicked a rock down the street, shoving her hands into her pockets and following the lonely rock before kicking it again, trying to make a game out of it but there was little enjoyment in being alone kicking a rock. She did this for a long while before stopping in the park, glaring hard at the rock in front of her with tears in her eyes. Tiny fists shaking, she yelled, rearing back her foot and sending the rock sailing through the night air, "I hate this place! I hate it I hate it I hate it!"
The rock, a piece of stone an inch in diameter crashed through a tree behind the bench that the newcomer was seated on and left a clean, perfectly circular hole through the truck of the tree that only creaked in protest to the assault. The girl stared at the newcomer for a long while before walking over to him and standing in front of him. She rubbed her arm and studied him for a moment before asking, "Are you..." She blinked innocently. "A hobo? Or is the right term 'homeless guy'?" She didn't seem to really understand that words were probably insulting.
Calhoon had been asleep up to about five seconds following Ichigo's outburst of how much she hated the place. His eyes went wide as the rock sailed over his head and through the tree, leaving a perfectly tiny hole. His jacket slid off of one shoulder, his hat slightly askew as he blinked in surprise at the girl, then at the tree, then at the girl as she bounced over to him and asked him if he was a hobo / homeless person.
"You... might say that," he said, pulling his jacket back up with one hand while adjusting his hat with his other hand. "I'm a traveler, and I'm looking for a place to stay the night. You wouldn't happen to know of some inexpensive lodgings, would you, young lady?"
