Because they were terms created for yaoi or something. But I use them for not-gay-male couples all the time :3

Uke just means submissive. It's quite funny actually cause I do aikido and started doing that before I got into yaoi... then I got used to associating 'uke' with the bottom of a relationship. Thing is uke is the term used for the person in any martial arts who does the falling during training. So whenever my sensei says something concerning the uke I have to struggle to keep from laughing.
So yeah it technically has nothing to do with homo or hetrosexual relationships, it's just been adapted into yaoi and only now is begining to transcend that into a wider and truer meaning once more.
