Annabelle Lee Everly was a beautiful girl. She was ten, but if anyone asked, she'd say she was eleven. Her birthday was in two days and she was really excited.
Annie sat in her room on a late summer morning. It was August twenty eighth and the London air was beginning to cool. Sitting in her bed, the had a book in her hands, quietly reading, trying to finish the chapter before she went down to breakfast.
Suddenly, her reading was interrupted by a tap on the window. She turned to see a brown owl on her sill. In his mouth was a letter. Setting the book down she opened the window, the bird stepping in and giving her a stare. Annie handled the envelope in her hands, noticing on the front that it was addressed directly to her bedroom. Breaking the red wax seal, she opened the letter and began to read.
"Mom?!?! Mom!" she called, running down the stairs.

"Let's try...Willow with Unicorn tail," Olivader said to a young girl. She gave a bright smile, pointing the wand at a box. The box flew into the air and emptied it's contents. Olivander, startled, took the wand back and searched his shelves for another.
"AH, here! Try this...a seven inch Apple wood and Faerie Wing!" he said with a smile. The little brunette took the wand and pointed it at the door. The door opened gently. Olivander gave a sigh of relief.
"That's a very rare wand miss Isabelle...do take care of it..." he said. Izzy nodded, her glasses slipping down her nose a bit. Her mother, an almost identical appearanced witch, handed Mr. Olivander payment. They then left the shop to go but the young girl's books.

Gladys stood on a stool in Madam Malkin's Robes for all Occasions shop, Madam Malkin's assistant pinning the hem of her new Hogwarts robe into place. Gladys stood, fidgeting with the extra long sleeve, the edge unfinished.
Her mother sat off to the side, reading the Daily Prophet.
"Mother, may I have an extra robe for gardening if my first quarter grades are good?" Gladys asked her mother, hoping to replace the old, worn, and overly large frock she currently used when working with her plants.
"We will see, ask your father when he comes back from Gringotts." She said, her eyes never leaving the page.
Gladys smiled to herself, a maybe was far better than an absolute no.

"Your done" said the assistant, as she finished hemming all the seams to fit Gladys. Hopping down off the stool, she walked over to her mother. "Mother, may I go over to Eeylop's Owl Emporium? Just to look". She offered her mother a pleading look.
"Very well, I will wait in Flourish and Blott's." was all her mother said.
Squeaking out a "thank you mother" as she removed the robe she was still wearing, Gladys ran out the door, weaving in and out of the crowds in the street.

Izzy and her mother had been walking slowly, her mom chatting it up with every other witch on the street.
"Mother I just want to get to Flourish and Blott's!" Izzy complained. He mother waved her off. Heading for the store, she paused at Eyelops to look at the pretty owls.

Coming to a jerking stop in front of Eeylop's, Gladys stood gazing at the owls of every shape and size. Next to her stood another girl admiring the owls.
Gladys decided to break the ice. "Hi" she said, turning to the girl, "I'm Gladys".

Izzy turned and smiled back, "Hi! I'm Izzy!" she looked at the owls again, "Are you getting an owl?" she asked curiously.

"My parents promised me one, so I just want to start picking out my favorite. I don't know how anyone could choose just one." Gladys was glad she had someone to talk to who was interested in what she was. "What about you?"

Izzy looked back at the owls, "Well unless my mom buys be one as a birthday present I doubt I'll be getting an owl..." she looked at one particularly small barn owl with a 'for sale' sign around his neck.

"Oh" was all she could think of to say. Gladys felt bad that such a nice girl, who wanted something so much(this she could tell) and yet could not have it. She tried to distract her, saying "Where are you attending school?"

Izzy turned back and smiled brightly, "I'm starting school at Hogwarts this year! We're doing our shopping right now so I'm ready. What about you?" Izzy was a very bright girl who's happy mood was contagious and quick to be spurred. She was very interested if this girl would be in school with her....Maybe they could share a seat on the train....

"I'm headed to Hogwarts myself! Have you done all over your school material shopping? That what my parents and I are here for." Gladys was excited to have found someone who was going to Hogwarts too. Living in the country, she didn't have too many friends she could spend time with. "What house do you think you will get into?"

"I kinda left my mom because she was talking and I needed to go get my books..." Izzy admitted with an embarrassed smile, "Well as my mom was a Ravenclaw, and dad was a Hufflepuff, I could be in either. I'm hoping Ravenclaw though. What about you?"

"I will probably be a Hufflepuff, But I don't mind. Actually I really want to be one, even though no one famous is ever a Hufflepuff." Gladys shrugged. "I'm really not brave, or talented, or ambitious, so that leaves Hufflepuff. I just can't wait to take some herbology classes. What class interests you the most?"

"Classes? I never thought of Classes I wanted to take," Izzy stopped on this and pondered, "Anything fun I guess...." She finally replied with a shrug.

"Yeah, my parents want me to get the best education I can so I already know the first year classes. "Gladys also shrugged. "At home, I have my own herb garden so I just think I will like herbology in school."
Her gaze turned back to the owls. In a small cage, almost obscured by a rotund snow owl, sat this small screech owl. "That's it! I found you!"
Taking Izzy's hand, Gladys ran to the shop door and rushed inside. Dragging Izzy along she sucked in a deep breath before asking the shop owner, "How much for the screech owls?"
