((Ho-Hum...Doyle and Ricky's interaction to begin here when I think of something...))
PostPosted: Tue May 13, 2008 6:42 pm

Lisel walked away from the library a little unwillingly, but she knew she had to meet Katya for lunch. Katya was no company compared to Doyle. She thought of her first professional meeting with a Doyle. He had been absolutely sloshed and she had pulled her gun on him to keep him at a reasonable distance.

"So what's your name pal?" Doyle asked, looking again at the clock to realize he still had a good hour before he could go to lunch.
"Ricky....Ricky Rockafeller...." the man replied simply as he pulled a sherlock holmes book off the shelf. Doyle paused, awaiting more conversation, but none came.
"What do you do around Chicago Ricky?" he asked casually, this guy was a total stick in the mud.
"I play Sax in a Jazz club in the evenings...But I have nothing to do during the day..."

Unable to leave the library without one last look in at Doyle, Lisel convinced herself she needed one of the books she had left on the table. Turning back to the library far faster than she had left it, Lisel strode back through the main doors.

Doyle watched Lisel enter again and smiled.
"Hello Sunshine. Back already?" he teased. He looked at the clock then jumped over the main desk. He looked back to the back to see Ricky still reading. He shrugged then called out, "I'm gonna leave for a spell. I'll be back if you want to check out that book though." There was a small 'uh-huh' from Ricky's direction. Doyle turned to Lisel and the doors, "What happened to your urgent meeting?"

"I, uh, forgot a book that I need" Lisel stumbled through her words, semi carefully thought out before she had entered the library. She swallowed loudly. "I am sure my associate will wait for me if I am late. Which I doubt I will be. Where are you heading?" Lisel tried desperately to turn the conversation from what she was doing. Impulsiveness was not her thing.

Doyle nodded at her excuses, unconvinced that that was all she'd come back for. But that was Doyle...
"I'm off to take my lunch break at the Rosebud. Rouge and the girls will be expecting me! And I have never disappointed them by not showing up!" he put on a show of bravado and sophistication. As if if he didn't show up, they would all perish and fall to pieces. In truth, the only one who cared if he showed up was Ivy, as she enjoyed talking to the lunatic.

"I see" said Lisel, turning toward the table she had vacated. Mentally she was slapping herself in the forehead. "Well I wouldn't want to make you late. I just need the volume on Korean traditional medicine." Lisel pulled back her barriers, between herself and Doyle. She sighed before she could stop herself.

Doyle smiled at her, he knew he didn't have to show up.
"So that's it? Just the one book and you're out of here?" he shook his head, "And so what if I'm late, it's not like I work there."

Doyle's smile caught her attention so Lisel missed most of his next, no doubt, flippant remark. But she did catch the "one book and you're out of here" remark. So he really was rearing to back to the Rosebud. No doubt to gaze on the fair Miss. Mason, the late widow.
Slamming all her forgotten barriers back into place, Lisel wiped the roses from her vision and tried to see Doyle for what he really was. An opponent in a game where if you lost the game, you lost everything.
"Well, I won't be long. Feel free to leave now, I can handle checking my own book out" she said coldly.

Doyle was rather shocked by her tone. He'd said he didn't have to go, feeling he made it clear he wanted to stay there with her....He kind of broke down inside, knowing later he'd need a good strong drink. On the outside he was the same, cool Doyle.
"Alright then...See you later!" and with that he was out the door, surprisingly slowly.

Ricky waited until he'd left to say anything. He'd been listening, and listening well.
"You completely missed half of what he said didn't you." he said. He was still looking at the pages of the Sherlock Holmes Novel he'd been reading, but his eyes weren't focused on the words, they were just staring at the pages.

Lisel blushed, having completely forgotten of another person within the library. Bitterness rising up inside her for so cutting and correct a response, Lisel turned the full force of her displeasure in the offending man. "I'm sorry sir, but I thin this conversation had nothing to do with you and I hope in the future you will find some small measure of civility by not eaves dropping on the conversations of other!" Punctuating her sentence with a steely glare, she turned gathered up the book she no longer wanted, and taking it over to the circulation desk, marked the loan card with altogether too much force. Gathering up the book, she turned back to the man and coldly remarked a good day before again leaving the library, in a far different mood than she had reentered.

Ricky was an eavesdropper, that's how he stayed alive in the business, and that was why he had not other job. He closed the book, put it away, and moved out of the shelves. He watched Lisel leave through the windows and once she was gone, he too departed; leaving the library vacant.
