I love the story, it's really cool =] and the way you made it.
You don't really do backgrounds, but still it doesn't look empty. That's cool^^ I'm not good at backgrounds xP.
You're still making a draft? Well, as a real manga it would be a lil more clean right? not marker stripes all over and straighter panels
PostPosted: Sat May 10, 2008 1:59 am

Oooh that's bloody razz

Yeah, using a ruler for the panels would help improve the reading experience a bit.
The story looks interesting so far. I liked how you drew the lady with the wings, especially in page 9 smile

I don't know if you want some more in-depth critique, but if you do, just ask and I'll try my best ^^

I've already had a bunch of people let me know about the backgrounds and the panels and I've tried my best to make them better and just given up. ;-: That's kind of sad. When I take the time to rule out the panels, I have no eye for straightness, so they just end up a diagonal straight line. DX

As for backgrounds, I've never really drawn them before, except for urban areas, so I'm very bad. And, I don't know how to use my photoshop, so everything is done in marker. ;-: There's not getting around that, unless I decide to use pencil, which I'm actually considering. That's kind of scary. :'D

Thanks for your pointers, though. If you have any suggestions of how to get around those big holes in my skill level, I'd be more than happy to hear. DX

OK, these are mostly technical questions I see. I'll try and give some advice:

That's because you should never judge the lines by eyesight alone - use the ruler to measure the paper, and set dots wherever lines will start and end. After that you will know where to draw the line, since you just have to connect the dots (again, with the help of the ruler).

If you want some pointers on measurements of your drawing area, try looking in the "paneling" topic in Tips and Tricks - I put a link to a guide there smile

I suck at backgrounds too... most comic artists dislike the necessity of backgrounds, but you can't easily get around it. You just have to practice. Try getting some photo references from real life or the internet. Also, remember to try using perspective (vanishing lines and all that).

Remember, many of the manga artists you see aren't good at backgrounds either - they have assistants that draw backgrounds for them. There are even a few webcomics that work this way. (Like this one)

No don't apologize about that! No one says you have to shade/tone/whatever your comic on the computer smile I also used to use markers for that (until I ran out of colour and switched to computer O_O)
Like so: http://www.vatinasportal.dk/pages/ao1_page3.html
I think traditional media has it's own charm, so if you want to use that, then please do! smile

I'm willing to help whenever I can think of anything slightly useful to say smile So feel free to ask.

Eyah! Fatina! You're so nice! DX

(( ... >.> *bookmarks both comics* <3))

I feel so loved! I'll definitely try thingy with the dots. I hope it will help. :3 And, I don't really know anyone that knows how to do backgrounds or that love me enough to do them for me, but I have been practicing on them since I began my comic and I've slowly been getting better (though I'm still much better at urban and indoor areas).

Ahem, and power to the inkers! Inking is a cool skill to have, so I'm proud that I can make a half decent page without using photoshop. But, that's still a pointer a lot of people give me. They'll have to get over it eventually, I suppose...

X3 I hope to write the next page tomorrow! And, if you want to get blood to look like that, I just put the ink of my marker on my finger and then press it to the page while it's still wet. Then, it kind of looks like smeared/dried blood. X3

Oh, thanks you guys!

You know, I really hate my paneling... Is that bad? I suppose it's gotten much better, but I still think there's room to improve! *flails*
