Haruko's guitar, Naota's cat, Ninamori's squirt gun, Mamimi's cigarette ("Never knows best"), and the often-said line "swing the bat"... FLCL is not entirely random with the things that are included - the items and motifs in the series can and often do mean something.
What do you think each means?
(This is different than the threads discussing the meaning of FLCL and/or the show's themes - these are specific items)

Well, Naota's cat has a significance in where Haruko is from, and aho she is...Perhaps Cats are a means for communications among aliens of her kind, or perhaps that one cat(the fat one) is Haruko's superior.
As a lot of FLCL-even just the name-are sexual inuendos and such, they aid in the understanding of the "Coming of age" of Naota, Ninamori, and their friends. Such phrases, like "swing the bat" and "fooly Cooly" I believe refer to sexual acts, I've heard that "Furi Curi" is a nonsense word that infact insinuates a fondling motion (as seen by Naota's grandfather in the manga scene in episode 1) This is also supported by the fact that throughout that entire scene, they mention "Fondling her cupcakes? Fndling her yum-yums? Fooly Coolying!?!" and that sort of gibberish.
When the robots and stuff come out of Naota's head(teleported from other dementions/places in space using NO) it may be seen as another inuendo for coming of age. When Haruko pesters him about what's under the bandaid, it's like friends asking about what's growing in your pants, for lack of a better phrase.
I'm sorry If I couldn't answer all of your questions, but I hope I answered some. 3nodding
